FIFA World Cup 2010 Qualifying Play Off soccer match, Ireland vs France - First Round

Sevilla’s winger Diego Perotti could be part of the answer, with Arsenal ready to test his £20m buyout clause. Toulouse striker André-Pierre Gignac is also in Wenger’s sights, as is Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh. Sounds like a spree. (Guardian)

There are some who believe that this season could be a crucial one for Arsene Wenger. After four seasons without silverware the Arsenal boss apparently needs to capture a significant piece of silverware to keep his job. Such speculation seems absurd given all that the Frenchman has achieved at the club but given the masses of players linked with a move to the Emirates perhaps the Gunners boss is looking to bring in some new blood to help in his pursuit of success.

Marouane Chamakh has been strongly linked with a move to the north London club and will be available for nothing come the summer but Arsene may want to make certain of snapping up the Moroccan in January by offering Bordeaux a small nominal fee. Andre-Pierre Gignac is a player that greatly impresses me. The big bulky 23 year old has been a big success since his move from Lorient to Toulouse and last season finished as the top scorer in Ligue 1 by a mile and went on to earn an international call up and hasn’t looked back since.

Both strikers would be useful additions at the north London club but perhaps Gignac would suit the Premier League far better than Chamakh and in my view would be a very smart purchase.

21 year old Argentine international left winger Perotti is a relatively new player on the Wenger radar but one who has great potential but perhaps Arsenal have enough options in his position to negate a need to dig deep for the Sevilla player.
