A number of Premier League clubs have been alerted by the much publicized fall-out between Jeremy Menez and his manager Claudio Ranieri at Roma. The French star is highly-rated but has never fulfilled his early promise shown at Sochaux and Monaco. However, Menez is still only 22-years-old and there are a number of Premier League clubs eyeing a potential move with Liverpool the team named as leading the chase in the Italian press.
There is no doubt that the French star possesses top drawer ability although his temperament has often been called into question. He is a highly technical player with superb dribbling and passing ability and his versatility would make him an extremely useful acquisition for Rafa Benitez particularly if he can secure Menez on a loan to buy deal as the club have little transfer funds available. The French star can play on either wing, in the hole or as a forward so would be ideal for Liverpool whose squad is not as strong in depth as some of their rivals for a top four spot.
Relations between the two clubs following Alberto Aquilani’s move to Anfield and John-Arne Riise’s move to Rome are good and the Italian press claim talks are ongoing. (Football Pools)
22 year old Jeremy Menez is something of an enigma. The Frenchman is yet to fulfill all his potential and whilst a move for the Roma man may be a risk it would be one that could well pay off for Liverpool. Rafa Benitez hasn’t had the best of luck with getting effective players to play out on the wings. Albert Riera has turned out to be a purchase that hasn’t exactly borne fruit and Ryan Babel has lurched from one poor performance to the next.
Anfield has been used to seeing Dirk Kuyt manfully try to play in a wide role and whilst he has done well he isn’t a natural wideman and the same could be said for Yossi Benayoun who also is used in that role. Jeremy Menez is a talented player who had a good first season in Serie A but appears to have fallen out with Claudio Ranieri and would jump at the chance of a move to join Alberto Aquilani at the Merseyside outfit.
Valued at £9m but worth far more if he manages to adapt to the Premier League, Benitez has some funds available having offloaded Andrea Dossena and Andrei Voronin already this month and Babel could well follow to help make room for a move for the former Monaco man.

i think we should sign Nigel Reo Coker from Villa for around 3million. Would be a good back up as well as cover for Mascherano should he leave.. Would be perfect for Liverpool, good quality and also being english would help in the quota requirements for the champs/league. Has been treated symbolically by O’Neill.

There were reports that H&g were now saying rafa could have the money off babel’s sale if he went. If that was the case has to be Arda turan. We had enough frenchman with potential before rafa and none of them worked out any good.

Correct me if im wrong but we have only spent about £7mill in the summer if you take into account the difference of what we have sold and bought, so we should have a few pennies left to buy a pair of half decent boots unless the money has gone on Hick’s jr first class flight home. Now did i hear that Hick’s senior saying we will have big funds this summer when the world cup is upon us, someone like lucas or voronin would be valued at about £20mill by then so yet again we are screwed, well i feel it’s all too late as we need it now since the recession is over in America and to buy now would be ideal.

Certs are Maxi Rodriguez(1.25m) and Chamakh(Pre-Contract).
But if babel is sold im sure we’d go for Arda Turan or Mata instead, two players who have been watched by rafa and Liverpool for much longer, however i feel a deal for one of those two wouldn’t be until summer.
Menez on loan maybe?
loading...
baggins09 - January 13th, 2010 at 6:25 pm
i thought chamakh was coming in the summer!
menez should be good but if he settles quickly i would still like a left footed lw like bastos though as both menez and turan are right footed so could end up been another babel if played on the left and just running into defenders, so if either do end up coming i would use them on the rw and still try for a left footed left winger if we can free up funds.
would like too see how n’gog and menez gel up front in a 4-4-2 if torres was injured both been french and all, he would probably offer us more options with his versitility.

Rafa Benitez has been given the all-clear to use whatever money he generates from sales and he can use it in this January window, According to Skysports.com…Which is why reports that Babel will be shipped off are back on, i’m guessing this is the guy Benitez will replace him with.
*I think Benitez has been given the all-clear because of his Son’s foolish and disgusting behaviour towards that fan*

Spota, don’t judge Aquilani based on his 3 appearances, i have been watching the games and i see what he can bring to the team and it looks promising…. I know it feels shit to be a Liverpool supporter at the moment and looking for quick scapegoats is easy… a lot of liverpool supporters jumped on the Lucas bandwagon in the beginning of the season let’s not do the same with Aquilani.
Look to the players that should be performing like Gerrard and Carragher and blame them before taking it out on players who everybody wants to be the mirror image of Alonso like Lucas and Aquilani

Riera, el zhar and kelly still not fit mascherano suspended, johnson out long term. Whats everyones thoughts on the reading match? Stoke away saturday morning and 3 games in a week from then would rest stevie g and torres definitely. Gk-reina RB-darby LB-aurelio CB-skrtel CB-ayala CM-lucas CM-aquilani LM-benayoun CF-ngog CF-kuyt RM-babel
Subs cavalieri, carragher, insua, spearing, gerrard, pacheco, torres think we could suffer on saturday if the big boys all play especially carrying knocks. Should beat them easily. Quite good the way we have managed to get mascherano’s ban out of the way before stoke and spurs!!

Go out and snot the living f…. out of them and try and take off Gerrard and Torres as soon as a considerable lead has been obtained… I think we should try and field the same team we are going to play against stoke because we are not in a position to be farting about with selections, continuity and back-to-back victories is what we need at the moment

Why can’t rafa give a Fucking straight answer now. Why not just say it wasn’t a penalty but they deserved the win. Just repeating “there are things i wasn’t happy with” over and over again. Its as bad as “the referee was perfect” was stupid not rotating the squad, gerrard and torres injured 120 minutes of football for all the players ahead of stoke and spurs the league is by far and away the most important thing but it never is to him.
loading...
baggins09 - January 13th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
firstly well done reading it was a weak peno but it was given and well taken so well done.
it wasn’t all doom and gloom there was glimpses of aquilani showing a similar passing range to alonso and some good touches and turns also a few miss placed passes but thats just teething problems, i thought lucas played ok again a couple of miss place passes but there was some good stuff between him and aquilani to say it was one of there first games together, yossi was his usual self, babel i’m losing faith in he was just poor, bad first touch playing balls behind people running into defenders constantly over cooking passes just not good enough! degen looked better,
shame gerrard and torres went off so early i know it was more precautionary but were gonna have to get use to this now as both seem quite injury prone i’d take 120m for the pair and get players we can get a season out of.
most importantly though rafa needs to go! when gerrards was in the tunnel he looked like he was shitting it there is no determination there anymore it was like he was expecting to lose he already looked beaten!
as much as i would love to win the fa cup i agree the champions league is a must as thats what the top players want to play in, we’re a club in well publicised troubles so we need some form of carrot to tempt big names and they can play domestic cups for any team in any league, not to mention the revenue side of things!

Donavan Ried - January 13th, 2010 at 11:57 pm
Last match against Reading I suggested that we play 70%-80% and rest Gerrard, Torres etc to guard against injuries. Gerrard suspected hamstring, Torres injured, and we still lose to a team that in all likely hood will be playing First Division football next season…… 4th spot looks to be fading fast into the distance

Thing is, it’s one missed “goal” after another with this team and this manager. He speaks of restarting the season and the Cup being a big goal for the club and then we produce performances on par with a Championship side. I’m fucking sick to death of it. I know that there are good times ahead as the boardroom works to give us a future but for how long can we play this shit and get away with it by allowing these players to disgrace the club?

anonymous - January 14th, 2010 at 12:03 am
If there was ever proof this team is shit, it’s tonight. I can’t believe how shit we’ve become. With Torres and Gerrard wimping out, I can only believe Rafa is saving his cards for the 4th spot to save his bacon. That aside, we showed all the attributes of a team in dismal decline. Passing shit, first touch shit, no of chances created shit. defending shit. No one person was shittier than any other. All collectively shit. Fair play Reading, you should have won by three goals, instead we sat back at one – nil, as usual, thinking the job was done and got stuffed.
My particular man of the match award goes to Ngog. What a pile of shit. He came on for Torres and lived up to expectation playing like the fucking overrated piece of shit he is. At least Lucas got some tackles in. This is the worst I have ever seen Liverpool play. Absolute fucking disgrace!!!

Money is not the issue, look at the whole reading players, They are worth, less than half the price of LFc players but they still beat us. The problem is not about money that Rafa have or have not, it is about which players Rafa bought.
Look at our wing players and the reading wing players, our wing players are probably more than 2 times expensive than Reading wing players but Reading wing players delivered the cross 10 times better than LFC players. If Reading has the strikers like Torres, probaly we lost by at least 4 goals for sure. The reading wing players out run our full back every time they attack but our wing players unable ran passr their fulll back and Reading full backs are much cheaper than our fullbacks
The Problem is Rafa did not know how to buy right players with the right amount of money thats why he has no mney to buy new player. He used alot of money on the players which are not even good enough for 1st division team starting 11.(except Torres).
Rafa spents more than what he got from Alonso sale, by buying Aqualini who start played his first full game only today. Thats why he has no more money for Jan transfer.
Thats is the problem, he spend all the money for one player this season and if we are lucky we can see that player impact only on next season and that player cannot play for 4mnths from the begining of this season. Thats mean, it is like we don’t buy god playes at all this season.
So no more excuse about no money. Reading has less money than us but they still beat us. If we lost to Manu, Chelsea, Arsenal, Mancity I will accept that excuse( they bought more expensive playesr than us) but I will not accept that excuse for reading lost..

That was a fucking disgrace. Not one player showed any guts for the club, obviously there are problems from the top down, however the players are paid to perform on the pitch and they aren’t, therefore Rafa needs to be shown the door.
It’s his responsibility to get the players motivated and play for the club, which he’s not doing, if this continues we aren’t going to even qualify for the Europa league.
Babel, Kuyt, Beni, Ngog, Skrtel, Lucas are quite simply not good enough, it’s not as if it’s been a game here or there it seems to be every match.
We need a massive clear out to get rid of the prima donna’s and if that means getting rid then so be it.
