Harry ready to complete two January moves and bring two central midfielders to White Hart Lane.
Mathieu Flamini: Spurs Move for £7.5M Disgruntled Former Arsenal Star
Reports in Italy today claim that Tottenham are negotiating with AC Milan for their disgruntled former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini. The 25-year-old has endured a disappointing time in Italy since moving on a free transfer in 2008 as he’s struggled to maintain a first team place and often been forced to play as a full-back.
Last season, the French star declared his unhappiness to Sky Sport Italia, “I am a midfielder, I don’t want to play as a full-back.” (Football Pools)
Tottenham have agreed personal terms in principle with Sandro, Internacional’s 20-year-old Brazil midfielder, and they are attempting to push through a £6m deal for him during this transfer window.
Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager who says that his chairman, Daniel Levy, held further talks with Internacional last week, hopes to finance the move by selling Roman Pavlyuchenko to Zenit St Petersburg. The Russian club have made a £10m offer for the striker.
Tottenham first showed interest in the tough defensive midfielder last August when they also announced a sporting and strategic partnership with Internacional which, among other things, is intended to give them the first option on the Brazilian club’s players. Levy visited Porto Alegre to meet Vittorio Piffero, the Internacional president, and also to discuss the possibility of signing Sandro. The player’s lawyer, Luiz Paulo Chignall, has since travelled to London for talks. (Guardian)
So there you have it, Harry wanted to bring in a central midfielder to give us more options and to strengthen our squad and now we are reportedly set to bring in two defensive midfielders to White Hart Lane!
I am not sure how likely we would be to bring in Mathieu Flamini but its good news if we are as I rate the former Arsenal man. Clearly things are working well with Wilson Palacios and The Hudd but its always good to have high quality players to call upon. Sandro is more one for the future and we have been getting closer and closer to securing the Brazilian and now a work permit appears to be in place so we are very close to bringing the 20 year old to Tottenham.
We currently have a pretty top notch squad to call upon and if the idea is to finance any of these deals with the sales of Roman Pavlyuchenko and/or David Bentley then this is a win/win thing. We get to trim the squad of players who either have failed to show themselves to be good enough to play for Tottenham or those, such as Roman, who are simply unable to break into the side.
