Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to hijack Eidur Gudjohnsen’s transfer to West Ham United .
The former Chelsea star flew into Stansted airport from Monaco today to meet Hammers officials and to undergo a medical.
At the airport were Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and chairman Daniel Levy.
Gudjohnsen, 31, went for his medical at West Ham today, but will be having talks with Tottenham before making a final decision on his return to the Premier League. (Daily Mirror)
Well if this is true then we have been incredibly cheeky and I like it! Harry already stated in an interview that he was keen on Eidur Gudjohnsen but appeared to suggest that a deal was already sewn up and that the Barcelona man was halfway to Upton Park but now we may well have changed the former Chelsea man’s mind and just maybe he is on his way to White Hart Lane!
The ultra adaptable attacker can play in a number of roles across the midfielder, out wide and also as a second striker and has been there and done it both in Spain and in the Premier League. He is the type of player who makes things happen and whilst at Barcelona he has become a more intelligent player who always uses the ball well and perhaps is less prolific in front of goal but has become something of an assist machine in La Liga but now seems to have been overhauled by the younger group of players that Pepe Guardiola is trying out this term and now the Icelandic International wants to try his luck elsewhere and surely we can convince him a move to Tottenham would be better than going to West Ham to play out a relegation battle!
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is reportedly closing in on an £11 million move for Danish defender Simon Kjaer.
The 20-year-old centre back has been on the Premier League radar at a string of Premier League clubs, but now Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is ready to make his move after a personal scouting trip to Italy.
Kjaer is rated as one of the finest young defenders in European football, and his stock continues to rise at Palermo. Redknapp must have been impressed with the defender’s commanding performance, playing 90 minutes in a 3-0 victory over Champions League side Fiorentina.
After starting his career at homeland club FC Midtjylland, Kjaer made the switch to Serie A in 2008 with a €4 million transfer to the Rosanero.
A solid season at the Stadio Renzo Barbera led to a first international call up up in February 2009, and Kjaer has gone from strength-to-strength since then.
“We looked at him but we have not made a bid. I have been to Italy the last couple of weeks. We go there to look at people who have been recommended. We follow up leads,” said Redknapp.
Tottenham have reportedly opened up negotiations over an £11 million move, although wage demands close to £100,000 would seem to be an obvious stumbling block. Spurs will be keen to talk him down though, with Redknapp looking to add some defensive competition amidst an injury-prone back line. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Simon Kjaer is a wanted man and we want a centre back to give us more strength in depth and a future pairing of the Danish International and Sebastien Bassong sounds good to me. Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate seem cursed in the way of injuries so I can see why Harry is looking to bring us another defensive option and the big determined Palermo man seems like a pretty decent signing.
Finally well done the lads on last night’s win over Fulham. It was a workmanlike performance and one I enjoyed witnessing and it seemed like the type of performance, not a spectacular one, that should help solidify our hopes of that top four finish. The trip to Birmingham on the weekend should also be a good test. Alex McLeish’s men have been playing out of their skin this season and are unbeaten in 15 matches so in many ways a draw would be sufficient such is the incredible start to the season the Brum have had.
Oh yes, and well done Gareth Bale, finally winning a Premier League game that he has started. It seems the BAE’s injury worries could be the best thing that has happened to him as he has done pretty well as a replacement for Benoit in recent weeks.
