FIFA expects England to jump through hoops to finally land World Cup bid.

FIFA’s ludicrous leader has come out in the past couple of days and said that, if England are to succeed with their bid to host the 2018 World Cup, then they need to exploit the “Beckham-brand”.

Blatter is quoted as saying “They have to use him for everything, forever. If they don’t, they’re not very intelligent.”

Now, I may be mistaken, but I thought that the World Cup was about football and fair play. I definitely didn’t think it was a popularity contest. If it was a popularity contest, how the hell did Germany win their bid to host the tournament. I mean, who likes the Germans besides Austria and parts of Switzerland?

Surely the most pertinent issues are that of feasibilty and legacy. Now don’t get me wrong, I’d love the World Cup to be hosted by England, but to what end? Do we really have to jump through any metaphorical hoops that Sepp Blatter and Jack Warner set for us?

I know that earlier this week Warner has come out and said that this is England’s time to host the World Cup. However, I can’t help but take his words with a pinch of salt. He is, after all, Blatter’s lackie.

However, when some of the best teams in the world, descend upon the cities of England to battle it out; when England breeze through the group stage and make it to the semi final only to get knocked out by Germany or Argentina on penalties…all this ass kissing will be long forgotten.
