Tottenham striker Robbie Keane is shaping up to be the biggest name on the move during Monday’s transfer deadline day.
Keane has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane with Harry Redknapp viewing Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch as his preferred strike partnership.
Sunderland are the latest club to be linked with a swoop for the Republic of Ireland captain, who is valued at around £9million.
Celtic had a bid turned down earlier this month while West Ham, who were trumped by Spurs in their attempt to sign Eidur Gudjohnsen, have also expressed an interest. (Sporting Life)
I have seen some sources, reputable or not, claiming we have already accepted the offer from Sunderland and that it is now down to Robbie to decide if he wants to leave White Hart Lane or not. It would be sad to see the Irishman leave Tottenham but lets face it he isn’t half the player he was before we offloaded him to Liverpool. Such a move may be a reprieve for Roman Pavlyuchenko but then what kind of reprieve would it be? The Russian is still going to be sat on the bench waiting for his chance. I am sure Harry Redknapp has a few last gasp deals in mind and we shall see tomorrow (or today depending on when you read this) what comes to fruition. My feeling is we should get ourselves a keeper and thats about it. Lets face it we have a pretty damn good squad at present, one of the best we have had in the 25 years I have been supporting the club, so there is no need to really go crazy although no doubt Harry is desperate to spend spend spend.
Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate has set his sights on a return to action before the end of the season.
Woodgate has made only three Premier League appearances this season due to a niggling groin problem and has now flown to America for further treatment.
The injury has frustrated Spurs’ medical staff and Harry Redknapp admitted earlier this week he could not put a timescale on the centre-back’s comeback.
However, Woodgate is optimistic he will soon be back on the pitch to help his team-mates in their quest for UEFA Champions League qualification.
“I hope to be back out there soon,” he said in the Sunday Mirror.
“Injuries are never nice but all players know they are part of the game and you just have to get on with it.
“I’m just looking to get fit again and play a part in what should be an exciting end to the season.
“I just hope to be back soon, helping the team in any way I can.” (Sky Sports)
Good news indeed. Can’t wait for Woody to come back, that is no to say that we have missed him hugely, I just rate him as on his day one of the best centre backs in the Premier League. I look forward to seeing him from the White Hart Lane stands repeatedly putting his long hair back behind his ears in that OCD manner of his.
Tottenham are set for a race against time to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster , according to the News of the World.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said yesterday despite efforts to sign Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic , he expects the 22 year-old to sign for Stoke City, where he has a better chance of regular first team football than at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham’s attentions have therefore turned to Foster with Spurs chief Daniel Levy reportedly in talks with Manchester United counterpart David Gill to seal the transfer before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
Foster finds himself as third choice for the number one shirt at Manchester United behind Tomasz Kusczack and Edwin Van der Saar. United are reportedly prepared to listen to offers of around £4-5million for Foster who still hopes to make England’s World Cup squad. (IMScouting)
And there you have it. Harry wants Ben Foster to fill the replacement keeper role. Not to keen on the Man United man myself as he looks about as sturdy and reliable as a chocolate teapot. Hopefully we will steer clear of the England International or maybe take him on loan rather than forking out a large sum for a Richard Wright waiting to happen, i.e. an England keeper who’s career goes rapidly downhill the moment the media lavishes praise on him.
Finally just wanted to say what a choker it was to see us let in that last gasp equalizer at St Andrews. I saw that happen on teletext as it was the first game I have missed home or away for some time. The two dropped points gives Liverpool an incentive to push on but hopefully we can put Aston Villa to the sword next week to get us back firing on all cylinders but first we have the banana skin of a trip to Leeds which should be very tasty indeed, talking of which I had a dream that Bentley scored the winner at Elland Road, so if he is still at the club by then remember I told you so, seems unlikely that my dream has any chance of occurring as the goal he scored in my dreams was a header!

You’re right about Keane, we can afford to lose him. Bentley to score at Leeds, lets hope so.

THIS WONT HAPPEN BECAUSE YOU DONT PLAY PLAYERS WHO ARE GOING TO MOVE

It is a shape about Keane. You thought with his move to Liverpool he had his best chance to get some kind of medal. When he came back it was with the proverbial tail between the legs. He hasn’t been the same but that could be down to the partnership he had with Berbatov and how reliant he was on the Bulgarian.
I would think he could easily fetch £11M which would net us £16M in one year from Keane transfers fees.

I doubt Keane would leave……Again. He is happier there and thats why he went back.

I meant shame in the previous post not ’shape’. As for Ben Foster, he could still come good. He needs matches, he needs push the idea himself. Going from one bench to another does him no good.

Keane has lost the flair that made him a world class footballer. How or why he lost it is hard to fathom. His ego took a terrible bruising when he was forced to return to WHL and he seems to have forgotten where the opposing goal is.He does not seem to want to score!!A striker’s first ambition should be to put the ball in the opposing sides goal.Keane seems to have lost the ability and even the desire to do just that.He still talks like the striker he used to be but his protestations just make me feel sad now.I am glad he is going and I will have no more disappointments caused by his ineffectual play.

I cannot understand the negative comments on Keane he is by far the best striker we have, the trouble is he seems to be playing in other positions than his own one the weak links in the team are Crouch and Defoe as a strike pair they are no better than average and fail to finish teams off throwing a huge amount of pressure on our defence. I would like to see Keane paired with Pav who Harry has not given a fair chance to. I also the FA Cup is our best chance of Europe but only if we play Keane and Pav as a pair.
Terry.

I think Keane is getting a lot of poor comments, he came back and helped us get out of relegation last season or has everyone forgot that, he give the dressing room the lift it needed, but of course football fans have the worse memories. Jermaine Defoe has been noting short of terrible for the past five games, if you get tight on him and keep tight on him he just cant play around this, yes it was a real top strikers/poachers goal on saturday, but since he missed the penalty against everton he has been spurs worse player.

If Spurs don’t want him I would happly drive him about 3 miles, how I would laugh. I even have a chant for him to the tune of Billy Jean.

YEAH RIGHT! We need reinforcments, and we need it now!!! We will never be in this situation again, we need to sement our 4 position now! Please do something Harry!!!!!
Defenders:Good cover in every department of the defens, the only part of
the team that do seams healty
CM: Palacios:very good but what if he is injured or suspended??? and he
will=point dropped!
Hudd:good! secure with the ball, always finds out a passing
alternativ before he gets the ball + creativ. Plays well with palacios.
Jenas:Cover/not good enough.
Kranjcar:Can work with Palacios?
Modric:Can work with Palacios?
Gudjohnsen:Can work with Palacios?
Bostock:Give some subtitute apperances.
We Must, MUST have a midfield reinforcer!!!!
Midfield left:Modric:works well but only if Lennon plays right
Kranjcar:works well but only if Lennon plays right
Rose:Should be an alternativ if Lennon doesnt play, give him
some minutes.
Midfield Right:Lennon:World class! Is and attack all by himself(injured)
Bentley:Had a deasnt game yesterday, but NOT good enough!
He so incredible slow, selfish and not motivated.
By the way, his crossing isnt that good either.
Giovani:Its a mistery why he was allowed the leave on
loan now Lennon is out injured. Please, PLEASE give
him a chance Harry!
Attack:Keane:Doesnt cut it. Slow, slopy tecnique.
Defoe:Good. But seams waaaaaaaay of form
Crouch:Ok. Creats chanches for teammates
Pav:Give the man a chance!!!!
Gudjohnsen:Jury out/execting
Trust me, we NEVER will achive 4 spot with this team!
We need a midfield enforcer, goalscorer, and Lennon back is absolutly vital!

Norwegian Yid is right, we need a midfield enforcer and NOW ! That’s why we let in cheap, last-minute goals because our midfield doesn’t tighten up in the last 10-mins of a game and concedes possession time and time again, not helped by Crouch’s poor first touch. Cover goalie and midfield enforcer (Fernandes, Diarra or Muntari) and we’re done for the window, sell: Hutton, Keane, Jenas and Pav (shame but he wants to go). Then we might, I say MIGHT get 4th only IF we ighten up our midfield.

norway is right, all people say we have some of the best squad in the premier, but whye do we play that mutch worse when we make those substitutes???? jenas is crap, keane is not as he once was, and we are predictable, the same subs used in every game. keane comes in late, and jenas, and all things goes shit. and crouch is not that good, i think he should be a sub, not regular, he can never stand on those long legs, always falling around, and he almost never vinns a header. but he is one of harry`s men, and will never get dropped, and the same with defoe, poor form, never dropped. and we have bought another p`mouth player, and he is not that good, scooring a lot of own goals, or he jused to do that. and if he is that great why is`n any of the 5-6 best clubs after him? just us? i have mentioned this befor, Harry Redknapp is not the ansver to spurs ambition, he is content with 5th to 8th place in the league. he has no idea how to manage a big club like spurs. and as we play now, we will neverever get that 4th place, wait and see. now this is my opinion, so dont get totally crazy out there. i am from norway, so pardon my english. kols.
