Liverpool vs Reading

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has reportedly agreed personal terms with Dynamo Moscow according to the Russian club’s sporting director. The 29-year-old Israeli was linked with a £7 million move away from Anfield at the beginning of the week, and it appears the Russian giants have progressed further than many had anticipated given the midfielders standing with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
The former West Ham star has emerged as one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers despite their meagre form in the Premier League, and he is undoubtedly one of Rafa Benitez’s most trusted players. Dynamo Moscow suggest they are yet to agree a fee with Liverpool, but have an agreement in place with the player and now want to negotiate with the Premier League club.
The Liverpool midfielder was offered a similar deal by Spartak Moscow last summer, however he instead signed a new contract at Anfield. Reports suggest Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is extremely reluctant to lose the midfielder at such a crucial stage of the season, however the arrival of Maxi Rodriguez would represent a like for like replacement. Benitez would reportedly consider selling Benayoun if the funds earned from his sale could be reinvested in his squad.
Rafa Benitez is allegedly keen to bring a striker to Anfield and has been linked with Sunderland’s Kenwyne Jones, Tottenham’s Roman Pavlyuchenko and reputed Manchester United and Arsenal target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The Liverpool boss would entertain parting with Benayoun should he be able to sign any of the aforementioned forwards in order to shoulder the burden currently placed on Fernando Torres. This is not good news. There appear to be a few reports circulating that claim that Yossi Benayoun may well be about to leave Anfield and although I am doubtful he would Liverpool Football Club I have a horrible feeling he may well opt for a nailed down regular spot elsewhere rather than wait for Rafa Benitez to consider him worthy of a regular run in a team that he deserves to walk into week in, week out.

The Israeli is a key member of our squad as far as I am concerned and on his day one of the few natural match winners we possess and it has taken far too long for the gaffer to realise his worth. We can all see from the stands just how instrumental Yossi can be. When he has the ball he makes things happen but far too often he is on the bench whilst other lesser players get picked. Benayoun’s love of the club has seen him turn down other offers, reportedly from the likes of Manchester City, and I can only hope that this news is just pure speculation as to lose the former West Ham man would be a big blow in my view.

Rafa continues to look for attacking options to bring to the club and the three most often linked with a Liverpool move are the ones mentioned by this source. They may all cost too much though and I truly hope we steer clear of Kenwyne Jones. A loan move for either Pavlyuchenko and Huntelaar may be more likely although it seems highly unlikely that Tottenham would loan, or indeed sell, one of their players to assist a direct rival for a top four spot.

As for last nights display, well I really don’t know what to say. Its back to the negative tactics, as if those days ever left, and quite how Rafa decided not to make any more substitutions when we were failing to break down a Wolves side who were solid but by no means unbeatable. How could Benitez have been happy with that situation. We had Babel, Pacheco and Aquilani on the bench and yet he makes no move and I think that says a lot. Anyway back to the drawing board, we are unbeaten in six league games so there is no need to panic and we have two home games coming up and they are eminently winnable so lets get behind the lads at Anfield.
