Roberto closes in on Inter Milan battler.
Patrick Vieira is in talks over a proposed move to big-spending Manchester City, it was reported today.
The Inter Milan midfielder looks set to become the first signing of the Roberto Mancini era after advanced discussions were held last night.
Yesterday, Mancini refused to talk about transfers until after his side’s Carling Cup clash with Manchester United, but that hasn’t stopped progress being made on the deal.
The former Arsenal captain has been identified as a player who can sure up the defensively questionable team.
It’s understood that the 33-year-old will initially join on loan with the promise of a permanent contract should the move work out.
It’s also reported that Arsenal could attempt to hijack the deal after refusing to rule out a move for their former hero. (Independent)
Roberto Mancini obviously has links to Inter Milan but whether they will assist him in bringing former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira to the club is another matter. Jose Mourinho has fought off offers for the Frenchman for a while and is unlikely to give in easily on the matter.
Manchester City could well do with the hugely experienced midfield battler and it seems the 33 year old has a year or two still in the tank and could also pass on some very useful advice to others in the Eastlands set up who could learn a thing or two from the World Cup winner.
Vieira’s inclusion in the Man City midfield could well help solidify the area ahead of an at times leaky defence would be a wise one and Mancini will be all too aware that the back line is the weak link in his side. However the new boss already seems to be working his magic in that regard after seeing his side claim three clean sheets in his first three games in charge.
