Arsenal midfielder and captain Cesc Fabregas is set to rejoin Barcelona in the summer. The 22-year-old Spaniard is contracted to the Gunners until the end of the 2013/2014 campaign but is unhappy with the team’s lack of ambition. (Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo)
Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo claims this morning that Cesc Fabregas has decided to leave Arsenal and will re-join Barcelona in the summer in a headline article titled “Bye bye Arsenal.”
The Spanish schemer reportedly made the decision after Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United on Sunday and Fabregas has told close friends that six seasons are enough in London and he wants to return to Barcelona.
El Mundo Deportivo add that Cesc Fabregas had personally decided to push through the transfer unlike last summer where he left an exit from Arsenal in the hands of his agent Darren Dein. He believes he has given everything for the cause at Arsenal and is now ready for a more ambitious adventure.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta tried to lure Fabregas to the Nou Camp last summer but the move was blocked by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. The 22-year-old midfielder is contracted to the Gunners until the end of 2013/2014.
Laporta has now targeted binging Fabregas to Barcelona as his key project before he leaves office at the end of the season. The major stumbling block is expected to be the fee, the Spanish champions are willing to pay 40 million euros whilst Arsenal are looking for a fee of 50 million. (IMScouting)
Yes the transfer window closed just a few short hours ago but already Barcelona are starting to use their newspaper friends at EL Mundo Deportivo to help try to sew some discord at the Emirates. In another blatant attempt to unsettle the Arsenal skipper it has been ‘revealed’ that Cesc Fabregas has had enough and will definitely pack his bags and head for the Nou Camp this summer.
Now clearly this goes against just about every repeated quote from the Spanish international stating that he is actually very happy at the Gunners and has no intention of leaving the north London club. It seems the consistent stone thrown at Arsenal in the issue of any player supposedly looking to leave the club comes in the form of a ‘lack of ambition” and this really makes my blood boil. What does it even mean? Its not like the club looks to finish the season with no silverware and its not that Arsene Wenger has not been given a decent amount of cash to invest in players, so where does this idea come from?
People forget that Wenger has been backed in the transfer market pretty consistently over the past few years. In the five and half years since Arsenal lifted the Premier League trophy in season 03/04 Arsene has spent £102m and thats hardly chicken feed.
Something really must be done to prevent Barcelona from continuously trying to tap up Fabregas and you can guarantee that if an English club so frequently flouted the rules they would be punished accordingly. Anyway Pepe Guardiola and co. can just give it up as Cesc isn’t going anywhere for some time yet.
