Arsenal will wait until the summer to make their move for French forward Loic Remy.

The Gunners have been linked with a string of strikers during the January transfer window, but Arsenal scout and former midfielder Gilles Grimandi suggested the club would wait until the summer before making their move to bolster the forward line.

Nice striker Remy appears to be the new number one target at the Emirates, and Grimandi admitted that the 23-year-old striker was being monitored by the north London club.

“We know the potential of Remy. He has one of the greatest potentials in France and perhaps even in Europe over the next five years,” said the Frenchman, who is currently the Gunners’ chief scout in his homeland.

“He has a physical standard that is outside the usual, but we are looking for a player who will enhance our strength very quickly,” Grimandi continued telling Europe 1 radio station.

Remy started his career with Lyon, and after a brief loan spell at Lens made the reported €8 million switch to Les Aiglons. The club record transfer has shone at the Stade Municipal du Ray, but a recent spitting row between players and fans made the striker an immediate transfer target.

“I wet my shirt for people who spit at me; it’s unacceptable,” he told RTL. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)

Given all the talk that was going around, fueled in some part by quotes from Arsene Wenger himself, that we would be looking to bring in a striker before the end of the month I have to say I was thinking we would have nabbed someone by now, but perhaps we needn’t act to rashly. A summer move for Loic Remy would appear to be a decent idea albeit the asking price of £15m might be a bit rich for a young striker who has essentially had one good season in Ligue 1.

However Remy has now found his way into the senior French International set up and could well have a bright future and by all accounts we have been doing our homework on the former Lyon man with Gilles Grimandi watching him closely and we are not the only big side circling the well built pacy frontman.

We have a fairly good selection of strikers at the club but recent injury problems have proven that perhaps another option would be handy. With RVP out for a long spell and Eduardo and Nicklas Bendtner also suffering with niggling knocks we have been left having to consider playing Theo Walcott in an unaccustomed role luckily we get a great many goals from all positions so that we have therefore managed to deal with the loss of frontmen and still continue on what has been a fantastic run of Premier League form, now ten games unbeaten.

Thomas Vermaelen has NOT fractured his leg but he still may miss Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Belgian limped off in the first half of the draw at Aston Villa on Wednesday night and afterwards manager Arsène Wenger feared the centre back might have broken a bone.

Scans on Thursday afternoon showed there was no break but the leg injury could still sideline Vermaelen in the short term.

On the upside, Wenger has added Emmanuel Eboue and Alex Song to his squad after they returned from the Africa Cup of Nations. Meanwhile Eduardo’s hamstring injury is “small, small, small”. The striker, who also limped off at Villa Park, is out for Sunday but could be back next weekend for the trip to Chelsea. Abou Diaby is also in line to return at Stamford Bridge.

“There is no fracture in Thomas’ leg but his injury still has to be assessed,” said Wenger. “There is still a good chance he will not play on Sunday. (Official Arsenal Site)

This is good news indeed. There was a real worry that Thomas would be out for a large chunk of the rest of the season so whilst its not great that he misses the Emirates clash against Manchester United on the weekend at least he will be back soon after. The Belgian has been awesome this season both going forward, already weighed in with half a dozen goals, and has been pretty solid at the back. The Ajax man has settled in immediately to the pace, power and pressure of the Premier League and could well be the signing of the summer.
