Now I am all for bringing in a centre back to beef up the numbers at the back but I would prefer a ‘good’ player as opposed to a Sunderland and West Ham cast-off, please Harry don’t do it! Talking of West Ham, this made me laugh…
Spurs are set to rival Liverpool for the signature of West Ham’s Carlton Cole, according to reports this morning.
It has been suggested that Benitez is looking to add another top striker to his team to lessen the burden put on Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.
However, Harry Redknapp is looking to cash in on Roman Pavlyuchenko in the January transfer window in order to try and make funds available for a big money move for the Hammers striker.
Carlton Cole has been in sensational form for West Ham netting seven times already in the Premier League, and it is thought that Redknapp wants to sign Cole to help Spurs break into the top four.
If Cole was to move to White Hart Lane in January he would face intense competition from Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane for a starting role in attack.
However, West Ham have vowed to do all they can to keep hold of Cole despite the club needing money to ease their financial troubles. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Now I am not one to knock someone just for playing for West Ham and I actually quite like Carlton Cole, he gives his all and has improved from the bumbling forward who couldn’t hit a whales arse with a banjo, but why the hell would we try to sign him? We have four top quality international forwards, all of whom are better than the Hammers man, so I see absolutely no reason why we would make a move for the England international. Even if we lost Roman Pavlyuchenko and somehow decided to also loan out Robbie Keane to Celtic, clearly not likely, I would still wonder just how Cole would fit in at White Hart Lane. Also the Upton Park side want around £20m for the former Chelsea man, so lets face it no one will pay that, not even Harry!
Thought I would end today’s round up with some pics of Jermain Defoe’s reported conquests purely because I thought my fellow Tottenham fans would like to see just how our hotshot striker can score both on and off the pitch with alarming regularity.
