Carlo Ancelotti said last night that he is willing to give John Terry a break to solve his marriage problems as Chelsea’s hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Hull City was overshadowed by the continuing furore surrounding the England captain.

Terry was abused repeatedly and his every touch of the ball was jeered by home fans in his second appearance since allegations of an affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of his England and one-time Chelsea team-mate, Wayne Bridge, were made public.

It was also revealed that Chelsea had recruited additional security to control the hordes of paparazzi outside the team hotel.

Terry, 29, has yet to request compassionate leave, although it has been suggested that he could be excused Chelsea’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at home to Cardiff City on February 13 to spend time with his wife, Toni, who has flown to Dubai.

Ancelotti did not discourage such a notion, although giving his captain time off at such an important stage of the season would be risky, particularly if a long-haul flight was involved.

Chelsea are away to Everton in the Barclays Premier League next Wednesday before welcoming Cardiff to Stamford Bridge three days later, but then have a free midweek before a league match away to Wolverhampton Wanderers and the resumption of their Champions League campaign, against Inter Milan.

“It’s an issue for me and John Terry,” Ancelotti, the Chelsea manager, said. “If he needs holiday, he will have holiday. If not, he will play against Cardiff.

“I’ve not had any conversation with him yet. For him nothing changes and he continues to play a very good game. Every game he’s living a very good moment and every game he is doing his best. (Times Online)

I sincerely doubt that John Terry will look to take more than a few days off from Chelsea Football Club as they clearly mean the world to him. The fact that any break coincides with an FA Cup game only help matters as clearly that is a lesser competition for the west London side and gives the England man a chance to go and visit his wife, but god only knows how that will go down.

Can you imagine it. He turns up with a bouquet of flowers and a dozen paparazzi in tow. Clearly his relationship with his wife is doomed, at least that should be the case if she has any self respect.
