The in-form West Ham forward has been linked with other top Premier League clubs, most recently Liverpool.
However, there has been speculation and most recently in the Daily Mail, Manchester United are looking at the Carlton Cole as we verge closer to the opening of the transfer window.
With the interest of the two most successful clubs in football it would be hard for West Ham to turn down an offer, especially with their well publicised financial problems.
Zola has come out expressing the importance of Carlton Cole and is adamant his star player will be staying at upton park
He said: ‘Carlton is an important player for this team, not only because he scores goals but also for his presence.
‘I know Carlton wants to stay and is happy here. The club has no intention of selling him or any of our important players.
‘He plays for us and we’re very happy with him.
‘We’re going to make sure we can help him keep on scoring.’
Although Zola, one of the nicest men in football pledges the prominence of Cole, with the World Cup around the corner, this is interest Cole can not afford to ignore. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Every so often a transfer rumour comes along that doesn’t seem to have any possibility whatsoever of becoming a reality, this is just such a rumour.
Sir Alex Ferguson has the following striking options, Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen plus the likes of Daniel Wellbeck to call upon. Quite how Carlton Cole would fit into such an equation I really do not know. The West Ham man has had a great past 18 months and the fact he is being linked with clubs in the top echelons of the Premier League is a testament on how far he has come as a striker but the chances of him moving to Old Trafford are just miniscule.
