Barcelona vice-president Alfons Godall is convinced that Cesc Fabregas will come back to the club at some point in the future.
Fabregas progressed through the youth ranks at Camp Nou before signing for Arsenal in 2003.
He has developed into one of the finest midfielder in world football under Arsene Wenger and has always stressed that he is committed to the Gunners.
However, speculation over a return to Spain has never been far away despite the fact that Arsenal would fight hard to keep such an important player.
Real Madrid are understood to be interested in snapping up Fabregas but Godall expects him to end up at Barca.
Reports suggest the Catalan giants are planning a £40million summer swoop for the Spain international.
Godall, who hopes to succeed Joan Laportaas president, believes that even if Fabregas does not make the move at the end of this season he will one day return to Barcelona.
“Sooner or later Cesc will end up coming back,” Godall said in The Sun.
“We are a club that can sign players because we are respected and solvent.” (Sky Sports)
Oh here we go again. This time its a prospective Barcelona president who looks to further his reputation by claiming that Cesc Fabregas will leave the Emirates to join the Catalan giants sooner or later. This is a standard tactic of someone looking to land the top job at the Nou Camp, this tactic involves promising to land all and sundry in the hopes that it will lead to the candidate getting enough votes to secure the president’s position.
Its clear that UEFA will never do anything about this blatant attempt at tapping up. Can you imagine for instance if Arsene Wenger said in a statement “I know we will sign Wayne Rooney, sooner or later he will join us” the Premier League would slap a fine or some sort of ban within minutes and Sir Alex would quite rightly be miffed.
Cesc is going nowhere.
Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic claims he has agreed a deal to join Arsenal in the summer after snubbing interest from other Premier League clubs.
Savic has recently been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium and says he will sign a pre-contract with Arsene Wenger’s side later this week to join from BSK Borca.
The 19-year-old also claims Birmingham City and Tottenham Hotspur were keen on a deal, but he is looking forward to the opportunity to play for Wenger.
He told Serbian newspaper Blic: “There were offers from Tottenham and Birmingham, but once a call came from Arsenal, I had no more doubts.
“Wenger made sure my papers were arranged for me and my work permit extended so I can be at more training sessions.
“He is the man. He has incredible authority at the club, everyone listens to him, assistants lead training sessions and he just supervises. Nothing can escape him.”
Savic added: “A pre-contract will be signed on Thursday and then I will return to Belgrade and join BSK for their preparations.
“I will be staying with BSK until May.”
The centre-half has five Under 21 caps and, if the deal goes through, his arrival will go some way to softening the blow of missing out on Chris Smalling, who opted to instead join Manchester United. (Sky Sports)
Now lets see if this does indeed get confirmed but if it does get the green light then it would be a good addition to our squad and another up and coming centre back would come in handy, and its always good to see us trump Tottenham to anyone. It was a shame we didn’t get Chris Smalling and I was surprised when he opted for a move to Old Trafford. The Fulham man would probably found a place in our first team sooner than at United simply because Arsene likes to throw people in at the deep end and the England Under 21 man may find himself waiting quite some time to get a run in the Man United set up.

Even if he will eventually go back i hope Cesc is sensible and committed enough to not do it this season. He has plenty of time, age wise, on his side and I cannot see Barca making it a now or never situation. Even if he turns them down for 2 more seasons do you really think they will say then “No sorry Cesc you had your chance and it is over now”. They will still snap him up like a shot if he says he wants to move.
The pros, for him, of going this summer are that he is a catalan lad and that Barca, right here and now in their respective league, are slightly ahead of the gunners in terms of prospects for immediate trophies. That slight superiority, however, could all be so different by the end of this season and if not certainly next season. I know many Arsenal fans are disappointed currently, compounded more by the weekends result, but I still feel this team is very close.
On the negative side, going there in an election season means you are not really certain where you stand. You could be more of a pawn than anything and despite Barca saying they can accomodate him Xavi and Iniesta you can’t help thinking that they will rotate playing 2 of the three at any given time. Cesc has always appeared very switched on and I am sure the election thing will have crossed his mind. At Arsenal he is the first name down on the team sheet and runs the show, and i think is still improving under wenger. In another couple of years Xavi will top 30 and it would then make sense to bring Cesc in as the main man with Xavi backing up but with less games in a season. Also out of respect to Arsenal at that point Ramsey will be more likely ready to permanently fill his boots meaning his departure does not set us back 2 years.
Despite all this I hope Cesc stays forever but am realistic enough to understand the lure of your boyhood club, but I hope he is sensible enough to put it off for at least another couple of seasons.

I might be the only Gooner who thinks that this might be a good thing for the TEAM! £40mill is alot of money and with the sales of other players who need to leave like Almunia/Senderos/Eboue/Clichy Wenger will have some kitty for bringing in much needed defensive players to stop us leaking goals! We score for fun and and we have a fantastic foundation at the club even without Cesc! Lukasz/Vermealen/Djourou/Gibbs/Sagna/Song/Ramsey/Diaby/Denilson/Nasri/Walcott/Arshavin/RVP/Bentdner/Eduardo/Vela, plus the likes of Bartley/Lansbury/Wilshere all developing nicely. Add some new faces with the money…Lloris/Subotic/V.de Wiel/Gonalons/Remy, 4 of these players are all defensive minded players and all over 6ft!!! With Wenger still buying youth for the future..Savic/Galindo/Wellington, we could be a strnger outfit and squad!!!

Hmm arsene wenger has to realise that buying young payers alone is not enought if he carries on doing this.Winning the premier league would far from reach and just a dream.

We got 40 million last season by t sale of toure n adebayor… but wenger dint do nythin wit t money… T money’s useless unless its spent… just sellin fabregas 2 fill t board members pockets makes no sense watsoevr….
so we’re better off holdin onto him rather than sellin him…
besides cesc in t kind of form he is in currently is worth much more than 40 million… u pay 50 million for karim benzema who’s rarely doin much for real n u say cesc’s worth 40 million??? wat a joke…
he’s of t same level as kaka n ronaldo… maybe even better… he deserves to command somethin more than 60 million atleast… but if i were wenger i wud hav asked for half of barca’s young squad plus 100 million for fabregas’s services…
its simple… u want cesc badly u gotta pay a price 4 it… it aint gonna b as simple as “STEALIN” an Henry from our club…not nymore….

Great, another signing for the summer…Too bad we have half a season of football left. Arsene, your ways dont work and I’m praying we get blown out by chelseas this weekend and it starts the end of the wenger tenure. THere were good times, but the man is too thick headed now and wont spend money, therefore wont win. Ive had enough of beautiful football that always loses. I’d rather play ugly football and win trophies

If Feb goes blame AW.He shd have bought more established players like Vermallen instead of cast offs.
Arsenal are suffering because of his ego at playing pretty soocer only to be beaten.

Savic has played 8 games since 2008 so this is going to be another kid with zero experience.
People were saying a new Vidic but Vidic played 4-5 years with Red Star before going to Russia and starring there for a few years. He arrived in EPL in the prime of his career.
This kid is green and of no use for the foreseeable future..

cesc is a great player,i put my money on him to win big things and to become footballer of the year at some stage.I would not blame him if he were to leave for barca cos arsenal do not help him in anyway,i.e by not buying players on the same level and with that hunger and eagerness to win.The top players are going to start all leaving one by one.might as well put the whole first team up for sale and play the youngsters, that will give them good experience,as well as keep arsenal running smoothly.cesc 50 mill, thomas verm,20mill,eboue,5mill,clichy 10mill,almunia 5mill,eduardo 10mill,vanpersie 15mill,arshavin 20 mill,e.t.c,.
