It’s January so its time for Harry to get busy…apparently.
So hope you all had a good New Years and Xmas period and even though we are all back at work at least we can get stuck into the footie and the obligatory January madness so lets start with these.
And despite his claims to the contrary, ‘Arry looks set to get busy with some of his trademark wheeling and dealing during the current window, having taken a shine to Sunderland frontman Kenwyne Jones, who he’d be prepared to take to White Hart Lane in a deal that could result in David Bentley going the other way, after Steve Bruce expressed interest in bringing the outcast winger to the Stadium of Light. Bentley has also been linked with a move to La Liga side Atlético Madrid, while other Tottenham players believed to be up for grabs to the highest bidders include strikers Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane. David Bentley won’t be a Tottenham player for much longer surely but it appears no one is actually willing to put in a decent bid for the attacking midfielder who once had a great season at Blackburn but has been unable to get anything right since (except for that long range corker at the Emirates of course). Will he go to Spain? I can actually see him giving that a go and then returning six months later and rejoining Rovers! I am not a clairvoyant but put some money on it anyway!
As for a switch that sees Kenwyne Jones coming to White Hart Lane and Bentley going to Sunderland, I would say thanks but no thanks to that.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp considering move for Peterborough duo
George Boyd, the Peterborough captain, could be a surprise target for Tottenham in the January window.
Manager Harry Redknapp has insisted he is unlikely to make a move in the window, but it is understood that Tottenham have followed the rapid success of Boyd.
He led Peterborough on Saturday in the 4-0 FA Cup defeat at White Hart Lane. But his progress since joining Peterborough from non-league football has attracted top clubs and the man dubbed the ‘White Pele’ by Stevenage fans is still only 24.
Boyd cost Peterborough £260,000, then a non-league record, and has seen the club win successive promotions.
He is also a Scottish B international after proving that his maternal grandfather was born in Glasgow.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans urged Redknapp to move for another Peterborough player. Although he conceded four goals, goalkeeper Joe Lewis impressed and was buoyed by chants of ‘Tottenham’s No 2’ after three excellent saves in two minutes. (Telegraph)
I rate George Boyd and have seen him work his magic for the Posh on a number of occasions but I think that a move to the top half of the top tier is beyond him. Joe Lewis on the other hand is a keeper with a future and could be well worth taking a look at for the future.
So will Harry make big changes this month? I think he will chop and change and may well bite the bullet and allow Roman to leave and likewise Bentley if the right bid comes in. Another keeper may be brought in but lets face it things are looking pretty tip top at present and traveling to Tottenham games home and away has become a joy rather than a chore and its amazing what a difference a year makes. Bring on Liverpool!
