If money and timing were no object then these five would all be plying their trade at Anfield!

Football - West Ham United v Middlesbrough FA Cup Fifth Round

Some of these fall into the “if money was no object category” and others are more realistic and do not require us to spend money we don’t have, ala Portsmouth, and hell some wouldn’t cost a penny (if we ask nicely)!

David Villa

Yes I know its unlikely but come the summer perhaps not impossible. The Valencia man will surely leave the La Liga club if they do not qualify for the Champions League, currently third, or indeed if the Spanish club find their debts too much to bare. The lethal goal machine has made some interesting quotes about “all the friends” he has at Anfield and that has merely added more fuel to the speculation and whilst he would obviously cost a great deal if Liverpool can rid themselves of more deadwood, as they have done with the offloading of Voronin and Dossena, then perhaps its a financial hurdle that can be overcome. The idea of getting El Nino and Villa to partner at club level would have anyone drooling and clearly it would be a dream to get such a deal done.

Micah Richards

There has been much talk of late in terms of Rafa Benitez looking to bring in a new right back to help cope with Glen Johnson’s injury woes and I can think of no better replacement at this time than Manchester City’s adaptable defender Micah Richards. The England International is a quality player who is by no means a regular starter at Eastlands. He could be got on the cheap and perhaps could even be a potential last gasp addition in this very transfer window (I know I may be asking for too much on this point).

Klaas Jan Huntelaar

We need firepower and the AC Milan man knows where the back of the net is, unfortunately his time at the San Siro has been a disaster thus far and the Serie A club is doing pretty well without the former Real Madrid man being part of their plans be it because of injury (initially) and then very average form. Apparently the former Ajax man has a soft spot for Liverpool and perhaps we can play on that and get him away from his Italian nightmare. He has been linked with a move to many Premier League sides already and whilst he may not be available this month come the summer his situation may be far clearer and then may be the right time to strike. Again, like with David Villa, he could work very well alongside Fernando Torres.

David Silva

Another oft mentioned target and again another player who surely will at some stage leave Valencia. With Rafa on board, if he is still around by the end of the season, we could persuade the talented attacker to join. We lack creativity and natural width and David Silva offers these attributes in abundance. Again not a cheap option but one that would have a huge impact.

Adam Johnson

Another option to help boost our options out wide and one who’s contract comes to an end this summer. The Middlesbrough winger is reportedly very close to signing a pre-contract deal with Manchester City and we would do well to try to beat the Eastlands side to his signature. Such a deal may well end up going to a tribunal and they ten to just hit a mid ground between the two club’s valuation of the player in question so if Rafa values him very lowly then we could net a bargain. The England Under 21 international has great pace and can deliver a killer ball into the box and has started to score with alarming regularity to boot, 12 goals this season already. A player who could really develop at Anfield and one who helps boost our ‘homegrown’ quota.

So there you have it some ‘dream’ buy suggestions from me, now over to you!
