Now Boro have accepted the offer – which as the second improved bid from City – for Johnsonand he is now on his way to the North East to discuss personal terms.
Johnson, 22, will now look to complete a medical and agree personal terms before the 5pm deadline, but it now looks as if Johnson will be the latest big-name departure from Boro. (Sky Sports)

In the end it appears that Middlesbrough realised that it was better to cash in on Adam Johnson now rather than allow him to leave for a fee to be decided by a tribunal in the summer. The impressive England Under 21 international has shown his ability in the top flight before but was always battling to win his place ahead of Stewart Downing and when he left for Aston Villa the stage was left for Johnson to show what he could do and he has been in wonderful form in the Championship this term and has added goalscoring ability to his list of attributes.
Roberto Mancini will be looking to give the youngster a taste of first team football but may initially opt to use the 22 year old sparingly and will also be glad to add more ‘homegrown’ talent with the new Premier League guidelines set to kick in. The fee for Johnson is reportedly said to be around the £7m mark.
