Birmingham balk at £13m for Roman Pavlyuchenko of Tottenham Hotspur
• City make counter-offer for strikerBirmingham City have refused to meet Tottenham Hotspur’s £13m asking price for Roman Pavlyuchenko and will turn their attention elsewhere if the London club refuse to negotiate. Tottenham have demanded £10m up front and another £3m in add-ons, with the total cost of the package rising to £23m when the Russian striker’s wages over a three-and-a-half year contract are taken into account.
Carson Yeung has vowed to spend money this month but Birmingham’s owner believes Tottenham’s valuation of a player who has failed to make a Premier League start this season to be excessive. Birmingham have made a revised offer and are hopeful that middle ground can be found before the transfer window closes on Monday. (Guardian)
OK so we knew it would be a busy last few days of the transfer window and it appears Harry Redknapp will be spending the next 72 hours with an abacus in one hand and a mobile in the other. If we are now at the negotiating stage with Birmingham City over Roman Pavlyuchenko’s proposed move then you can bet your bottom dollar any other potential suitors will now come out of the woodwork so expect the Russian to be leaving White Hart Lane before the month is out. It will be a shame to see the Spartak Moscow man leave Tottenham but he needs to be playing week in week out at his age and that simply will not happen at White Hart Lane.
West Ham are set to raid London rivals Tottenham for right-sided pair Alan Hutton and David Bentley , according to Sky Sports this morning.
Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola is eager to strengthen in the January transfer window following the takeover of David Gold and David Sullivan.
David Bentley surprisingly returned to the Spurs first team and scored in the win over Fulham on Tuesday night. Due to the form of Aaron Lennon, the former Arsenal and Blackburn winger has long been linked with a move from White Hart Lane.
Alan Hutton has made just eight Premier League appearances for Tottenham in 2009/2010. He is behind Vedran Corluka in the pecking order for the right back slot and although the Scottish international is eager to leave, Spurs will want to recoup the money they paid Rangers.
Julien Faubert has played much of the season at right back for West Ham despite being predominantly a midfielder and David Bentley would add competition for places in midfield. (IMScouting)
Apparently we really angered West Ham over the whole Eidur Gudjohnsen business so the least we can do is flog them a couple of pretty decent players who just don’t cut it at Tottenham. David Bentley has plenty of ability but consistency, or lack thereof, has meant that he has become little more than a bit part player under Harry Redknapp so its also in his best interests to seek pastures new and a move to Upton Park, with their new financial clout, would be a good one in my view. He could then be a big fish in a small pond, no disrespect meant, and that is how the player seems to like it, hence his doing fantastically well at Blackburn but flopping at Arsenal and Spurs. If Zola can persuade Sullivan and Gold to fork out a decent price for the pair, i’d say £14m for the pair would be a fair valuation, then the pair would go a long way to steering the east London club in the right direction.
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie and manager Avram Grant are so shocked by events in the last 24 hours over transfer talks behind the scenes at the club that they are both contemplating quitting.

Mark Jacobs, the club’s executive director, is also deeply upset that Portsmouth’s owners have decided to listen to an offer from Tottenham for goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as well as £11 million rated defender Younes Kaboul. (ESPN)
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse at Fratton Park…it does exactly that. They are heading towards a ten point deduction any moment now and then it will really could go horribly wrong. I think Redknapp moving for Kaboul and Begovic makes sense and if he can get them for a good price then all the better. Some might say that Harry is just rubbing salt into the south coast clubs wounds but I think that giving the cash strapped club some much needed cash could well be a blessing in disguise.
