Out-of-favour Real midfielder Fernando Gago is looking for a way out of the Santiago Bernabeu after growing frustrated at a lack of first team opportunities.

The Argentina international is thought to be interesting Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and Gago’s agent has suggested that a deal could be struck if any interested party can meet Real’s asking price.

Agent Marcelo Lombilla said: The subject is not yet closed.

“We want to speak again with (Real director general) Jorge Valdano and perhaps then the situation will change.”

Gago, who is growing anxious ahead of the World Cup finals in the summer, believes the situation with the Spanish giants has become untenable and he said: “I want to play and that has become impossible at Real.” (Independent)

It seems Real Madrid and Manchester City have plenty in common, not least a seemingly endless supply of cash but also a collection of players who are not happy with warming their benches but on this occasion the Bernabeu’s loss could be Eastlands gain.

23 year old Argentine International Fernando Gago is a top notch defensive midfielder and one who deserves to play regularly and could be just what Roberto Mancini is after. After snapping up Patrick Vieira the new Man City boss is looking to further strengthen his central midfield and the added bonus in signing the £16m rated former Boca Junior is that he can play in a number of positions with aplomb and has a lot of top notch experience for a player who is still relatively young.

Such a signing would further boost the club’s reputation and give them more strength in depth and help them push for that coveted top four spot.
