Football - Manchester City v Paris St Germain UEFA Cup Group Stage Matchday Four

Skysports.com understands that West Ham United and Portsmouth have made late contact with Paris St Germain striker Mateja Kezman.

The former Chelsea man has recently returned to the French capital after a loan spell at Zenit St Petersburg but does not feature in the plans of Antoine Kombouare.

West Ham are in the market for strikers after missing out on Ruud van Nistelrooy and Eidur Gudjohnsen and are therefore thought to have made enquiries, despite an imminent deal for Benni McCarthy.
The Hammers’ Premier League relegation rivals Portsmouth are also believed to have approached Kezman with a view to securing additional attacking options.

Any move would come late on transfer deadline day but the 30-year-old would bring experience of England’s top flight. (Sky Sports)

Gianfranco Zola is desperate to add more options to his somewhat blunted attack and now appears to be looking into bringing in something of a surprise signing. Talented Serbian international Mateja Kezman disappeared off the radar somewhat after his one and only season at Chelsea was spent largely watching on from the subs bench as Jose Mourinho led the Stamford Bridge side to the title.

After a year in the Premier League the impish striker has been something of a journeyman striker and has taken in spells in Spain, Turkey, Russia and now France since but could well welcome a return to the English top tier to prove that there is still life in the old dog.

The 30 year old Belgrade born finisher can be pretty lethal on his day and a move to Upton Park could be a smart one all round and would help West Ham to pull away from the danger zone. Clearly Zola is well acquainted with Mateja having played alongside Kezman during his Chelsea spell and that relationship could kill off any hopes of Portsmouth beating the east London side to the punch.
