David Beckham was apparently turned down for a cameo on The Simpsons because producers didn’t think he was famous enough.
The footballer and style icon may have posed in nothing but his pants on a giant billboard for Armani underwear, but he was not turned into a yellow cartoon to meet Bart and Homer as executives behind the hit TV show felt he wasn’t well known enough in the US.
Executive producer Al Jean told The Daily Mirror: “I had to phone David Beckham to tell him sorry – I didn’t think he was a big enough star for an American audience.”
He added: “I got a lot of grief about that.
“Some people got angry about it and told me, ‘I bet you would have put George Best on’. But I would have turned him down too.”

First off, who is sad enough to put themselves forward for a cameo role on The Simpsons? Surely that is something that you should be offered rather than trying to force the issue and then getting the inevitable rejection.

There is no doubting that David Beckham is a celebrity but I for one can’t imagine how the LA Galaxy star would’ve been written into the hit TV show and the idea that his people tried to get him on the show a little desperate to say the least.

No doubt Victoria Beckham has also been on the phone trying to get her somewhat scary persona on the show and funnily enough she already looks like a crazed caricature of herself such is her frightening appearance and seemingly insane pandering for as much attention as she can muster.

In an ideal world the fame hungry pair could appear briefly on Itchy and Scratch before both being decapitated before having their heads replaced by ripe pineapples.
