Rafa surely ready to reject massive bids!
Inter Milan are preparing a bid for Steven Gerrard should Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Reports today suggest that Inter boss Jose Mourinho is eager to capitalise on the Red’s dreadful season by luring away their star asset.
Mourinho has been an admirer of the Anfield captain for some time, even trying to sign him when he was in charge of Chelsea. And now Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport has suggested the England man will top Inter’s transfer targets in the summer.
Gerrard has become increasingly frustrated at Liverpool this season, and although he’s shown commitment to his home town club in the past, failure to finish in the top four could be the final straw. (Independent)
AC Milan are keen to make Torres their next star signing after failing to replace Kaka, Jose Mourinho dreams of having Steven Gerrard at Inter Milan and Juventus are ready to renew their interest in Javier Mascherano next summer. (Various)
It seems a great many clubs are looking to pounce should Liverpool fail to make it into the top four this season and a trio of talent is being targeted for expensive Anfield exits but should they even bother? There is no way Rafa Benitez will sanction moves for Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard and neither would leave Liverpool any time soon. Where there may be a slight chance is with Javier Mascherano who may have improved a little but is still a shadow of the player he was last term.
Liverpool have started to turn the corner with wins against Wolves and Aston Villa and even a poor performance in the FA Cup against Reading shouldn’t have had that much of an impact and don’t put it past the Merseyside outfit going on a long unbeaten run and putting sustained pressure on the current top four.
If the teams chasing these trio were Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona then there may have been a slight chance of a huge bid having a chance of succeeding but I see no reason why this Italian trio of clubs have of securing either Torres or Gerrard.
The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have reportedly been chasing the Liverpool pillars of importance but if there are two players who are definitely not going to leave in the coming few years then it is them. Rafa Benitez has also made it clear he doesn’t want to see Mascherano leave and it will take a big bid to make the Spaniard reconsider that stance.
