Celtic have confirmed the signing of Tottenham striker Robbie Keane on loan until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international is travelling to Glasgow on Monday evening and will be presented at a media conference at 2300 GMT.
Keane has been consistently linked with a move to the club he is known to have supported as a boy.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said: “He needs to be playing and to go to Celtic is a dream come true for him.”
Celtic had already added Diomansy Kamara from Fulham on loan and Morten Rasmussen from Brondby during January to bolster their strike force. And the Keane deal followed Australia international Scott McDonald’s transfer to Middlesbrough, which was completed minutes before the closure of the 1700 GMT deadline for incoming transfers in England.
Fellow striker Chris Killen had moved from Celtic to the Riverside earlier in the transfer window.
Keane, a lifelong Celtic fan, has made 25 appearances for Spurs this season but has recently been confined to the substitutes’ bench.
“It’s a good move. He is a Celtic man,” Redknapp said of the switch for the Republic international team’s captain and all-time top scorer with 41 goals in almost 100 games.
“Robbie needs to play. He’s too good a player not to be starting here regularly. He wants to play all the time.
“It’s been difficult to guarantee Robbie a starting place at the moment. (BBC Sport)
This is a move that appears to suit all parties. The White Hart Lane man was in danger of finding himself warming the bench for the remainder of the season but has now secured himself on a loan deal at a club he clearly has an affinity with.
If he does well he could well secure a permanent move or perhaps more likely by moving to Parkhead he may attract the interest of more suitors.
It is clear that the Robbie Keane who returned from Liverpool is not the same man who was something of a Spurs cult hero. He appears to have lost some of his pace and movement but that being said he has still managed to score nine times this term in 18 starts and is sure to be a prolific marksman in the SPL.
