Manchester United are set to rival Arsenal for the signature of Porto striker Hulk.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to strengthen his attacking options and more physical presence to his forward line as United target a fourth successive Premier League title.
Despite the 23-year-old having a release clause in his contract for no less than 100m euros it is thought that a realistic offer in the region of £20 million would be enough to secure the Brazilian’s services.
“The big clubs in England have been in contact,” said the player’s agent Teodoro Fonseca.
“They have asked for details about his contract situation but any decision about his future rests mainly with the directors of Porto.
“I am calm about the situation and so is the player because he has an excellent future. I think we could be discussing a move in April or May.”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also thought to be interested in signing Hulk, whose real name is Givanildo Vieira de Souza, with key striker Robin van Persie set to miss most of the season. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
I like the look of Hulk and when I have seen him in action he has appeared to be the type of hustle and bustle forward who could do a good job in the Premier League. With the Emirates looking for a potential striking addition to the Gunners squad a move for the Porto man could be a wise one, however it appears Manchester United are also taking an interest in the Brazilian.
The 23 year old has impressed since his move from Japan to Portugal to such an extent that he has managed to get himself into the national team picture and could be an dark horse’s bet for a place in the Brazil squad at the summer’s World Cup.
Given that Arsenal are the top scorers in the Premier League there could be a good argument that Wenger doesn’t necessarily need to sign a striker but some may feel that an over dependence on goals from the midfield could backfire and Wenger has repeatedly made noises about making a January signing, could Hulk be that right buy, yes he could but not at that price.

This must be the most stupid rumor ive ever heard…
I Almost choked wen i read 21 Million out ther…
No Chance on earth tat wenger wud shell out 21 million… Besides Hulk’s cup tied… He’d think 10,000 times before spending this much money even if he had to shell it out for villa or messi… so 4get signing Hulk…
I’d be glad if Wenger signs nybody this transfer window…
cuz by t looks of it arsenal look t least active in t transfer window… We’r gonna sorely miss song… dunno y t prof hasn’t made t right kinda noises yet…
Hope we can sail through this tough period smoothly wit song unavailable….

Wenger will never sign Hulk for gbp21million! Just does not make any sense! and with wenger it makes even less sense. Hulk is not available until the end of the season. Chamakk may join Arsenal in June for free if we do not sign anybody in January, we already have a physical presence in Bendtner and our team seem to like the 4-3-3 alot, which means Van Persie when fit will always be first choice and be accommodated.
And what is his technical ability? we need a physical player that can fight but we also WANT a technical player that is comfortable on the ball.
So do u sign a player for 20mil quid and he becomes just a squad player when everybody is fit? Rubbish

Never gonna happen! Wenger _might_ consider the player, but not for more than 6-10 mil. As for Songs replacement, there’s a touted 21 year old that plays for Panathinaikos by the name of Simao (Simao Mate Junior). He would provide a little metal in the middle and competitiveness for that important defensive role, hopefully pushing Denilson, Diaby, and Songs (Who has been a beast) quality up or out. He would probably cost some quid though.

Damn it!! He’s Affrican too(Simao). Never mind mind my comment. Sorry, I gotta scout better. Any Ideas on replacement for Song?

Mr.neutral you certainly are NOT Mr.Neural….terrible ideas, terrible article…Wenger won’t buy a player who is not only Cup-tied but untried in a difficult league (the Portugese league is almost at the bottom of european competitions) and way too costly. For that money he could find 2-3 players of rough talent and relatively unknowns who he can hone into stars or he could bring in another Arshavin-like wunderkind who would strengthen the Gunners defense or midfield even more than Arshavin did. Stay home and knit sweaters Mr.neutered!

I’m suprised there hasn’t been more discussion about signing Gignac. Signing him from Tolouse shouldn’t be a problem and he isnt cup tied. Also everyone forgets that Porto facing Arsenal in the champions league next. Why on earth would they let a striker leave and join Arsenal. Yes, Hulk wouldn’t be able to directly hurt them, but he would provide rest for the likes of Eduardo and Arshavin. Bottom line is Hulk isnt coming to the emirates. Gignac would be a much better signing.

HUNTERLAAR ON LOAN FOR REST OF SEASON,BELLAMY FOR 10MILLION,INLER FOR 10MILLION AND CHELLINI OF JUVE FOR 12MILLION .
IT WILL GIVE US PACE AND POWER UP FRONT AND A BIT MORE STEAL AND A presence in midfield and defence

Jermaine Jones of Shalka 04 could be a replacement for Song… he is yet to certify as fit, but is highly regarded and probably a bargain comming off a broken leg.
Jones resembles Veraleen in his defensive prowess with a nose to get forward and make things happen. He is the real deal.
anonymous - January 5th, 2010 at 7:20 am
huuntelaar and bellamy have both been ruled out by wenger you fool. also bellamy would cost at least 15m.

Chiellini for 12 hahahaha you must be out of your fckn mind, the pound is way too low at the moment. You think you can have chiellini for 15 mil euros ? Your crazy you fool, he is 25 and has been juve’s defence leader for four years. He also has like 40 caps as a first team regular for italy. I hope the board wont let him go for anything under 30 mil euro.
anonymous - January 5th, 2010 at 11:16 am

players such as cannavaro n RVP… Bringing him wud be a huge loss since t lad’s got t uncanny knack of injurin his own teammates in practice sessions… (Cannavaro being a prime example)
Let t beast stay @ juve n break a few italian limbs n hearts…

complete bullshit again ……. why would arsenal buy a player who is cuptied when arsene has already said he wont do that…. and why would porto sell there best striker in january if we are playing them in febuary for a place in the CL quater final :S:S:S:S
anonymous - January 7th, 2010 at 7:11 am
If Wenger could get him for 15 I think he would do it, but that’s up to Porto.
anonymous - January 7th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
Im aussie but would not want scott mcdonald anywhere near arsenal, he can’t even score against for the national team against random teams like oman that i had mnever heard of till australia joined asia couple of years bak. That is the worst suggestion i have ever heard sorry but i almost fell out of my chair laughing
anonymous - January 18th, 2010 at 11:28 pm
HULK would be perfect fit for Arsenal f.c. He shoots like V.P. or possibly stronger, and he could with no problem out muscle J.Terry or any other defender for that matter.
