Arsenal are expected to launch a January bid for West Ham striker Carlton Cole.
The England international striker has been in great form for the Hammers this season, and with Arsene Wenger’s side suffering an injury crisis in the attacking positions, the Frenchman has admitted that he will have to strengthen in the transfer window.
Rumours surfaced last month that the Gunners would target Carlton Cole, and now the Daily Mirror reports that the 26-year-old striker is the number one target at the Emirates.
West Ham are desperate to keep hold of their prized asset, although the financial situation at Upton Park means that a bid in the region of £15 million might have to be accepted.
Gianfranco Zola has seen his side struggle in recent weeks, and it is no coincidence that Cole finds himself on the sidelines with a knee injury. He is expected to return before the end of the month however.
The powerful frontman has the added appeal of not being cup-tied for the Champions League, a huge bonus for Wenger on the quest for some major silverware in North London. Cole would also provide some much needed physical presence to a frontline full of style. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Now this is a little hard to believe to say the least. There is no doubt that Carlton Cole has improved immeasurably in the past 18 months but he is still in my view a while away from being considered a top four player. The former Chelsea man has battled back from an indifferent start to his career and has rightfully found himself in the England reckoning.
The West Ham man is also not exactly the style of player that Arsene Wenger goes for, the hustle and bustle determined customer will not really fit in well at the Emirates. There is no doubt that the Gunners boss may well look to bring in another striker given the long term injury to Robin Van Persie but I don’t for one second see that striker being Carlton Cole.

I think Cole could be good for Arsenal! It’s the one type of player we do not have at the club and need against teams like Chel$ki! I think £15mill, plus Vela & Wilshere on loan til the rest of the season would be a great deal for everyone! Also we can raise £7mill from the sell of Senderos, so really we will only be paying £8mill for a future worldclass striker! The experience for Vela and especially Wilshere would be priceless!

Either Carlton Cole or Huntelaar has to be the 2 options for Wenger. Both would fit into the team with Huntelaar close with RVP and Cole close with Gibbs, plus Wenger would like to work with Cole to help his game!

Dunno how true this rumour is… If its gonna happen then good… we;ll hav t numbers in t strikin department but still im pretty apprerhensive as to how effective cole wud be upfront… he hasn’t exactly set t footballin world on fire n definitely aint worth payin 15 million but wenger wud ensure tat he pays lesser by insertin loan deals n stuff…
But wats botherin me t most is tat wenger’s not bothered about buyin ny1… he’s saying tat he’ll think abt buyin a striker only in jan “IF” bendtner wont be back n if t strike force continues to face t same shortage then… Everythin now depends on t liverpool game… a heavy defeat ther wud not only wash away watever little title ambitions we have hasd so far but also wud put wenger into a lot of pressure to buy in t jan transfer market just to ward off any threats to t champs league spot from t likes of man city n villa (i dont consider t spuds as a threat to t top 4)

Cole would definitely be a good buy for Arsenal. With all the finesse that Arsenal have in spades, they lack the brute force needed to force their way through the physically harder teams. Both Chelsea and Stoke are the most recent examples of this.
Having said this, I want him at LFC. So sod off Arsenal!
