Player Convinces Referee to Not Send Off Opponent: What a Refreshing Change!
by Mad Dog and Glory on December 28th, 2009 3 commentsNow this is one of those footballing moments you just wish were more commonplace but are clearly an oasis of rarity in a sea of poor sportsmanship. Auxerre striker Valter Birsa was felled by Marseille man Bakari Kone, an offence the referee decided was worthy of a red card only to be told by the victim of the accidental challenge that he had indeed got the decision wrong. The referee then duly appeared to apologize and did indeed rescind the decision and all was well with the world. The gentlemanly actions of the Slovenian frontman are even more incredible when you consider the two French sides are arch rivals gunning for a Champions League spot. Thanks to the excellent Dirty Tackle for bringing this to our attention.

not often in football you find decent people playing, players who try and get others booked should be booked themselves. Its tantamount to saying rather you die than me, in other words they are cowards.
