Chelsea have had their transfer ban lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after reaching an agreement with Lens over the signing of Gael Kakuta.
A statement on the Cas website said that the two clubs and the player had accepted the player’s contract with the French side was not valid.
Thus Kakuta could not have terminated it prematurely, so Chelsea could not be liable for inducing it to be breached.
The Cas said all parties agreed the proceedings would remain confidential.
In September 2009, Fifa’s Dispute Resolution Chamber imposed a four-month ban on the player and banned Chelsea from registering any new players in the next two transfer windows over the case.A statement on the club website from chairman Bruce Buck said Chelsea were glad to have resolved the matter amicably.
“It was always our intention to work together with Lens to reach this end, and both clubs have strengthened their relationship as a result of resolving this case to everyone’s satisfaction,” he said.
“In an act of good faith and with a view to the possibility of future collaboration with Lens, and without recognising any liability, Chelsea has agreed to pay compensation costs for the training given to the player while at Lens, as mandated by Fifa in its original ruling.” (BBC Sport)
So there you have it. It appears that FIFA acted a little swiftly in dishing out the original ban in the first place. It seems that the world governing body acted in its usual anti-English bravado and accused Chelsea of an offence they were clearly never guilty of in the first place.
Now Chelsea are free to buy all and sundry but the question is do they really need to? Top of the Premier League and firing on all cylinders in the Champions League, what more could Carlo Ancelotti want? Apart from of course a little less paparazzi attention directed at his club captain that is.

predictable reaction so far, “nasty chelsea get away with everything”
i am not a chelsea fan by the way
i said as soon as the ban was issued that fifa had jumped the gun and tried to act tough without a legal leg to stand on.
they cannot make a retrospective law and punish someone for something that actually “seems” bad for the game… and if the french clubs still have beef they should take it up with their governments on how and when they can issue contracts. i dnt see the clubs complaining when it saves them money by not having to pay a promising teenager …
yes, chelsea acted morally wrong and used their status and money to woo a young man. but it wasnt against any rules
blame fifa and the government, not chelsea

Chelsea too powerful for Fifa

Clearly the case against Chelsea was very weak and was an impulse intended to hurt the club as an example to other English clubs,
1. There was no legal contract between Lens and Kakuta.
2. Eufa approved the signing.
3. This happened 2 years before the actual rules were implemented.
4. Fifa were clearly using personal vendettas instead of profesional genuine rules.
Heads must now roll at Fifa for wasting everybodys time and money and not to mention for bringing FIfa and the game into disrepute.
