Skysports.com understands Liverpool youngster Christopher Buchtmann is poised to join Premier League rivals Fulham.
Fulham have made a move to sign the highly-rated German in a cut-price deal as Roy Hodgson looks to bolster his squad.
Buchtmann joined Liverpool in the summer of 2008 from Borussia Dortmund and he was tipped for a big future at Anfield.
The 17-year-old was a member of Liverpool’s youth side that reached the FA Youth Cup final and he helped Germany win last summer’s European Under 17 Championship.
However, Buchtmann has failed to impress Reds boss Rafa Benitez and he has allowed the German, who can play at left-back or left midfield, to leave for Fulham. (Sky Sports)
This would be quite some move for the young German who hasn’t had any chance of a look in at Liverpool and Rafa Benitez seems more than likely to allow the youngster to leave for a fee in the region of around £2m. The left sided teenager did a cracking job in the youth team and has represented his country with distinction but appears set to leave Anfield.
A move to Craven Cottage may well be just what the youngster needs and under Roy Hodgson, one of the shrewdest and tactically astute boss’s in the Premier League, he could carve our a career for himself.

If he’s worth £2m to a Premier League club, then why are we selling him? He’s a defensive left sided player. Surely Rafa can find a place for him as our attacking right winger…

RIDICULOUS RAFA!!
Retryboy - February 1st, 2010 at 4:00 pm
This is one of the many things that i can’t stand about rafa. The difference with Wenger isn’t the quality of youngster he brings in its what happens to them afterwards particularly the levels of trust shown in them. Buchtmann is rated highly enough by his coaches at national level, uefa had him in the top 10 prospects in european football and he was great for our youth team, now all of a sudden he is deemed not worthy of any more chance for 100k ridiculous. Apparently rafa is wanting to buy tosiridos he is supposed to be flying in for a medical. Another right back to take away kelly and Darby’s chances totally. Don’t care that Kyrgiakos has had a couple of good games he should never have been bought with san jose, kelly and ayala at the club. Degen should never have been bought and should definitely have been let go before now we have johnson, kelly and Darby we don’t need him! He kept Voronin who had proved for a year that he wasn’t good enough for the premier league rather than trusting Nemeth. If it wasn’t for long term injuries to 2 players insua would never have got any chance if agger was fit at the time he would probably have been moved to LB ahead of him too. Rafa is totally anti-youth at 21 he is loaning players out at 23 they still haven’t had enough cup games to make a decision on them. Only youngsters he has given a lot of opportunity to(decent amount of match time) are the ones he has paid over £1.5million coincidence or the most important thing to rafa being proving himself right again?
anonymous - February 1st, 2010 at 4:28 pm
Surely a loan is a better option because if he does well at least he’s still our player and we can have him back.
Retryboy you have some valid points but unfortunately you keep banging on about the same things be good to hear your views on other things rather than Rafa. Think everyone knows where you stand on that and becoming a bit tedious
Retryboy - February 1st, 2010 at 4:54 pm
If he stops making stupid decisions like this that damage liverpool long term then i won’t have any complaints to make. Also everything at liverpool as at most clubs concerns the manager so its hard commenting on anything without saying if you think he is getting it right or not…kind of impossible actually
anonymous - February 1st, 2010 at 5:13 pm
retryboy
how do you know this is a stupid decision??
1. he is only 17
2.he has joined FULHAM not barcelona
3.if you know all you say about the youth players you would of realised that he hasnt done much in the last few months.
4.why do you always comment on youth players? you really need to change the subject, youve been banging on about them for months, just give it a rest. if they are good enough they will make it !!
anonymous - February 1st, 2010 at 5:34 pm
Hopefully there is a first-option/buy back clause in place as 100k is too little for him.

Give Rafa at least a little respect. He’s not this stupid. As an anon has already pointed out, the article says they “understand” that he’s moved. There is no official word, and until there is, I will not believe it.
Also if the fee is indeed 100k, then he’s moving on loan and nothing else. A kid of his reputation and talent is worth far more than 100k in transfer funds. This may in fact be a brilliant chance for him to go to another prem side and show what he can do. Which may in turn hasten his transition into the first team.
One thing is for sure, if this is a transfer then there will be a buy-back clause, so he won’t be gone for long.
Aquaman - February 1st, 2010 at 5:44 pm
Tell you what Retry. If you give Rafa the benefit of the doubt in this case, then you get to say I told you so if Buchtmann does indeed leave the club. Fair enough?

How about the owners for a change! It’s not that there are not other things to talk about you just don’t want to. You seem to know a lot about stuff that frankly you would be in no position to know unless you worked at the club!
Your views are in the minority start talking about other things and stop being so negative 100% of the time.

Retryboy - February 1st, 2010 at 7:07 pm
He he least aquaman can see a mistake when its being made. Anon 5.13 he is only 17…exactly you expect a player who has performed beyond his years to slow down in development. He has joined fulham not barcelona…doesn’t matter where he goes murphy went to fulham that was still a mistake Warnock went to Blackburn that was a mistake. Don’t get the condescending of a team that wiped the floor with us earlier in the season either. Why do i comment on youth players? Have a word! Whats the article about you plum! As you have been on here for months by your own admission why not log in before you try pulling me up on what i always say seeing as though nobody has a clue what you always say because you hide behind your anonymous wall…if they are good enough they will make it? Not for us though eh? Lot more factors involved than they have to fit Rafa’s fucked up system. Darby is the best defensively out of all our right backs won’t get any game time because he isn’t a wing back and Kuyt is played ahead of him as a defensive winger. Nemeth and pacheco’s best position doesn’t exist in a rafa formation so what hope have they got? Pacheco will be shoved out onto the wing like yossi and Kuyt get because their best positions are just off the main striker. So what would have happened to fowler under rafa? Average LM player? Because he wouldn’t have been a great lone striker probably be on loan in athens eh?

Hell of a lot more now who don’t think rafa is the best man for the job or feel comfortable in saying how they have felt for ages without being jumped all over. What has this story got to do with the owners?? Be more positive… woo hoo 100k!! That’ll pay Kuyt’s wages this week!!

Have to say I am well on Retryboy’s side here…
Buchtman is one hell of a talent and to let him go considering there are other players much worse than him, with less promise, and on higher wages…is fucking stupid.
El zhar and spearing for starters….
...samlfc.... - February 1st, 2010 at 7:21 pm
Buchtmann must be somewhat decent if he amanged to win his country the U17 championship and got our youth to the youth Fa cup final…..and i agree with Red lewis on selling El zhar but also Plessis aswell in my opinion

Be positive in a general way rather slating 24/7 and ranting that’s all your posts are about you seem to know better than everyone and you are still in the minority.
How do you know this story has got everything to do with Rafa because think I’d be right in presuming Dalglish would have had his say on this one or have you just got off the phone to him?

this is what retryboys mind thinks:
nemeth is the next pele
butchmann is the next ronaldo
pacheco is the next messi
darby is the best right back in world football ever
liverpools youth team is better than our first team
every youth player deserves a chance to play for our first team
rafa has ruined liverpool football club(even though he saved it)
he thinks he could be a better manager than rafa
warnock – not good enough to play for liverpool
murphy – decent player but seriously mate he left before benitez came u muppet?!?!?

you was in a minority 4 months ago because only the small minded liverpool fans agreed with you. last season we did well but after 2 months of the season you threw your toys out of your pram because we werent top. try being a portsmouth fan or something. you dont realise it know but you are still in a minority now with your views. again only the small minded fans agree with you. you never have a good word to say about benitez or liverpool so sling your hook. im embarased for you mate. call yourself a fan? bet you were a fan who stopped watching at half time in istanbul ehh?
while i cant argue with the fans who want a new manager now, u are a poor fan by wanting rafa out after only 6 or 7 games into a season. go support man u, thats where people like you are and you will get alot of fans agreeing with you.
Retryboy - February 1st, 2010 at 7:56 pm
Its down to the manager who stays and goes. Remember rafa has total control he killed people to get it!! You are probably breaching his contract just saying that dalglish could make a decision! I am positive, about the squad and the young talent overly enthusiastic apparently because i get slated for going on about them too much. I judge each point on its merits not from one standpoint so how can i be in any minority when everyone has different views on every subject? Why is having the most popular view so important to you? Think thats what you call a sheep. Doesn’t bother me at all if my view on a subject isn’t popular will debate it with anyone who has good points on the subject. Again don’t tell people who put their name to their posts they are constantly posting a certain way when nobody can tell if you change your opinions every game or continuously post the same things.

WHY??!!
Can’t understand this. Anyone who regularly watches the youth & reserves games knows that this lad is class. Unfortunately he’s got Mavinga ahead of him at LB in the res., who is older & more experienced. Only reason I can think of, is that he wants to play more regularly in the reserves & have a chance of progressing to the first team – at the moment Insua & Mavinga are more favoured & are still young.
As for Anon’s comment earlier about him not doing much in the last few months, none of our reserves have – there was a break from 10th Nov to 21st Jan!!!! Also the youth team had a 1 month break.
I would think that with the 2 transfer fees being talked of, we will get £100k up front, with adds ons to take the final fee to £2m. Agree with comments above – hope we have a buy back clause, as well as a % of any sell-on fee.

I have to say that I truly am gutted about this. I can’t believe that not only have we sold off one of the most exciting prosepects in EUROPE, but we sold him to Fulham. FULHAM! What the hell? Did they get him just for being cheeky enough to ask? Surely someone bigger should have been sniffing around. I just don’t understand it.
I just pray that we had the sense to write in a buy back clause…

1) If anyone makes a point that you are not in agreement with you will go to extreme lenghths to discedit the post and aggresivley attack it.
2) If livepool sell a youngster it must be for a good reason that unfortunately your not close enough to know about.
How do you not know there is a buy back clause or a sell on clause. Or that Rafa was told to sell him.
3)You have a great deal of knowledge about the youngsters and how is this gained out of interest ? do you go watch them week in week out at kirby or Tranmere or on their travels ?
4) I have seen many of the youngsters play and some are clearly not ready
Take Jay spearing, when he played against Leeds he was out of his depth Now this was not just my opinion it was many of the travelling supporters. but we know why rafa has him on the bench because he is enligsh. Thats why he has sent Eccleston out on loan watch him come good or the first team next year
When Rafa then played Jay again against sunderland, againh was out of his depth. Clearly not big or strong enough not pacey enough.
He will never make a world classs player in my and of other fans views and thats a shame because we really want him to succeed.
I’m sure you will have a direct view on this matter and attack my post like you do with everyone elses on here.
Your mate Donavan is the same in some respects. Ok we all know you pair dont like Rafa buts it the same with every post from you too. I think most people on here have had enough.
What exactly do you get out of this with your point scoring of trying to permamently to put people in there place and trip people up.
Its becomming sad i’m afraid because at times you both make some valued comments.
I await your response with bated breath

THIS.
I can see under rafa that we will end up being a squad of over 30’s AS NO YOUNG TALENT will end up wanting to come here and get destroyed by the fat f*ck spanish waiter.
NOW ANON 11:20, the only reason we go on about RAFA is because of you F*CKING soft cocks who sing his name at games, and make your pathetic in rafa I trust banners, and as such you have convinced the board and owners that we need this pathetic sh*t for brains excuse of a manager here. Well you may enjoy the piss weak negative, anti-football we play, that no doubt is because of your little understanding of the game, & your lack of intelligence to to appreciate football when it is played well.
You are happy with rafa playing defenders in attacking positions, you are happy with him destroying young talent, you are happy with him playing his brazilian rent boy in the middle every game, you are HAPPY WITH results this season, and you are unforgivably happy at how he ruined our best chance to win the title last season, so you have gotten what you wanted, this fat useless piece of crap manager, that you may be happy with, but the rest of us see him for what he is ( a pretend manager, a useless tactician), and we are NOT happy with it. SO just as you rafa lovers will continue to sign your little rafa rent boy songs, we will continue to expose him as the pathetic manager he is.

That sounds almost like an extended loan deal, although I’m not getting my hopes up. The LFC website said that “they wish him well in his future” which makes me think that they don’t intend for his future and ours to join paths again.

i think the rafa lovers are getting carried away a bit here we all support the team but that doesn’t mean we have to support the manager when he’s making such poor judgments tactically. i have faith in our squad i think we’ve got a good squad that just needs a few tweaks here and there but they are more than capable of winning the league and this really should have been our season even when alonso left i thought we would still win it and at that point i still thought rafa was capable too. all he had to do was drop gerrard to the alonso roll and yossi into the second striker role and we would have been well up there.
i know injuries have played there part but they do with every team at some point during the season so we can’t cry about that
what i don’t like is going 1-0 up then conceding 2 goals through zonal marking then last 20 mins the manager remembers he’s got three subs he can use so he does a straight swap for a defender then at 80 mins takes off one of our best attacking threats all game and then in the 89th minute uses his last sub.
it’s as if he has so little faith in his squad that he doesn’t dare let them of the leash, i’m not that against his 4-5-1 formation but he always plays more of a ridgid 4-2-3-1 i would rather he played 4-1-4-1 and let our lads play attacking football with 1dm holding, 2 acm pushing up, two proper wingers whiping in crosses from out wide and interchanging causing the full back hell and torres up top but getting loads of support from the 2 attacking mids. if other fans are happy to carry on playing the mediocre football we are at the minute losing to teams like portsmouth and reading and drawing with wolves then thats up to you. we want to start playing proper football and winning games and winning silverware something we’ve not done for far too long.
you all need to stop living in the past and going on about stuff we won 5 years ago too, it doesn’t count for shit now winning the CL 5 years ago doesn’t get us qualified for next years comp winning games and getting a top4 finish does or winning the europa cup and i’m not sure we’re gonna do either. you make me sick going on about we’ve not lost in 6 like its something to be proud of you pricks and you say its us that should support another team!
