Sunderland will launch a bid for Robbie Keane today – and that may trigger Kenwyne Jones’ departure to Liverpool.

Steve Bruce wants Keane to link-up again with Darren Bent and is ready to test Tottenham’s resolve to keep the Irishman with an £8m bid.

Keane has not been a regular in Harry Redknapp’s team and was on the bench again yesterday in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Birmingham. (Daily Mirror)

So it appears that Harry Redknapp is looking to allow Robbie Keane to leave and keep Roman Pavlyuchenko, which is a little surprising given just how little playing time the Russian has had at White Hart Lane. If indeed Tottenham accept the bid from Sunderland, said to be in the region of £8m, I would be surprised and I think they are more likely to only accept offers of around £11m and over which would seem a fairer price for a striker of Keane’s pedigree.

Then of course there is the issue of whether the Irishman would be keen on the move in the first place. He may not feel his style of play would be suited the manner in which the Stadium of Light side operates but we have less than 48 hours of the transfer window remaining and that may force everyone to move quickly and if Keane is not going to get a game at Tottenham then he would probably rather make the move to the north-east.
