Rafa makes plans for a busy January apparently.
Rafa Benitez is reportedly preparing a loan move for Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha.
The Liverpool boss is desperate to add defensive cover to his side, with right back Glen Johnson set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Onuoha signed a long-term contract at the City of Manchester Stadium in the summer, but has only made four appearances since after an injury ruled the 23-year-old out for a large part of the season so far.
Reports in The People suggest that the Reds are ready to offer Onuoha a short-term loan deal at Anfield. The Reds are short on defensive options in all positions, and Onuoha’s versatility makes him a perfect candidate for a switch to Merseyside.
The former England Under 21 international isn’t believed to be in the plans of new boss Roberto Mancini, and could put himself in the shop window for a move to Liverpool or elsewhere with a successful six-month stint.
The pair of clubs are seen as direct rivals for the fourth place spot in the Premier League, and whether City would want to loan players to a competitor is another issue entirely.
However, with City able to spend freely in the transfer market, a further addition at the back could leave Onuoha surplus to requirements in Lancashire and the possibility of a move much more likely. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Apparently it is very unlikely Man City will loan Onuoha to Liverpool but would accept around £6m for the 23 year old but what would the Eastlands back up defender really have to offer at Anfield? With the likes of Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher to call upon for centre back duty and the likes of impressive youngster Daniel Ayala coming through, why would Rafa Benitez make a move for the reasonably average former England Under 21 international?
Even as a loan move it makes little sense and I don’t see it happening.
With the transfer window open Sunderland continue to be linked with a host of star names…
The latest duo supposedly in line for a move to the Stadium of Light are Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and Liverpool winger Ryan Babel.
Today’s People reckons Chris Kirkland will be the subject of a £5m bid by the Black Cats.
Writing in the same newspaper, Alan Nixon claims Liverpool winger Ryan Babel could also be on his way to Sunderland in a swap deal involving striker Kenwyne Jones. (Sunderland Echo)
There appears to be a queue forming for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones with the likes of Tottenham and Man City constantly linked with the Trinidad International but I have to say I don’t see either side really pushing for a move for a striker who isn’t exactly prolific and often flatters to deceive and can on occasion vanish from games so a swap deal wouldn’t be a move that would benefit Liverpool in my opinion.
Ryan Babel is however surely on his last life at Anfield and Rafa Benitez will either choose to wait until the summer before offloading the Dutch flop or if a decent offer comes in the Liverpool boss may decide to cut his losses this month and use the money to bring in a replacement winger such as Hamburg’s Eljero Elia.
