Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart – linked with moves to Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur since the summer – is set to be the subject of a swoop from Arsene Wenger.
According to the News of the World, the former Hamburg and Ajax star is desperate to leave Spain and is ready to revive his career in the Premier League.
Van der Vaart has found his chances limited at the Bernabeu following the acquisition of Brazilian midfielder Kaka.
And after falling out of favour with Los Galacticos coach Manuel Pellegrini, the 26-year-old has started on just three occasions in La Liga this season.
The Dutchman is eager to gain regular first-team action before representing his country in next summer’s World Cup, and is reportedly willing to accept a pay-cut in order to earn a move to North London.
Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool elevated Arsenal back into third place in the league, but Wenger is keen to bolster his squad during the January transfer window following a long-term injury to forward Robin van Persie.
And with lingering doubts over the fitness of attacking twosome Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott, Van der Vaart is thought to be high on the Frenchman’s wish-list as the Gunners look to maintain their title hopes. (Four Four Two)
£14m rated Rafael Van der Vaart is a wanted man everywhere is seems except Real Madrid. Arsenal are said to be very keen on signing the Dutch playmaker who can’t seem to persuade Manuel Pellegrini to give him a break and as such has to leave the club in order to rescue a stuttering career.
Arsenal do of course have a great many creative midfielders in their squad but I am sure they could find room for the 26 year old if they wish and the former Ajax and Hamburg man has reportedly made noises about wanting to make the move to the Premier League.
The free scoring midfielder can play in a number of positions and will surely be a player Arsenal boss Wenger will be keen to add to a squad looking to finally clinch some significant silverware this season. With injuries decimating the Emirates squad a move to strengthen the side is needed but perhaps Arsene will opt to add an out and out striker rather than another attacking midfielder.

Never going to happen. 14million for a 26 year old that can’t break Real Madrid’s 1st team lineup? Don’t need other people’s left overs. Arsenal have plenty of midfielders, a surplus really. Wenger needs more quality at centre-back and a DM to replace/cover for Song and Denilson.

Yep, agree. Dont need him, too many players like him at the moment and although he is a good player he is not what we need. Keeper and a solid unit of a midfielder with some height.

arsenal & liverpool are facing the same kind crisis currently: growing amount of “DEADWOOD” in the squad… Only difference is t quantity of deadwood… liverpool hav more players who r (to put it very mildly) dispensable….
For arsenal its very apparent that almunia is t 1st choice goalkeeper cuz he doesnt hav ny competition in t GK department…Very frankly speakin he wudnt hav made it to t reserves of man utd or chelsea… but he’s t no1 @ arsenal…. He’s definitely not world class, n absolutely crap, we’ll not win jackshit wit an idiot like him as our 1st choice keeper…
Secondly we r extremely light on our strike force department, wenger’s over using arshavin n wen he doesnt work we dont hav an answer to scoring goals… N wit bendtner, dudu n rvp injured things r certainly not lookin good…
Desperate times call for desperate measures…. Wenger needs to make 3 signings in the jan transfer window:
1 Striker – Either Gignac, or Dzeko or Carlton Cole
1 Good solid CDM as a cover for Song (Who’ll be away for the african nations cup)
1 Goal Keeper – Akinfeev or Boruc or Lloris or ny1 better than almunia
But im dead sure wenger wont signs ny1 in JAN… Wit such a fragile position tat we are in he’s still worried abt saving money, value for money, winter economics etc…
He’ll use kids in t FA cup n so we’ll get walloped by either man city or chelsea ther… (What a shame)…
CL… Dont even think abt it… We’ll need a miracle to get past teams like Barca… n the prem… well do I hav t say nything??? Our current position explains everything…
So im sure Arsenal will not win nything this season…
T only thing we arsenal fans can do is to pray tat guys like fabregas, arshavin n RVP stay wit arsenal after we end up trophyless this season again….

Why Not ? He’s a battler, and posseses some quality. Just because he didnt make it alrite at Real, Doesnt mean he’s lost it. We also need a Towering Defender and Midfielder. And maybe one striker, E.g Chamakh, Van N, or J Huntelar.

My feeling is if Wenger brings in V.de Vaart then it might mean Cesc is off in the summer and if the deal is £30mill+Yaya then i think it is a still! These 2 guys are in their prime at 26yrs and by the time their 4 year contract is over the likes of Gibbs/Eastmond/Ramsey/Fran/Wilshere will all be in their prime!!! Makes perfect sense to me! Midfield of Yaya/Song/Diaby/Denilson/Ramsey/Wilshere is a very, very strong midfield!

Van de Vaart is a perfect replacement for Cesc, if V. de Vaart comes in i think it spells bye bye Cesc!!!

VDV is a gud player and replacable for rosicky this guy is too injury prone and i doubt whether he can play futbol again no need for cesc to bye bye the gunners
he is the leader and VDV can play alongside him nasri arshavin song etc but a stricker is most needed in the gunners rank strikers like cole gignac agbonlahor and i gues krkic is quite similar to eduardo he isnt the type the north londoners need

how many of these type of players does wenger want! he needs an out & out goalscorer as well as a decent keeper! he also needs a leftback whos not as error prone as clichy & also cb & defensive midfielder to stop them being bullied by powerful teams like stoke bolton or chelsea

anonymous - December 20th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
We need a left back to replace Clichy, r u mad! we do need a keeper i agree there and i think VDV would be a good squad man.

I thing Vaart will be much helpful; he can give enough coverage in the mid field however the key task of wenger should be in having a talented striker like Tores, E’to etc
