Manchester City prepare £100m summer move for Liverpool striker Torres
The People have sensationally claimed this morning that Manchester City are preparing a sensational summer move for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres .
Reports of Torres’ departure from Liverpool are seemingly reported every Sunday in the tabloids, and today is no different.
Manchester City have reportedly prepared a bid that will smash the world transfer record to sign Torres, and add that if the Liverpool hitman moves to Eastlands he will earn a £200,000-a-week salary.
New Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has impressed the club’s hierarchy and if he guides them into the Champions League will be rewarded with a “blockbuster signing.”
Earlier this season Rafa Benitez publicly proclaimed he would leave Liverpool if Torres was sold from under him.
El Nino is currently recovering from a knee operation that will likely keep him out for another month at least.
This season Torres has scored has scored 12 goals for Liverpool in 19 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League. (IMScouting)
I guess you can’t blame Manchester City for trying, thats of course if this report has any validity, but there really is little or no chance that Liverpool Football Club would ever consider making such a deal. Yes they may be on financial dire straits and yes the fee offered would smash the record transfer fee to bits but can you imagine just how much more hated the club’s American owners would become if they considered cashing on Fernando Torres? If they feel ill at ease visiting Anfield at present one can only imagine how many bodyguards they would need to hire if they decided to sell El Nino to the Eastlands outfit.
The Spaniard clearly loves the club and would like nothing more than to achieve things whilst at the club rather than even considering a move elsewhere. Make no mistake though, the price is by no means a ridiculous one. The former Atletico Madrid man is a goal machine who simply can’t stop scoring and therefore is a priceless asset and luckily for Liverpool fans it will probably remain that way for some time as all bids for the ultra talented striker will surely be turned down flat.
Pepe Reina is ready to ink a new contract with Liverpool worth a walloping £23 million.
The goalkeeper entered discussions over a new deal shortly after the turn of the year, and it is expected that he will soon put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will see him rake in £90,000 per week.
Such lofty wages may seem impossible given the Reds’ ongoing financial problems, but Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, Daniel Agger and Dirk Kuyt have all signed similarly lucrative deals since last summer.
And there can be little doubt that Reina belongs among Anfield’s top earners, as he is now widely regarded as one of the world’s finest glovesmen – with some even calling for the 27-year-old to replace Iker Casillas as Spain’s No.1. (Goal.com)
When people talk about the best keepers currently plying their trade in Europe you often get the feeling that Pepe Reina is very much overlooked and whilst so many pundits and so called experts come up with tripe about Liverpool being a two man outfit it is easy to forget just how talented and crucial Pepe Reina is to the Merseyside oufit’s fortunes.
I am not surprised that the Spanish international has been offered a new megabucks deal as clearly Rafa Benitez realises just how important Pepe Reina is to the cause.
