The Slovakian international Marek Hamsik’s parents might not be able to spell “Mark” very well, but that hasn’t stopped their offspring becoming a £25m target for Manchester United, according to the Telegraph. Also on Sir Alex Ferguson’s shopping list are Simon Kjaer of Palermo and Gary Cahill of Bolton. (Guardian)
None of the names linked by this source to a move to Old Trafford are spectacular but they are all potentially very wise additions to Man United’s already glittering squad and all three could well be set for a jump up from decent performers to becoming household names and perhaps a move to join Sir Alex’s squad will be just the ticket for the trio.
Ferguson obviously has some cash to splash and after seeing his side fall five points off table topping Chelsea and could well feel his squad could do with strengthening with an eye to bridging that gap and these three players could all be very useful signings.
Gary Cahill has become a very consistent defender and even at lowly Bolton the centre back has managed to do enough to get noticed by England boss Fabio Capello and with Rio Ferdinand getting on in years and having some form issues perhaps he could be a wise player to take on with an eye to the future. Palermo’s Danish international Kjaer has been chased by a great many members of the footballing elite but will not come cheap and the cost wanted by the Serie A side, £12m by some accounts, could be a stumbling block.
Marek Hamsik has been in fine form for Napoli this season and the attacking midfielder would be a good creative addition and could well be the type of signing to finally spell an end to Nani’s very average stay at the club.

1.7 billion in debt, wheres the money coming from?
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
LOL! Where do you get the 1.7 billion figure from?

Interesting sums there…..glazers bought Man United for £800 million, they owed £690 million, as £110million was funded through sales of shares in other investments. In 2006, interest payments were £69 million a year, but last year this was refinanced and they are only paying £41million a year now. Considering Man Utd made £59.6 million profit in 2007, i think they can afford the interest payments and then some. Besides, the Glazers have various other investments from which profits are made. Malcolm Glazer himself is worth £1.3 billion and his sons combined a further £1 billion, therefore finance is not an issue. The profit statement for 2009 shall be interesting, given that the £80 million for Ronaldo was not even touched and it was a cash payment!

Calvo…
With the recent news of Vidic´s unrest and the form of Rio , getting Kjaer or Cahill would be a sound investment.
As for Hamsik that is a player I have long said Utd should be looking at seriously getting. However it should not stop there!
Added with Hamsik should be Hazard and or Ozil to add the creative spark.
And Hamsik can take over from Scholes.
But in January Fergie needs to look at signing Dzeko or Villa!!!
Example-
Out-Nani-just not worked out
In-Hazard
Out-Scholes
In-Hamsik
Out-Park-All running no end product
In-Ozil/Afeeley
Out-Vidic-should it be that he decides to leave
In-Kjaer/Cahill
Out-Neville
Out-Giggs
Out-Carrick
In-Rodwell
It may seem strange to suggest all of this considering that Utd are only 5pts behind and players are still to find their form but with 2 or 3 additions like Hamsik etc it would not only bode well for the remainder of the season but also the future.

anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
manu should consider getting cannovaro to go in central defence as vidic may leave and ferdinand is not performing well
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
manchester united may find that buying Dzeko and the new Lyon star goalkeeper will strengthen their squad and may win more titles

man utd needs:
Firepower:
- either natural goalscorer who is quick e.g. villa
or natural goalscorer who is big, can hold up ball well and is strong in the air e.g Dzeko
Midfielder:
- intelligent player who is complete midfielder and scores goals e.g Hamsik
Defence:
- Decent centre back, who is big, intelligent, quick, strong in the air and can score goals from set pieces e.g. Bruno Alves
GK:
- someone who can replace van der sar. reliable, with presence, agile and clever e.g. Fiorillo

Blimey, what do toy people go about? Get rid of him, get rid of them… I bet you were saying exactly the same thing about Fletcher, O’Shea, Ronaldo (one-trick pony, right?)… And the most shocking comment is the one calling for Scholes, Giggs, Neville, Park and Carrick to be sold! What’s wrong with you, mate???
I say, leave it to SAF, in SAF we trust

‘what are you talikng about out Carrick drugs are bad for you friend!’ – Have heard abour punctuation? Because there’s no way i can understand what you’re on about.
isaac hunt - November 25th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
why would it be an inteligent raid? not saying they are bad players but how do you know that they would be great signings? dumbass. oh and you dont have a glittering squad. people say liverpool are a two man team well it is exactly the same with united. giggs and fletcher. people will say rooney is their best striker but he is so overated and have you seen his record against top 4 teams it is abismal.
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
I think punctuation is the least of your problems friend im sure your favourite sport is rugby……..clearly you no nothing about soccer or your probably a newby in terms of supporting UNITED you should actually watch the games for your opinion to be valid oohh and then you make a suggestion that Rodwell should be bought you clearly on something that is affecting your vision and judgement
I maybe we should sell rooney and by back Saha………..clown!!!
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
isaac, agree with you on a first and second point, 43mil seems a bit too much for this package and yes, Liverpool is two man squad, which you have only Benitez to blame for. As for the rest, well… While i agree United are not as star player packed as they used to be, taking them down to Giggs and Fletcher is just a joke. United have every position covered pretty well. The only worry for me is a bit lightweght midfield (in a sense of age and personel, not numbers) but with Hargreaves coming back it’s gonna look totally different. They were called one man team last year, and look where they are. Second in the league, already in knock-out of CL. And all that playing well below usual level.
As for Rooney being overrated… and his record against top 4 teams… He’s much more than just a striker for United and while not scoring in every game against Liverpool he has got few PL medals to show for his overall work. Doesn’t matter who scores, does it?

What the hell is soccer????
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
manc basterds ……….You wish you had Torres …..hahahah
anonymous - November 25th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
All the Spanish language news sources here say David Silva to Barca is already a done deal, which will piss off Robinho no end. If United can get £35M or so for Nemanja or even get Esteban Cambiasso or Mohammadou Diarra thrown in as part of a package that should still pay for Kjaer and Cahill, I say why not? Rio is never going to return to his pomp, though. So spending big on Rodwell, who would make for a very mobile centre back, isn’t necessarily a bad idea. And there’ll still be lots of dosh left over for Dominic Adiyah, who we should buy in January because his value will explode after the World Cup.
baggins09 - November 25th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
can i just point out kjaer is apparently a life long liverpool fan can’t remember where i read it but i doudt utd would be his first choice so bacon face might want to look at some other options

Isaac mate you must wake up at night and realise you have been dreaming that Liverpool had a squad as good as ours. You have some front questioning the quality of our squad son when you are out of Europe, not gonna be in Europe next year, you’re manager is a joke and you have that Monster form the film Goonies running up and down the wing for you. Worst Liverpool Squad for 30 years pal. So I would keep it shut if i were you you plonker.

If the 80m from Ron really is there to spend:
Firstly offload Nani for as much as possible – I don’t rate him for much more than about 6 mil but for some strange reason few big clubs are apparently interested. One of the most frustrating players I have seen at United.
Buffon (31) and Chiellini (25) from Juventus for 30m
De Rossi (26) £20m
Villa (27) £40m
These players are all winners and would provide a second spine to what we already have. Why take a gamble on unproven ‘potential’ of the sort being put about at the moment when you could pretty much build a guaranteed new era of United with the money from Ronaldo who should never have been sold if the money wasn’t going to be invested in players who will fill the void. I don’t know if Buffon has any intention of moving but I honestly think these would be achievable targets. I wouldn’t imagine many players would want to face this team:
Buffon
Rafael Vidic Chiellini Evra
Valencia De Rossi Giggs(IMO) Obertan
Rooney Villa
Possible subs: Kuszczak, Foster, Brown, Ferdinand, Evans, Fabio, Scholes, Anderson, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Tosic, Berbatov, Owen, Macheda

Calvo…
Sorry if what ive suggested has caused an uproar, however the fact that at the ages the likes of Giggs etc are shows that either there is no trust in the likes of Nani or Tosic and that I dont want Utd to be over reliant on them either.
Players like Giggs and Scholes etc are LEGENDS that is obvious and not just for Utd but British football and the Prem but are Utd to rely on them nec=xt season and the season after…
As for Carrick I have long been an admirer of his but after being there as long as he has he has yet to really hit a form that suggest he can dominate a game.
His passing ability is fantastic and he is a very good player but what Utd need especially when the likes of Scholes arent playing and when faced against the likes of other top teams is someone in the middle of the park that hurt teams time and again.
I never said that the likes of Giggs were to be sold just out the 1st team regular select but still to be retained in some capacity at Utd.
So that when the new players come in they can see these LEGENDS and realise what it takes to succeed at Utd.
Now should Hargreaves get back from injury and gather some form who would be his partner? not another deep playing midfielder unless the wingers started scoring so then another midfielder would be required and someone who can hit the back of the net…eg Hamsik.
Otherwise there is too much pressure on the forwards and our play would therefore become predictable.
And as for the comments about what may have been thought of regarding Ronaldo-never had that thought as he was someone that you could see growing into what he has become,Fletcher-Just needed to beef up which comes with age and he was always a willing player so that thought didnt either as for O’Shea…sorry as willing a servant as he is sometimes and more often than not I prefer Wes at right back or Rafael as O;Shea sometimes plays as if he’s been out on the sauce the night before!
But like ive said already Utd have alot of quality at their diposal both 1st team reserve and academy so a few minor changes is all thats needed especially from an attacking midfielder point of view and a creative point aswell.
