Mauro Zarate’s agent claims Arsenal are interested in signing the Argentine star.
The Lazio striker has previously impressed in England with Birmingham, and he has continued his good form in Serie A.
Zarate joined Lazio in 2008, but he is now being linked with a move to Arsenal and his agent claims to have held talks.
“I am in contact with Arsenal,” Jose Alberti is quoted by the Italian media.
“A couple of days ago a leader of the English club asked me about him.
“Arsenal wants to increase their attacking options and so already they are preparing an offer of €40million which they will deliver to Claudio Lotito [Lazio president].” (Sky Sports)
Mauro Zarate’s agent has previously been noted for some rather misleading and in fact downright fictitious remarks in the past and I think anything he states should be taken with a rather large pinch of salt. The Argentine is a pretty good player with plenty of unfulfilled potential but the idea that Arsenal would make a club record bid of such immense proportions is highly unlikely.
The 22 year old had a pretty decent loan spell at ultimately doomed Birmingham City, and indeed played in the game of that season that saw Arsenal striker Eduardo assaulted and William Gallas go more than a little crazy. Arsene Wenger is said to be a fan of the nippy striker and a number of clubs have reportedly taken an interest in the Lazio man but it should be noted that Zarate only signed a permanent deal at the Rome based club in May but has had a pretty shocking season for the club who are currently only just above the relegation zone.
No doubt Mauro’s agent is trying to engineer a move for his client but if he thinks that such a tactic will work with the Gunners then I think he may be barking up the wrong tree. The former Velez Sarsfield man undoubtedly possesses the kind of talent and flair that is becoming of the Emirates outfit but there is just not enough end product to make Wenger even consider such a transfer.

Mauro Zarate’s agent mut be really on crack or something. How can he expect Arsenal to spend 35 – 40 million pounds on for Zarate. Of course, he is trying to see if this talk will attract attention. I think it attracted negative attention. Arsene Wenger will never even pay 10 million pounds for Zarate. We have undersized attackers in the form Nasri, AA, Eduardo. We no longer will add sub 6-0 feet player. Sorry.
Yo agent, may be ask Citi. They might have surplus money to spend to anyone. Of course, they are have my vote as the best generous spender!

listen how many times have you watched him play?? If Wenger says he is worth 35 or so million then he is. Wenger doesn’t go out and buy at that sort of money if he didn’t think this boy was the real deal. Sorry, but whoever says otherwise is a dick

”Zarate is twice as good as henry”….now what the hell makes a professional manager say something like that? It’s arrogance.Thierry Henry was one of the best strikers in the world, and he’s being compared to Zarate?I’m not saying Zarate isn’t good, he’s really good and has alot of potential and he might even surpass Henry, you never know but right now comparing those two is like comparing….theres nothing like it its just lunacy.

lol this site has the most funniest rumours. lol 35m? please we all know wenger uses the clubs money like its his own. he loves the club too much to bid that high and the fact he said he would not sign players that are expensive already tells us this is fiction not fact. IF wenger does sign a player he must be at least under 10m.
thanks to wenger arsenal is a very stable club in financial terms

40m gbp? Il eat my hat if wenger ever spent that on anyone. The whole arsenal starting 11 prob cost less than that to assemble. And don’t you hate when agents claim to have been in contact. You can never trust them.

Its amazing how over priced players are these days. A couple of years ago, Steven Gerrard was rated at 35 million. A couple of years ago, Micheal Ballack was worth 20 million. I mean Defoe was sold to Pompy for 15 million. 40 million for a striker. Barca payed 20 for Henry.
In all honesty, I have never heard of this player. But all Arsenal and EPL fans know that he can sign no name players and turn them into world class players. When he signed Nasri a couple of seasons ago, I thought that was a bit much. He will never pay 35 million for a player though.

WENGER SAID HE ISNT GONNA GO FOR GIGNAC COZ HE IS VALUED AT OVER £20M SO HE AINT GONNA SPEND 40 ON ZARATE. HES A CLASS PLAYER THO. IF I WAS WENGER I WOULD MAKE A £15M BID FOR DZEKO IF REJECTED GO UP TO £20M BUT THATS IT.
