Congratulations to the team on a great effort, a few thoughts:
a) we need a creative influence in the middle desperately, hope A Aquilani will bring it soon
b) that last minute goal against Lyon did us in,
c) well the life goes on, maybe we will start playing with first team choices for a change
d) N’gog, is going to be a great player soon
e) Kjaer may be an answer to our prayers for a great center back
f) we will be great soon, the youngsters are on the way, courage my friends

Only positives were ngog and nobody getting injured. Rafa was negative as always. A fully fit aquilani got 30 seconds of action in a game we had so much possession in. If debrecen were better than a 1st division team we would have probably lost. Why do we need 2 DCM against a team that fiorentina and lyon wiped the floor with, have a £1.5m transfer budget and are 7th in the hungarian league! They should have equalised in the dying minutes. We attacked so slowly it gave them all the time in the world to get men behind the ball. The damage was already done but this performance is typical of us under rafa we always give the other team a chance by being so defensive showing in the fact that even though we had all the possession they were comfortable enough to go 4-4-2! blaming late goals is stupid when debrecen managed to score as many as us in the whole tournament! Put the blame where it belongs on rafa and get him out!! Get Mancini in!!
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 2:17 am
See patrick berger has added his name to whelan, souness and jamie Redknapp saying enough is enough with rafa. Said as soon as Ronnie whelan braved the wrath of the ‘in rafa we trust’ other former players would start speaking out. Another example of what Redknapp was saying in rafa trying to pull the wool over fans eyes him focusing attention on 2 late goals. Not the horror show performances in every game. Especially don’t want any attention on the games when we can’t blame an injury crisis do we rafa!!

I think the time has come to play 3 at the back, because Johnson being out of position so often drags a centre half out of position, he plays more like a wingback anyway, so this would be my line up when every1 is fit…
Reina
Carra Skrtel Agger
Mascherano
Johnson Aquilani Aurelio
Gerrard
Torres Kuyt
I believe it is solid at the back, with width and an attacking side, what do u think

“David Ngog scored the only goal of the game as Liverpool edged past Debrecen but failed to qualify for the group stages.”
Shouldn’t it be “knockout stages”???
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 3:10 am
LoserFools are out! They look totally souless to be honest, this team, and the more I look at them the more they look like West Brom or Wigan, not Man Utd, ARSEnal or even Tottenham. I think the best remedy would be to tempt Alex Ferguson away from Man Utd, maybe spend the 30m on the transfer. It’ll do the trick.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 3:13 am
I’m surprised Ngog is still here, not training with the French national diving squard, I’m sure he’ll be a huge talent in the sport!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 3:14 am
oh well. heres hoping we get everton in the final.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 3:34 am
Could only manage 1 against debrecen. at the end of the day we dont deserve to be through to the next stage . we have played rubbish non exciting football. Kuyt has the touch of a rapist he definetly is not a right winger.

Wow liverpool in the UEFA cup, thats dissapointing. Even the win today was pretty rubbish. Lets hope the team can at least start performing in the league. And FFS, play aquilani!!! You cant get match fit if you dont play
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 5:39 am
Rafa has to go.
He just kills the spirit of football and destroys player’s careers and loves the most mediocre dross around ie Kuyt and Lucas
I personally think if he wants to go to spain, he should
Jed - November 25th, 2009 at 6:05 am
i hate to say i told ya’s so….mmm no i dont really
see boys i’m a realist, and a lot of you liverpool supporters live in a fantasy land….from day one even blind freddy could see that your squad didnt have the depth to compete for anything this year….7th in the league and out of the champions league,,,,i guess there is still the FA and europa cups to play for…. its funny how a lot of your are calling for Rafa’s head and i have said from the start, “get rid of rafa and you might win something”
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 6:52 am
Oh I’m sorry wasn’t this going to be your year? … again. Liverpool has been flattering to deceive for years. Hanging on to the only piece of credibiity you have which was one lucky win in the CL courtesey of an AC Milan choke. You’re shite. Your manager is shite and you’re where you belong now in the wafer cup. History? My word yes you are.

Liverpool truly are the laughing stock of the footballing world.
THE CHOSEN ONE - November 25th, 2009 at 7:43 am
I could watch the 2nd half . My car broke down in pub and had to drive it home.
Anyway its nice to know Ngog was rafas buy for 1.5 mil is now worth at least 8 mil and is building in confidence. And to think he scored only one goal in 18 appearances for his former club. Hes disciplined professional, very good at holding up the play, can shoot with both feet, has pace and is now even taking on players. His positional has been excellent. would be nice to have a few lessons on tackling lol
he reminds me of anelka was he was young at arsenal but just a bit slower but definately more determined. Said it before he doesnt let you down. if he continues his progress then we wont need to buy a striker for next year.
If we get Rud van only on a free. ngog could learn a few things of him about heading and that.
One of liverpools biggest problems is the lack of ability to kill of games. it never really mattered in previous years alot because of our good defence. We would be confident at one nil we wouldnt concede. but first half was good,
Ngog will be a star its up to himself now and boy is he hungry.
Ironical that we lose money on babel yet gain money on ngog but hey the proof is in the pudding.
anyway i hope my car starts this morning without a jump lead.
THE CHOSEN ONE - November 25th, 2009 at 7:47 am
oh and for the bell end who wrote about having 3 at the back. it wont work would make us even more defensive but as you didnt put your name i wont explain to you why.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 7:57 am
Wow that was a rubbish win.
What is Rafa doing?????? To holding midfielders in a must win game??? I agree with earlier post wrt Aqua, how can he get match fit if he’s only allowed to play 1 min. We need some creativity in the midfield. Did Kuyt do anything right last night?
There is no confidence in the team at the moment, when we scored in the 4th min I thought, finally the “ketchup bottle effect” is coming, 3-4 goals atleast and then……nothing.
nanaghlfc - November 25th, 2009 at 8:21 am
at least we’ve finally won a game. we just have to hope the players keep their heads up and not get demoralized cuz we need to turn the league around badly.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 8:47 am
Lets sack Rafa
Get rid of the 4 world class players
Get rid of the owners
Get rid of the debt
Use the kids and lets start a fresh
Lets have no expectation of winning the title or living off the past
And let the fans own the club
Because what we have now is doing us no good. there is to muh media tripe directed at liverpool.

Very upset

Just sack rafa and get someone who will try different things and different players to try stop the rot! He has done nothing to fix this saga so far!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 10:21 am
We have a shed load of bad luck this season but it happens, remember Alex Ferguson won nothing till 1990 and look where he is now also remember that only 4 years ago Man Uth failed failed to qualify for the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League after losing to Benfica. That season they had injuries to key players such as Gabriel Heinze, Alan Smith, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. Sounds familiar. They went on that year to win the league cup, we can still finish in the top 4, have a chance to win the europa cup and win the FA cup this season. Chin up chaps

Chosen one seeing as though you missed the 2nd half… Loads of possession, going nowhere attacks so pedestrian that despite having all the possession we create no clear cut opportunities and debrecen actually feel that confident they go to 2 up front…aquilani still twiddles his thumbs even though lucas has done nothing and mascherano is stopping everything. Substitutions time benayoun coming on will it be lucas, kuyt, aurelio is my guess…no its ngog!! Mccallister is now pulling his nonexistent hair out. 10 minutes of debrecen growing more confident and putting together quality attacks surely aquilani time? No its…dossena for aurelio! Again debrecen attack and actually carve out the most clear cut opportunity of the game which their sub should have buried! Oh and aquilani is used as a time wasting sub for 30 seconds against a terrible team. Rafa always lets the other team into it with his supreme negativity no matter how poor they are!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 11:15 am
who will u get better than benitez it would cost you a shed load of money, which wood cum out of his successors january funds, its like the wannabe gooners calling 4 wengers head
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Well said retryboy. who would have thought we would bring a striker off in a game were if fioretina had of lost or drawn goal difference would have been a major factor yet we sat back on a one goal lead. When i was 4 and first started playing football one of the things you learn is attack is the best form of defence??? has that alll been forgotten at liverpool football club ???
We actually play and look like a mid table team .. everton will be a massive challenge on the w.e the way we are playing atm… you and i have botth said it,
blood in the youth and lets bring nemeth back for Fsake

THE CHOSEN ONE - November 25th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Retryboy we really need to learn how to kill of games aquilani or not. rafas job is to win the game as long as he wins no probs but we really need to not let teams in .
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 11:41 am
we need to start blooding the youths eg Nemeth,Kelly,Ayala,Ecclestone,Pacheo, get rid of kuyt bad touch, bad passing ,bad crossing.ect along with a long list of others,
its time for rafa to go with bad man managment, poor buys and sales and poor team selection and subs during games(look at last nights games)
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 11:42 am
Agree with hartlfc this is the equivalent of a 1st division team we were playing! They ended up scoring as many goals in the tournament as us! You can’t expect to win games 1-0 no matter how in control you look it only takes a deflection. We should have rolled them over like lyon and fiorentina did with more than one creative player in the team from the start we would have done! Rafa will learn nothing lucas/kuyt will start against Everton probably benayoun for aurelio. Making 2 creative players, 1 striker. The very least we could have had aquilani match fit out of this game and a confidence boosting demolition job. Makes it easier for him to keep playing 2 DCM’s if he can keep using aquilani’s match fitness as an excuse.
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 11:46 am
People that talk about not the liverpool way sacking managers should look at the way rafa plays the game compare it to king Kenny and see how far removed from the liverpool way we are now. Rafa out! Mancini in! Before its too late!!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 11:58 am
“David Ngog scored the only goal of the game as Liverpool edged past Debrecen but failed to qualify for the group stages.”
I think that’s meant to read “failed to qualify for the knockout stages”.
Angry Ranting Drunk. - November 25th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
I agree with most of the comments on here. If you score after 4 mins against a team like debrecen, you assume that the game will easily be put to bed by half time eg 2-3 nil. But then for some reason, the policy this season seems to be “once we score, stop attacking”.
Compare that to last year (eg vs Aston villa at anfield, real madrid to name a few) and i cant understand the reason for the change in tactics. It almost seems that because of the defences bad form, the licence to attack from last year has been revoked.
Inviting teams to attack you is the worst way to ease the pressure on the defence. the Man city game is a fresh example, dominated till the goal, then sat back and were quickly a goal behind.
It really fecks me off when i see this happen and im pretty sure im not the only one.
And i know i said this before but aquilani cant get match fit by playing 90sec, and its hard to justify spending that much on him using “match fitness” as an excuse when theres no signs of him being given a chance to gain match fitness
FFS Rafa sort your shit out
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
to all liverpool fans who claim they love the club and claim to keep faith in rafa, ur loosers, ur decieving urselves, goto celtics.
cuz if anyone really loves this club, would know rafa just got to go.
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Babel-15 minutes on the right this season one assist kuyt-18.5 hours on the right one assist this sort of blind favouritism is ruining our club, careers, team spirit. Anybody going on about kuyt’s work rate or defensive ability… He is playing in an attacking position!!
Donavan Ried - November 25th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Still to read above post
Winning the game was only part of the job that had to be done …..The fact that even if Fioretina had lost we had to be them by 3 goals or more to go through in the Final match meant if we beat Debrecen by 4 goals or more, even a 2-1 win over Fioretina would be good enough. A fact that was lost on Rafa and the team …… A sterile performace by Liverpool, not helped by a bad team selection ….
How long do we put up with this? …..
For those how still trust in Rafa, even they must addmit at the very least someone needs to sit down and tell him that this is simple not good enough
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
On the up side we could make a bid for Rudolf before the price goes up too much.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Shawn
so doesn’t look like rafas gonna go , what does it take to make rafa leave , i wouldnt mind if all this was happening and we were atleast playing attacking football but we dont even get that we are seriously one of the most boring teams to watch theres nothing special take torres out and what do we have attacking.
the team last night was poor if were gonna go out of the cl lets go out in style with pride get 4 or 5 goals. and whats the point of bringing aquilani on for a few seconds thats not gonna make him match fit , waste of 20 million first keane now this , when rafa pays that amount of money we except the player to play simple as that
rafa out please ffs
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
agrees with retro boy and i am a big fan of lucas but last night he was totally unnnecesary didnt loook like he had aclue what he was doing there. mascherano was immense as a def midfielder
aquilani now thinks he is getting a game for xmas
we were altogether crap, clinging on against the worst ever champions league team , an utter disgrace.
i wake up to see rafa s job is safe, can t believe it
didnt expect he would be sacked
i hope everton beat us 6-0, maybe then he will be fired

Jaysis, but this is the year it’s been eh? We actually manage to win a game for the first time in a month and it turns out to be completely hollow and over a terribly average team that we were unable to twat. Is crashing out of the CL “rock bottom”? This has always been Rafa’s place to shine, but what now? We’re desperate to finish Top 4, but we need our players back and we need to make a splash in January. I am praying, everyday that January sees us as buyers and not sellers. YNWA
Dirty Sanchez - November 25th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Having been known to curse every time Lucas started or was subbed in during the last couple of seasons I must admit that he has improved this season. Improved enough that I would not want to see him sold but he’s still no where good enough to be a starting 11 unless when Mascherano is suspended.
Didn’t know what to think of N’Gog at first but he’s clearly improving every time he steps onto the pitch. Between him and Nemeth do we really need to purchase a 20-30M front man to fill in for Torres? I fail to see the need for us to desperately needing a loan deal on Pav or RVR. N’Gog has scored or assisted in almost every game he’s played!
Why not focus on the areas where we’ve had problems. Creative midfield and defense. VDV on loan please in January, maybe play Aquilani?? In defense we have Kelly and Ayala looking very promising – add Kjaer from Palermo and we should be set.

Ryan – i am perfectly happy for us to be a selling club if it means we sell more players than we gain..
Id be perfectly happy for us to sell 4 players including
1.babel
2.dossena
3.itjande
4.voronin (voronin as prioriy)
5.Spearing
6.El zhar
seriously..what do these guys actually do? apart from babel, i dont think any have made much of a contribution…..(apart from the 2 goals from dossena last season) but between them they have around 26 million pounds worth of lost money?
We should be looking at at least another 5-10m from the owners…giving us a minimum of 31 million.
Yes Ngog and Pacheco are improving but are they capable of standing in as torres replacements always? are they completely good enough yet? answer – no.
we need QUALITY in depth….
even if we had 25 million….(which if u look above is easily possible) we could say…
Elia? 15 million would probs lure him.
lennon? 20 million? might get him for that…thats 2 clas wingers there…we defo need a right winger cos kuyt is pants on the wing. One of those would do fine.
and we also imo need a striker…
if we were to take the cheaper option in Elia and still had 10 million or so left we could invest that in a bid for VDV or an all out striker…by that i do not mean waste 5million on Van nistleroy …hes pony.
anyhow….Rafa needs to go
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Nemeth and pacheco are in the Robbie fowler mould. Nemeth partnering torres now would be awesome, pacheco still young but definitely ready to be in the squad. Lots of times when we have injuries 4-4-2 would give us a stronger line up but rafa is too blinkered by his system which just gets more and more defensive. Babel on the right has created the same in 15mins this season than kuyt has in 18.5 hours so play him there!! Ngog can do the lone striker but he needs 2 of benayoun/aquilani/gerrard behind him creating. Only torres can have 1 half chance a game and bury it we can’t expect that of ngog and shouldn’t really expect it of torres its just what he delivers. So having torres/ngog options for lone striker and nemeth/pacheco options to partner would be more than happy with. As long as the balance in midfield changes adding pace and creativity in aquilani, babel and losing the negligible contributions of kuyt and lucas. Don’t see the point in spending £15m on someone to sit on the bench when torres is fit.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
Dirty Sanchez:
Hear, hear!
Ryan0:
Let’s count our blessings after Budapest.
1. Good teams (confident) can win, even when playing ugly. No apologies needed.
2. No new injuries. Torres spared,
3. N’gog pllaying consistently well, with a smile on his face, not like “Ryan me first Babel”. We don’t need any short term loan players to sub for Torres.
4. Benny only playing a few minutes. Stevie G. rounding into match fitness .Alberto A. ready for action. V d Vart still availabe for loan.
5. Agger not concussed, he played 90 minutes. Team playing hard throughout. 6. January only 5 weeks away, hopefully there will be takers for Dossena, Voronin, and whoever our brother fans would like to send away. Our scouts still have a chance to uncover some unpolished diamonds.
7. There is still time to organize bake, backyard sales to get money for Kjaer, Cissoko.
8. The owners are reviewing their exit strategy.

Reds Lewis:
I have no problem with your list of players to sell. I think however, the 6 “underperformers” you suggested for culling, would not bring anywhere close to 26 M pounds. Let’s be more realistic in that regard.
Mark G.
Dirty Sanchez - November 25th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Red Lewis:
Can’t say that I disagree with your choice of 6 players but as Mark G. said earlier we would only stand to gain very little cash by selling them.
Babel – 8M (if we’re lucky)
Dossena – 3M
Itandje – Free
Voronin – 2M
Spearing – 1M
El Zhar – 2M
Total – 15M
Still that money would pay for a young talented winger which we are in dire need of.
Now we’re at it why don’t we buy David Bentley! hahaha
Dirty Sanchez - November 25th, 2009 at 7:06 pm

evening/afternoon all
Hey i know we are out of the champions league but lets take positives out of negative shall we?
We are a team with a rich history and everyone is jealous because of it now if we win The Europa league we would be the FIRST! team ever to win it which means we would again be creating history
secondly we won a game finally in which N’gog i thought played rather well.
And thirdly we get the chance to destroy Everton in europe or even in the final which would be even better
now that would be nice lol
so yes i’m pised off like eveyrone else as our champions league journey is over this season however its not the end of the world we can still win the Europa league, crush everton and go on a winning streak……..hopefully
Retryboy - November 25th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Only see this europa league as a distraction to the real business of premier league. Against the weaker teams should definitely use the youngsters.

sam i dont see the europa league as apositive i see it as a way for rtafa to buy time if we win it, look we won trophies, the fa cup and the europa cup although i sincerely doubt on current performances we will win either

...samlfc.... - November 25th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
kermit a trophy is a trophy!! do you want to see us without nothing at the end of the year again!? i much prefer the champions league but the Europa cup can still be some sort of achievement as we have won nothing since 2006
so it is a positive but if you want to carry on being upset that we’re out of the champions league then fine, i’m trying to move on from it and try and find something to happy about.
and you say we won’t win the Fa cup nor the Europa league……..well we are still in it and have just as much of a chance as anyone else i know our squad is weak but so will other teams….i’m just trying to stay positive after this disapointment
I don’t want an argument with you i’m just trying to say that although the Europa league isn’t as good as the champions league
we should still try our hardest to win as like Gerrard said “The best possible way to overcome the champions league exit is to win the Europa cup” (not word for word though)
kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
and you seriously think we cna beat the likes of valancia villarela or bayern munich playing like that

kermit - November 25th, 2009 at 9:41 pm

on the good news hull are thumping everton and the mancs are getting beaten, and porto look the better team against chelsea

David Bentley wants to be David Beckham and has the hairstyle of Ronaldo. I’d rather have Babel start every game than Bentley in our squad.

i agree a cup is a cup. lets salvage what we can from this season if possible. Ye im gonna critize rafa when he gets it wrong as ive always done. support the team as ive always done.
the way i see it, using chemistry as an example, every substance has their boiling point. Some substance are very sublime or volatile while other may take a high temperature to boil like metal. Because we all have different boiling points it doesnt mean we are not of substance.
i suppose its more to do with endurance and different properties or characteristics of individuals when analysis data as well as expectations and emotions. if i boil everyone will know but im only melting at the moment hoping rafa turns things around. My judgement will be based on how we play from now till end of season taking into consideration our poor performance at the begining.+
