Rafa Benítez and his No2 Sammy Lee are whispering conspiratorially, as they plot a raid on Goodison Park which, all going well, will result in them sneaking up on Louis Saha, throwing a blanket over his head, bundling him into the back of a car, speeding back across Stanley Park to Anfield and playing him up front alongside Fernando Torres. (Guardian)
This is an odd rumour to say the least, and one can only guess as to how this became a potential piece of speculation but could it really happen? 31 year old Louis Saha is a lethal finisher and a prolific striker wherever he has been employed but I don’t see him being a realistic target for Rafa and it seems highly unlikely that Everton would even consider allowing him to leave to join arch rivals Liverpool.
The former Man United and Fulham man has managed an incredible ten Premier League goals this term despite the Toffees poor start to the season and after four years at Old Trafford playing second fiddle to a host of big names the Frenchman appears to be enjoying his time at Goodison Park.
Given the reported financial constraints affecting the Anfield outfit the £7m rated forward would at least be a viable option from a financial standpoint but there are questions about whether Saha would work well alongside Fernando Torres and indeed whether the Paris born goal machine is willing to having to potentially bench warm again as Benitez is not a manager who tends to favour a two pronged attack and the Spaniard may well only see the Everton man as cover.

what is the point in this story???? the player would obviously come but do you think everton would sell him to us???
anonymous - December 14th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
DEFINITELY A GOOD PLAYER BUT
NO CHANCE RAFA BUYING HIM……
HOPEFUL IF MASCH GOES HE GIFTS US CASH +BOJAN KRKIC
PLUS RAFA USES THE CASH TO BUY A DECENT RIGHT WINGER
AND GIVES BABEL A LOT MORE CHANCES ……..

To Isaac Hunt
I guess the point is to discuss rumours that are circulating, no?
Perhaps Everton would have to take any money we offered? They are pretty badly off and maybe if we gave them a player and some cash they would take it?
anonymous - December 14th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Isaac Hunt – Why would the player obviously come to you lot – a team on the way down with a waste of space of a manager.
When Stevie G La and the Ladyboy are sold in the summer to prevent the club going into administration we can all laugh at the dissillusioned reds who still think their team have some sort of divine right to be successfull. How many of you will make the trip over from Norway for the home games then ?
In Rafa We Trust -one of the worst Liverpool managers of all time.
anonymous - December 14th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
louis wouldn’t go anyway, why bother, he’s the main striker here. he’s got compatriots here and your team and manager and fans are all cunts!
anonymous - December 14th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
The player wouldnt deffinately come because he said he owes it to David Moyes to prove himself because he is the only man who would take a chance on him. He nos that moving to Liverpool would mean alot of pressure on him to perform right away. Everton could have also sold him to Besiktas for 9m in the summer and the manager rejected that so why 7m?!

STRANGE ISN’T IT SOMETIMES BAD THINGS DO HAPPEN IN
SERIES WITH NO HOPES OF THINGS GOING RIGHT EVER……
WHAT ELSE COULD YOU SAY WHEN YOUR TEAM’S LOSING
AS CONSISTENTLY AS THE SUN RISES AND YOU REALISE
AFTER A MONTH THAT MAYBE ,THE NEXT DOOR GIRL WHO
LIVED THE LAST 16 YEARS AS FRIEND AND GETS ENGAGED
TO SOME PSYCHO DOC LAST WEEK ,MAYBE SHE TOO
LIKED YOU.
STRANGE ISN’T IT ,SUDDENLY SHE STARTS LOOKING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL, THE ONE MADE FOR YOU ……
BUT NOW WHEN SHE IS GONE ,THERE IS NOTHING I CAN
DO APART FROM WEEPING FOR A WHOLE DAY …..
AND WRITING THIS SILLY POEM
FOR THOSE WHO LOST SOMEONE ,JUST BCOZ THEY DIDN’T
REALISED THAT SHE MAY BE MORE THAN A FRIEND
LIFETIME TREAT
She looked like a flower and her words were sweet
Hairs curled and her smile a visual greet
But still when I first saw her
She didn’t looked a life timetreat.
We met in the ravens
and we met under the trees
We saw the sunset and the falling leaves
We ran through the fields paddy and wheat
Still i was sure she wasn’t a lifetime treat.
We talked about god and we talked about life.
We talked about us being alive
We talk about love and about war
But I never dared to go so far.
To talk about us and only us
For I feared a mighty loss.
For she was a beauty anyone would resist to retreat
And that night I prayed oh! god she shouldnot be my lifetime treat
And time flew again in its sweet melody
Not giving a chance for comeback or remedy
And someone came in her life, which I always feared would
Nothing could be done, nothing that we could.
We seprated apart from we to I
And suddenly I started missing the glaze of her eye
We parted and parted and parted with pain
Never ever to meet her again
For she went with him to a distant land
Neither I could reach nor my thoughts can.
And finally it came to me that maybe she too loved me
For she called me toy and I called her pea.
I reconciled myself thinking what was she ?
A girl very easy to meet
But this time the reconcilation could not complete.
for she was not near and I knew it .
Even today I regret it
That I didn’t looked into her eye and said it .
“Baby you are my lifetime treat .”

I loved your peom, especially the line that goes:
“Louis Saha is a load of shit,
and Everton fans are a bunch of tits”
Really captures the emotion and vigour of the zeitgeist. Mmm, quite.
anonymous - December 14th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
you red shite are talking as if you could afford him. your worse off than us
anonymous - December 14th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Three reasons why this could not happen.
1. £7m is too much as he is 31 years old, and could only be offered 1 to 2 year deal
2. Everton may need cash, but without Saha they would be in bottom 3, therefore he is worth around £30m to Everton
3. Saha would only move for bigger pay days, and Liverpool wont offer high wages to a player who is at the end of his career.

The story just hasn’t been written up properly the reason saha is being mentioned is because of his length of contract remaining he is free to sign a precontract agreement in january. Whatever way saha is a good player but is old and injury prone. Why can’t rafa sell the players that don’t get anywhere near to a game 7 out to bring 2 quality in… OUT-itandje, bouzanis, degen, dossena, kyrgiakos, plessis, voronin
Only bring in 15m but you would save 15m a year in wages 30m for 2 players and their wages quality not quantity and 100% not saha!
anonymous - December 14th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
i think torres will go in the january window that why liverpool are after saha it sum it all up like liverpool is not a big club in the top four any more. what is that song go like now {those were the days my friend i thought that it never end } u could come and share the ground with us because efc is better off than lfc

Saha no chance, but changing the subject slightly, why did we have 4 defenders on the bench yesterday?????????? No Babel, Voronin, Pacheco, Riera, El Zhar. No attacking threat. Also this is probably the first and last time I’ll say it, but i was quite impressed with Lucas yesterday, I think he only gave the ball away once and was also quite threatening when he went forward. Masch had a great game, but Torres and Gerrard still look unfit, the problem being who have we got to put in their place. We are really struggling and i just don’t see and end to the slump.
Anyone else agree?

retry boy i have to agree mate . its quality needed now not quantity. i personaly would think that moyes will try and sort sahas contract out . aspecially when hes there main goal threat ov late. dont get me wrong we DO need another striker but a WORLD CLASS one. and unfortunatly thats not saha. retryboy has hit the nail on the head clear the garbage from our front lawn. and add two quality garden features. nuff said you get my point . if masc is gonna go. then so be it . but replace him accordingly. dont forget alonso 4 aquillani. they still made 10mill. and i wouldent ov spent that much. iwould ov payed 12 for barry. like the original idea was. without the barry caffufle . alonso would still be there. so why back out 4 a few mill . if ya gonna spend 20 on an injured player. this to me is a non starter from the off. people keep talking abouy villa. do you think he would come at the mo . i think not. but if rafa is so respected in spain and wiyh el nino here he should at least push for it. also they keep linking van der vart. yeah he will come to england but not liverpool. think about it its not as atractive or cosmopoliton enuff for most top stars . so you have to impress on the pitch. to try and make the big boys wanna play 4 us. also cant wranggle over 2mill like the barry thing . cos the other big clubs wont. sell the shit buy big its our only chance . and also make sure there match fit this time . thers no room for error in the transfer window. YNWA
Retryboy - December 14th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Kenwyne jones, nemeth recall and paul konchesky i would be happy with. We have the problem that none of our left backs are strong defensively. Aurelio is always injured and is better going forward, good dead ball delivery isn’t enough. Why Warnock and riise were let go either would walk into the team now. Its like Finnan was let go because we signed degen… Great move that one!

TO anonymous – December 14th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
Can’t you write in English? It’s taken me an hour to understand what you have written and I’m still not sure I’ve got it. Something about Owen and Heskey being good together I think……..
Shakespeare must be turning in his grave……
Anyway, back to the point in question:
I can’t see buying Saha solves any problems. The team seem to have given up on the season. Where’s the fight all gone?
In Shanks’s day every competition was important. Even the League Cup meant something. It wasn’t an excuse to put your reserves out to get a taste of the grass! Without the Champions League or the title to play for, the team just seem lost. From heroes to zeros in the space of 4 months. It’s soul destroying to witness.
Topredman - December 14th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
To get confidence you need to win things. If it means putting your best team out to win the League Cup, you do it. There might not be any money in it but football is about winning things. There isn’t enough importance put on the FA Cup, the League Cup or, in our case this year, the UEFA Cup. Winning something might be a solution. Buying the odd available player to plug a hole I don’t feel is a solution.
As you can tell, I don’t hold stock with all these new fancy dan named competitions like europa league, milk cup, coca cola cup or vimto cup. It belittles the importance of the competition and players need to win things. We have some good players lacking in confidence and in some cases ability but I’m not going there. In my view we save the money and start getting some confidence back in the squad. Next year I want see a full strength team in the League Cup against Wengers primary school team and win it because winning means something.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings for the day.
...samlfc.... - December 14th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Topredman – December 14th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Totally agree with you mate!! spot on
Winning the Europa league is better than not winning anything!! also The Fa cup would be a great cup to win….again.
4th spot will be just as important though so lets not just focus on getting trophies.
Retryboy - December 14th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
4th place is the most important thing by far. Thing is topredman only the title winners used to get into the european cup and you used to have the cup winners cup for the winners of the fa cup while the winners of the league cup got a uefa cup spot. Whether you like it or not things have changed. The prize for both domestic cups is the uefa cup most times the winners have already qualified for the champions league so its only worth putting your best team out if you aren’t going to qualify through the league. The competitions have been devalued the fa cup still has the romance but the monetary rewards the champions league brings are miles ahead. Its where the best players want to be. Cup competitions are always hit and miss we are much better off concentrating on the league, play the youngsters in the cups they are better than most of our squad players and much higher motivated than players who believe they should be playing in the champions league and squad players who know they are only playing because they aren’t good enough for the first team. Also we can’t compete financially we need to develop our youngsters to make the difference.

Reds Lewis - December 15th, 2009 at 12:29 am
complete waste of 7m. Let him stay at everton.
Granted he is a good player, but hes more injury prone than a badger living next to the M6, and he aint world-class….at least he aint anymore.
Be better to put 7m towards a better and younger player who has his best years ahead of him and plenty time to learn….
clear the shit out and demand 10-15m off the americans. That is how to bring in world-class.
Basically there are no need for these articles because we know what we need to do in the January transfer window…. and that is……
Sell :
Dossena (4m)
Voronin (2m)
Degen (1m)
Plessis (2m)
El zhar (2m)
Itjande (1m)
Martin (2m)
14 million there!!
I wouldnt say theres much point in selling Kyrgiakos, nobody would buy him for what we paid for him and we might aswell just let him see out his contract and stand in every now and then (allbeit at the expense of Ayala).
These are not world-class players. I doubt they ever will be and theyre probably, combined, on the wages of 2 world-class players.
With 14 million from player sales, and a minimum input of 10 million from the owners weve got 24 million.
So……… 24 million
Now where do we need to beef up? wings first of all….
a left winger in Elia ? hes quality but not proven..maybe 12-13m would take him from hamburg.
and that would leave us with what…11 million to bid for VDV?
Alternatively we could try and sell babel too for a realistic amount (8-10m) and that would take our total to at least 32 million….approx 34 million….we could put in a cheeky bid for aguero with that. Hes a liverpool supporter and that might just tip him over the edge.
Or we could bid for lennon ….say 20 million, and keep babel (obvs.) and then invest the 4million elsewhere or, as said before sell babel and buy elia and lennon?
There is driftwood at liverpool that is holding the places of potentialy world class players…

aquillani has to start v wigan . 20mill to warm a bench dont cut it. for me if rafa leaves him out again its because he hasent got the faith in him. we all said he wouldent pull up trees straight away . but the boy needs game time. so he can try an establish himself in the team . cos is he not our long term attacking option in the middle ov the park. the lucas massc thing to defensive and has been warn out trying to make it work. rafaz making us the laughing stock ov epl. other big clubs are begging for him to stay at anfield . cos as long as he keeps picking these mega defensive teams with shit tactics . they no they have a chance.people are no longer scared to come to anfield. and thats unbeleaveable. Kermit, very interesting line-up, I see some positives, but also fear we would be vulnerable in the second half with it, stevie, aqui and dossena may not be fit to last 90 minutes in midfield, how would you sub for them, if neccessary? Also has Johnson played in MField before, and how did he fare there? I like Insua, but Aurelio was great on Sunday in the first have, with Benny covering ,then of course he got tired and things went downhill. We also need Aurelio freekicks, Stevie isn’t taking many at this point, maybe protecting himself….. Any news on Masch’ and Aqui’ fitness?
Scouse Magic - December 15th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
After the second half performance against Arsenal, I’d rest Kuyt, Beni, Carra, Agger, Masch.
GK Reina
LB Dossena
RB Darby
CB Skrtel
CB Kyriagkos
DM Lucas
CM Aquilaini
AM Gerrard
LW Pacheco
RW El Zhar
ST Torres
Blood some youngsters, so we dont have too spend millions on the squad. Pacheco looked good for the mins he was on against Fiorentina, so give him a game. Have Kelly, Spearing on the bench with experience to back it up.
redrob - December 15th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
scouse magic. i like your though but rafa has experience that you put youngster in to rest players, can go horribly wrong. start with your strongest team and make the changes when you are well infront. too much is at stake to take the game for granted.

Retryboy - December 15th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
I would leave the back four alone. Think its our strongest defence and they need continuity now we have been forced into changing the back four around all season. Time to pick your best and let it settle in my opinion. I do like the kelly/johnson or darby/johnson(styles actually work better) if babel isn’t available for RM would do it if we weren’t so shaky at the back. The CB’s haven’t played with aurelio much so would let it settle.

its a good point we do need auralio for free kicks, and all set pieces. gerro took a corner from the right, which went out, before it came in. a left footer would have been okay. also i like the thought of steve g sitting outside the box to hammer the ball in from a knock down, like we have seen In the past. it would help clear players out of the box to allow space. also i would like to see agger venture forward more. go all out attack. attack as a team, def as a team.

Excellent!
No news on this story for a few days so it’s obviously a rumour spread by his agent. Phew.
I see Ruud Van Nosebag has been linked again. Rumour has it, he wanted the same remuneration as he got at O.T. – two tons of hay a week, his own stable to change in and 20 acres of grazing land in Cheshire. Wonder if the medical would include checking for foot and mouth!

We might aswell get Kieron Dyer aswell!!
whats the point in buying a striker who is also going to be in the medical room along with Torres.
we need fresh and relatively young strikers in between the age of 23-28 as they would have some-quite alot of experience.
a left winger would be helpful aswell.

retryboy.
i agree with what you say about our deffense. look at our team last year. we had one pf the best defensive records in the league, because of two reasons. firstly, we had the same players in the back four most of the time, rafa changed his midfield around but rarely the def.
secondly alonso didnot put in the big takles, but his reading of the game was second to none, when it comes to braking up plays.
having johnson and auralio on either side add a certain ballance to the team they both like raiding the wings.which when our winger seem to drift inside often is an important asspect of our game.
i do like insua at left back, but auralio possitioning is better, and we do need him in the side for set pieces
