Football - Scunthorpe United v Manchester City FA Cup Fourth Round

Unsettled Manchester City striker Robinho underlined his desire to leave Eastlands on Sunday and stated a loan return to Santos is ’90 per cent certain’.

The Brazil international was quoted by Radio Bandeirantes over the weekend as saying that he was set to leave City because he would not be guaranteed regular football by Roberto Manciniin a World Cup year.

City’s manager announced after Sunday’s victory over Scunthorpe in the FA Cup that he expected Robinho to stay in England during the January transfer window.

But British-record signing Robinho, who started and scored against Scunthorpe, is also quoted as saying on Sunday in an interview with TV Globo that all that is left to negotiate with Santos is the time period of his loan.

He said: “It’s all good progress. Santos are only looking at the length of contract because they want a year and City want only six months but I think it is 90% sure.” (Sky Sports)

It appears that Robinho’s goal yesterday at Scunthorpe United may well be the last one he puts away in a Manchester City shirt as his move to rejoin his childhood club Santos looks to be all but complete. The former Real Madrid man has been out of sorts this season and the influx of top quality strikers has left the Brazilian continuing to play out wide and it appears that he is ready to move away from Eastlands to secure a regular place in the national team set up as the World Cup draws closer.

The £32.5m signing has had an up and down time at the club but has consistently shown glimpses of the brilliance that the club splashed out big bucks for Robinho in the first place. I am sure that Manchester City fans will be saddened to see him leave and perhaps the move will just be a short term deal but it seems likely that he may well have played his last game for the club.
