Football - Portsmouth v Liverpool Barclays Premier League

Sunderland move for Spurs skipper Robbie Keane will allow Kenwyne Jones to join Liverpool

Tottenham captain Robbie Keane is to join Sunderland in a £10million deal that will spark a transfer merry go-round in the final 36 hours of the window.
Keane has been allowed to move to his third club in a year after falling behind Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Ironically, he rejoined Spurs on the final day of the January window a year ago when he was sold back to the north London club, where he has been team captain, by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at a £5m loss.
Keane’s departure, which takes the total spent on him in seven major moves in his career to £80m, will breathe new life into what has been a quiet window.
The 29-year-old’s arrival will allow Sunderland boss Steve Bruce to sell Kenwyne Jones to Birmingham or Liverpool. If Jones ends up at Anfield, Holland winger Ryan Babel will move to St Andrew’s. (Daily Mail)

So there you have it. It appears that Sunderland have blinked first and we are set for the mother of all chain reactions apparently. I am not a big fan of £14m rated Kenwyne Jones but if we do sign him I will of course give him the benefit of the doubt and cheer him on. He doesn’t strike me as a player good enough to play at Anfield and he is very much a confidence player who scores in patches. Steve Bruce was annoyed at the way we have been trailing the Trinidad international but that won’t stop him cashing in on the former Southampton man.

Ryan Babel’s departure looks likely to finance a chunk of the potential move and it looks like Birmingham lead the way but will the Dutchman really make that move? I think its more likely another club might come out of the woodwork and I have a sneaking feeling that Ajax may come in for their former star.

Its will be a shame to see Babel leave but only because he has definite ability and just needs to click and the fact he hasn’t done so far has a little to do with his lack of determination and a little to do with the player not getting used to the Premier League but I think he will come good sooner or later but we gave him a good shot to impress.
