Football - Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City Barclays Premier League

Tottenham are poised to clinch the £7m transfer of Brazil under-20 captain Sandro according to reports.

A story in today’s Mirror suggests Harry Redknapp will tie up a deal to bring the midfielder to White Hart Lane once the Brazilian season finishes this weekend.

Sandro is highly rated and Tottenham’s scouts have been impressed with the combative midfielder’s performances.

Redknapp was quoted earlier this year as saying: “We’ve been looking at Sandro. He’s just breaking into the Brazilian team from the Under-21s. He can play. He’s a modern-day midfield player.”

The 20-year-old, who currently plays for Internacional, is due to fly to London later this month to sign a deal according to the report. (Independent)

This long running saga appears to be coming to a positive conclusion in the coming days with Harry Redknapp said to be very close to signing the Brazilian defensive midfielder he has been reportedly chasing for some time. The 20 year old Internacional almost joined the north London side in the summer but the deal collapsed due to the amount the players club was demanding, but now the two outfits have an arrangement in place that will see Tottenham have first refusal on their up and coming players.

Sandro is a combative player and apparently just the type of player Redknapp was after and he will be hoping the Brazilian international will be able to give him more options in the centre of the pitch, something the White Hart Lane boss was keen on doing in the January transfer window.
