Football - Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth Barclays Premier League

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has laid bare the tensions within the club’s hierarchy over Younes Kaboul’s possible move to Tottenham.
Storrie discovered from Pompey boss Avram Grant that meetings were occurring at Spurs over Kaboul’s sale.
And asked if he felt his role had become untenable, Storrie told Quay Radio: “In many ways it probably has.
“If there is a need to sell a player and get a fee then I feel I am the best person for the situation,” he added.
Barely a day goes by without new revelations coming to light about Pompey’s perilous financial position, hence the need to sell Kaboul to his former club Spurs for possibly as much as £11m. (BBC Sport)

Tottenham are on the brink of signing Eidur Gudjohnsen – and Portsmouth defender Younes Kaboul could be joining the Monaco forward in moving to White Hart Lane.

Gudjohnsen was at Tottenham’s training ground on Thursday to put the finishing touches to his loan move after having turned his back on West Ham despite undergoing a medical at Upton Park.

Reports also indicate that Tottenham are closing in on the signing of their former defender Kaboul, who left Spurs to join Portsmouth in the summer of 2008 after failing to fully convince during his one season at White Hart Lane.

Kaboul has blossomed at Fratton Park though and Harry Redknapp, who signed the player for Pompey, is now in talks to bring the Frenchman back to Tottenham.

Harry Redknapp and transfer windows go together like Jam and Toast. Today has been a particularly busy day for the White Hart Lane boss as he looks set to add Younes Kaboul to his rapidly growing intake of Portsmouth players. Tottenham have also sealed the deal to bring Eidur Gudjohnsen to the club much to the chagrin of West Ham United.

Younes Kaboul did okay at Tottenham before he left for Pompey where he has grown and matured into a pretty decent centre back and given the injury problems Harry has had with his current crop of defenders its no surprise that he was looking to improve things at the back and such a move seems like good sense.

I would however be surprised if the north London club had to fork out the reported £11m for the Frenchman given that the south coast side still owes Tottenham money for the original purchase of the former Auxerre man. Such a move back to White Hart Lane could help the defender push for a first senior call up for the French national team although reportedly the 24 year old may well still opt to play for Morocco if he continues to be ignored by Raymond Domenech.
