Arsene Wenger is reportedly after young Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic.
With injuries adding up at the Emirates, the Arsenal boss has confirmed that he have to become active when the transfer window opens at the start of 2010. “We will be in the market in January,” said the Frenchman.
Bojan was expected to be the next great superstar at the Nou Camp after a glittering career in their youth set-up, but has struggled to break into the side after the arrival of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The key drawback would be his unavailability for the Champions League, although Wenger recently accepted that it would be difficult to find a top striker in europe who doesn’t play in the European Cup.
“Finding someone world class, who hasn’t played in the Champions League and who is available is not easy,” said Wenger.
The Daily Star reports that Wenger is interested in making an offer at around the £8 million mark, although Barca are keen on a short-term loan deal. (Give Me Football)
Chelsea are set to compete with Arsenal for the signature of £18m-rated Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli according to reports.
The 19-year-old has been hugely impressive since breaking onto the scene under Jose Mourinho and has attracted the interest of the two English clubs.
Arsenal have made no secret of their desire to bring in a new striker in January following the injury to Robin van Persie. There are thought to be a number of possible targets with Balotelli chief among them. (Independent)
The Belgian side Standard Liège have given Manchester United and Arsenal “the green light” to start a bidding war for £15m-rated midfielder Steven Defour. (Guardian)
Whilst there is no doubt that each of these trio are archetypal Wenger signings and tick all the right boxes it does seem highly unlikely all three would be winging their way to the Emirates, not least because all three have a great many admirers among the European footballing elite.
Arsene appears keen to beef up his attack and is clearly a manager who likes to take youthful talents and mould them to suit his style and ethos and with that in mind a move for Steven Defour is perhaps the most likely as the Standard Liege man is almost certain to leave his Belgian employers in the summer and could well do a great job in the Arsenal midfielder, however clearly this doesn’t resolve the attacking worries the Gunners boss appears to have in the short term.
With that in mind a move for Bojan could be a wise one but there are some suggestions the pint sized Barca man could struggle in the hustle and bustle of the Premier League and there are many who feel the north London club needs to get more big burly players in their side to complement the more creative flair players, perhaps this is where Mario Balotelli comes in? The Inter Milan teenager has once again fallen out with Jose Mourinho and appears a San Siro exit is on the cards but the Serie A club is asking for a big fee for the Italian Under 21 international and that could indeed scare off all interested parties as could Mario’s perceived attitude problems.

All three are top quality players, Balotelli could be a great signing and could work well alongside RVP. Defour is a little too much like many other options we have, especially with Rosicky having signed a new contract and I have never been that much of a Bojan fan.

These are not the players Arsenal need. They do not play much for their teams. Edin of Wolfsberg will have an immediate impact and is much more powerful than the two mentioned

defenders are much important too, ‘cos wenger is lacking in this aspect greatly! we need far more experienced back players to add to our squad.

NO Balotelli, we just got rid of one cancer, why get another?
Why poison young impressionable players with a kid who has never been told no by his family and handlers, who doesnt want/like to practice and who would put his selfish needs ahead of the team?
Because he has talent? So do dozens of other youngsters and many of those never break through. He has a million dollar body and a two bit brain. Pass.
Chamakh is another drama queen who has have some kind of beef for the past 4-5 years with this team. Its always something else with him. And in his case, the talent isnt even remotely close to the reputation.
Piere Gignac the told scorer in France is who Wenger should go for (unless you listen to Arshavin who says they are too short for set pieces and get Zigic).
He is a bull, a physical presence, he has heart and stamina and a good attitude.
I love Bojan and think he could be top player in the right team but as much as it pains me, not Arsenal. There are too many small players of his type (I think he will have a better career than most who are there now) already and youd have to get rid of the Eduardo’s which are paler copies of Bojan. (of course, remember when Arshavin was ‘too small and weak’ to play in the EPL?)
Gignac has the tool set, the right attitude and the physical strenght the team badly needs.
And after the Ade drama of the past two years, the team does NOT need me/me/me players to distract them.
As for defence, Borussia Dortmund centre-half Neven Subotic is 2m tall about, 20 yrs old and making a nice name for himself in Germany and he is dangerous in the opposition box at set-pieces where he has score quite a few times. I read something about a 20million tag on him though.
Which brings me back to Bojan. He is worth 8million and Balotelli is worth 18?
Why?
For is underwhelming play for the national u-21 (which is flopping badly in qualif) where Casiraghi openly questioned his attitude? For his non-play with his club where his work ethic and behavior are always questioned and now by elder teammates as well?
A few flashes of brilliance here and there and the tentalizing ‘promising’ label should not be enough to justify this price range. For 20million I want a proven first teamer not a ‘could be’. 4-5 million is a reclamation project, 20 million is a starters value.

All very exciting but then again not really when you consider there is more chance of Birmingham City spending 40 million than Arsenal because Arsenal simply have not got that sort of money to spend and everyone knows it.

He seems like Italys Adebayor so no we don’t want him. Don’t care who we get provided they work hard and don’t disrupt the dressing room. Wouldn’t mind Carlton Cole provided he works hard

Gignac wud be a good signing if wenger gets him… we also need to start lookin for a good goalkeeper… no matter how good we are in our offence we suck defensively all thanx to almunia… we gotta get rid of him n get a good goalkeeper for starters…
But i see no transfers happening in t jan transfer window since wenger being the economist he is wont spend cash and t guys we need currently come with a huge price tag…

Kirkic is not an option so is Bolitoli. The Italian is a lazy striker with attitude. We need a more pro huslte strong taller striker. cole from West Ham is ten times a better fit and much needed force right now!

Arsenal is hurting on set pieces. I don’t remember the last time they defended better on set pieces or capitalized on one. Wenger’s relectance on spending a lil more than his usual is beyond me. After all it’s business, u need to spend some to get more. If he continues with his sound theoretical arguments without a realistic result…I can see Tottnham and Man City go past Arsenal when all is said and done. They are gonna spend on January window and that will only help there chances. As for Arsenal with all the injuries and and there non-fit return, without any new quality signing will spell no more big four finishing. No champion League which is a loss of Millions of Dollars. Less money to buy player and the begining of the end for Arsenal. Mark my words!

For fuck sake just bring back King Henry back to the Emirates. He is the best ready made worldclass striker for Arsenal. No one is better to wear Arsenal colour as a striker at the moment.

I don’t know why fans bother debating what players Wenger should or would buy.
It’s very simple, if the player is well known and/or costs more than 10 mil, Wenger won’t buy him. Simple.

It would be wise for Wenger to spend money on a non-cup tied striker. Moving on in the champions league is worth way too much money to the club not too.
