Nemanja Vidic on course for Real Madrid as United agree £7million deal for Chris Smalling
Manchester United have paved the way for Real Madrid to complete a £20 million summer move for Nemanja Vidic by agreeing a £7 million deal, which could rise to £10 million, to sign Fulham defender Chris Smalling.

Manchester United have beaten off competition from Arsenal to recruit the 20-year-old, who has made just three Premier League appearances for Fulham since arriving from Maidstone United in May 2008.
As part of the deal, Smalling will be loaned back to Fulham until the end of this season before returning to United for the 2010-11 campaign.

United’s move for the England Under-21 defender raises fresh doubts over the Old Trafford future of Vidic, who has been identified as Real’s top defensive target.
And with Sir Alex Ferguson also leading the race to sign Palermo defender Simon Kjaer, Vidic could become expendable. (Daily Telegraph)

Manchester United midfield Anderson could be the latest Brazilian to return to his home with an unexpected move to Vasco da Gama.

After being dropped from Manchester United’s 4-0 victory over Hull City on the weekend, Anderson returned to Rio on Monday night without permission of his club and will miss United’s next match on Wednesday’s against rivals Manchester City.

Anderson, 21, is already thought to have met with Vasco’s executive director Rodrigo Caetano and deal-breaker Carlos Leite, who has a financial interest in several Vasco players. Anderson has a close relationship with Rodrigo Caetano having worked together during at Anderson’s former club Grêmio. Rodrigo has a track record of using his former role to attract players to Vasco after the club signed recently signed Rafael Carioca, another former Grêmio youth product.

Upon arrival at Rio’s Galeão airport, Anderson revealed that he was in Rio to talk with Rodrigo Caetano but refused to comment on a possible move to Vasco. (Rio Fublog)

It was always going to happen. The moment Manchester United signed Fulham centre back Chris Smalling, apparently still not a completely done deal, the transfer rumour mill was going to predictably spin off its axis with talk of an apparent Nemanja Vidic exit, but would Sir Alex let that happen? I think not.

It seems highly unlikely that the Old Trafford boss would even consider the option of allowing another of his stars to be poached by Real Madrid, a club he clearly (and quite rightfully) despises. The Serbian International has repeatedly denied any falling out with the Man United boss but still speculation persists, however I think he will go nowhere.

However talk of an Anderson departure does seem more of a distinct possibility. After a pretty poor to average year or so at the club the Brazilian threw his toys out of the pram and stated his displeasure at continually warming the bench, bad move. However the talented midfielder then appeared to get his act together and played pretty well when he got a run in the team and then things went a little pear shaped and he lost a little form and now appears to be trying to force an exit by not returning to the club when he was supposed to and that could well be the final straw, which would be a shame as he is a quality player who has a good future ahead of him if he can keep his head together, it appears however that his future may well be destined to be away from Old Trafford but I don’t see him moving back to Brazil and I wouldn’t be surprised if he stuck it out in Europe and I have a sneaky feeling that Manchester City may well express their interest in him sooner or later!
