Old foes Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger are set to fight it out for the signature of Belgian wunderkind Eden Hazard.
The forward, who has been dubbed the next ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’, plays his club football for Ligue 1 side Lille.
According to Sport.co.uk, Hazard could move to the Premier League as soon as Janaury as both Manchester United and Arsenal managers battle for the youngster.
It has also been reported that World and European champions Barcelona are interested as well as Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
The current Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year is in fine form scoring against Le Mans at the weekend and assisting in two goals.
According to The Daily Mail, the 18-year-old was quoted as in September as favoring a move to Arsenal or Real Madrid after Zinedine Zidane’s positive comments about the youngster.
“Real Madrid and Arsenal are the clubs I dreamed of joining as a child,” he told The Daily Mail.
“If I joined Inter or Barcelona and could play football there then that would be very good, but Real and Arsenal are really great and play at a very high technical level. Zidane is my idol – the greatest footballer of his generation. If someone like that praises you, it is heart-warming.
“But I must repeat that it is too early to move. In one or two years I will maybe make the next step. Lille play European football, which is also a good opportunity for me. Getting minutes on the field is what counts from my perspective right now. I have a three-year contract and feel that I have a lot to learn in Lille. The situation could only change if a club offers £26million and Lille were unable to refuse, but for now I ask all the clubs interested to respect my decision.” (ESPN)
Arsene Wenger’s ongoing pursuit of Belgian international Eden Hazard has been prolonged and persistent and it would take a brave man to bet against the Arsenal boss sealing a deal to bring the 18 year old Lille attacking midfielder to the Emirates but before any deal can be done the Ligue 1 side may want to rethink their asking price because regardless of just how much potential the intelligent playmaker possesses he is not currently worth the rather inflated £26m valuation the French club has placed on its prized asset.
The Gunners obviously have more than enough in the way of young talent but when a talent such as Eden comes along it is hard to not want to pursue it. Dubbed the next “Cristiano Ronaldo” it is perhaps unsurprising that Manchester United have also registered their interest in Hazard and this could spark a bidding war that Lille would no doubt greatly enjoy.
Arsenal may be the best place for the youngster knowing that Wenger places a lot of trust in his starlets and therefore the player may find himself progressing more rapidly at the Emirates than at Old Trafford. The teenager has already shown great maturity during his time at Lille and has great pace and a good footballing brain and is definitely one for the future.

He wants time on the pitch, he won’t get that anywhere else, thats why he would like to stay at lille for the length on his contract, he sounds like a very sensible guy, good luck to him, if he came to England they would play him out of position(like Lucas) and then moan and say he can’t play, Duh!!!!!

Hazard is awesome. I live in France and i played with him for Tubize, a Belgian side, and we are still in contact. I honestly think he could be great, but he has to stay at lille for at least 2 more seasons, until there is no doubt that he can get a regular first 11 spot in a big side like Arsenal or Madrid. He wouldn’t work at Barca, its not his style. He told me a couple of weeks ago if he has to leave in Jan, then he wants to play for arsenal., personally, i hope he makes it big. Arsenal should focus more on a dedicated striker to back up VP, not a winger. Get say Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon. Also check out Hazard’s goal against genoa in Europa league, huge solo effort. Arsenal need a new keeper, thats for sure. Get Lloris from Lyon, or Mandanda from MArseille, or Neuer from Schalke, or Ochoa. All young, all gifted. Let Eden HAzard be for at least 2 more seasons, then nab him.

Don’t like all this “new ronaldo” business its just easier for journalists than actually describing a players attributes and style. Also grabs attention for a player that not a lot of english fans have heard of but at the same time puts stupid amounts of pressure on young players and the weight of expectation from fans is raised too high. I know that the writer doesn’t pick the title on here so not aimed at christian bailey its the press that are irresponsible in constantly doing it.

n u think these clubs r stupid enough to sell their star players to us without a fight???
Only teams like chelsea n man city who have tat kind of money hav t right to dream so big dude…
Get real…Arsenal wont be signing 3-4 stars in 1transfer window period… even if t funds r available…
We may hav lost players like flamini to Milan easily but remember it was on free transfer n flamini snubbed arsenal’s offers n went there…

why bother gong abroad when the answer is right under our noses in North London – we should buy both keane and pavluychenko from Tottenham – they’re going on the cheap now and will work perfectly with a fit RVP or as alternatives for strike possibilities too
