Football - Manchester United v Hull City Barclays Premier League

I have heard from a not totally disreputable source today that there was an outside chance that a certain Michael Owen.may well be on his way to Liverpoool. Ridiculous? Perhaps not. Sir Alex Ferguson has apparently lost faith in the bit part striker and he could be willing to allow the England international leave rather than continue to have his large wage packet on their payroll.

The former Anfield hero hasn’t exactly flopped at Old Trafford so not sure why Sir Alex is ready to let 30 year old. He has started just nine matches but has weighed in with seven goals. Rafa could clearly do with another attacking option and can not afford to splash the cash so why not make a move for the former Real Madrid and Newcastle United man?

The Merseyside club is clearly to dependent on Fernando Torres and David Ngog is still very wet behind the ears but beginning to grow into a potentially decent striker. Benitez has targeted the likes of Kenwyne Jones and Roman Pavlychenko but have been baulked by the valuations of both hence a move for the cheaper and perhaps more prolific option of Michael Owen.

Would Liverpool fans welcome such a move?
