Busy times ahead for Harry.
TOTTENHAM are poised to make a £12 million January swoop for Manchester City’s Micah Richards.
England defender Richards’ place in the City team under Roberto Mancini could be under threat this month, with the new manager set to reshape his team with big-money moves for several players.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has been an admirer of Richards for some time and is ready to make a bid for a player whose career seems to have stalled after a meteoric start. (Express)
Now I am a fan of Micah Richards and am surprised that he is not first choice at Eastlands but don’t see Manchester City selling one of their players to a direct rival, at least not until the season is over. Given that the England man can play at full back and centre half he could be a handy buy for anyone but I just don’t see any mileage in this one.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has ruled out a January move for Matthew Upson and insists he is not looking to sell striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Russia international Pavlyuchenko has made no secret of his desire to leave White Hart Lane after finding himself fourth in the pecking order behind Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane.
White Hart Lane boss Redknapp still rates the £13.8million signing from Spartak Moscow as an important member of his squad, but concedes he could listen to offers for his services.
Redknapp said: “If he wants to leave and someone comes in and pays the money for him that he’s worth, then we’d have to look at it.
“But he’s not one that I’m crazy to shift out of here, he’s a good player, he’s a talented footballer.
“I had a chat with him a couple of weeks ago and he said he wanted to move.
“Somebody has to come and make an offer which the club accepts, it has to be a good enough offer for us to even look at it otherwise there is no chance of him leaving.”
Spurs have also been linked with a transfer window swoop for England international Upson, with West Ham facing a battle to keep their key men.
But the former Hammers boss has brushed aside suggestions he could be set to raid his former club and has no plans to do any significant business.
Redknapp insisted: “There is no truth whatsoever in that.
“He (Upson) is a terrific player, but it’s not fair, we keep getting linked with players and we’re really not looking to do anything in the window. I’d be very surprised if we do anything.
“He is a good player, but I don’t need another central defender, I’ve already got good centre-halves at the club.” (Sky Sports)
I feel sorry for Roman Pavlyuchenko but it does seem likely his White Hart Lane career is set to end and the Tottenham bench warmer does deserve a quality move because I think all Spurs fans, me included, know that the Russian international is a top notch forward who just happens to find himself in a queue behind some top performers. With any luck we can recoup the fee we paid for the Spartak Moscow man.
Its good to see Harry distancing himself from a move for Matthew Upson but at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a slight chance we would make a move for the Hammers man after all the east London club needs the cash and they only have a few big names they can cash in on. Do we need another centre back? Yes probably, and I would prefer Micah if I could choose between the two.
So we’ve got Peterborough in a few hours and hopefully we can ease past the Championship side but it is worth remembering the remarkable comeback the Posh performed last week coming from four goals down to grab a point at home to Cardiff. Come On You Spurs.
