Real Madrid To Make Move For Liverpool’s Rafael Benitez – Report
Madrid have supposedly set their sights on Liverpool gaffer Rafa…

The future of Rafa Benitez at Liverpool appears to be in doubt following the club’s disappointing results this term. Benitez is continually being linked with a move away from Anfield and initially appeared to be on his way to Juventus.

However, La Vecchia Signora eventually decided to go for Alberto Zaccheroni instead. This doesn’t mean the speculation about Benitez have come to an end though, as Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu now appears to be his next destination.

A report from England claims that Real president Florentino Perez isn’t too happy with the results under current head coach Manuel Pellegrini. Therefore, Pellegrini could be replaced by Benitez at the end of the season.

However, it appears to be very unlikely that Real will go for the Liverpool boss if they indeed decide to part company with Pellegrini.

Benitez not only has a bad relationship with technical director Jorge Valdano, but the former Valencia chief is not exactly known for his attracting style of football either. The Real Madrid fans are likely to be unhappy with an appointment of the 49-year-old Benitez should it arise. (Goal.com)

It does seem that Manuel Pellegrini could be set for the chop even though he hasn’t exactly done that badly at the Bernabeu helm. Rafa has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past and his Anfield future does hang in the balance but again this, like the Juventus link, will probably all come to a head in the summer depending on whether the Liverpool boss has secured us a top four spot.

We are on a decent run of results at the moment and we are managing to pull ourselves through games to get three points where previously we were throwing away such games and we are making up ground on the likes of Tottenham and I think the real team to look out for is Manchester City.

Manchester City are planning for another huge summer of spending, and top of their shopping list appears to be Athletic Bilbao star Javi Martinez.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been impressing in La Liga, and reports in Spain suggest City boss Roberto Mancini is prepared to meet the £26m buy out clause in his contract.
Bilbao paid £5.2m for the player when he was just 17, and he helped the Basque club to last season’s Spanish Cup final.

City are keen to further strengthen their midfield, as they look to further improve, and Spanish newspaper AS reports that Martinez could be on his way to Eastlands later this year.
Liverpool were reported to have been interested in signing Martinez last summer as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, but the move never materialized.

Martinez is the captain of the Spain under-21 side and is expected to play for the senior side in the future.
City supporters will be hoping the club build on this season, and make a concerted effort to win the league title next term. (Daily Mail)

Manchester City can clearly beat us to the punch on a financial level but the fact that we have many of Javi’s fellow countrymen and with Rafa at the helm may help us make a move for a player we have been after for some time. Martinez has been linked with a move to Liverpool for about a year now and he was seen as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso and arguably we still haven’t filled that position effectively but the asking price is a bit steep for a relatively inexperienced player.

Dynamo Moscow ready to increase offer for Liverpool star
Yossi Benayoun is still on Dynamo Moscow’s radar

Yossi Benayoun has been named in Liverpool’s squad for the Europa League, despite being linked with a move to Dynamo Moscow.

The Russian transfer window is open until their domestic season starts in March, and Dynamo claim they have already agreed terms with the Israeli international.

Apparently, Liverpool have already rejected a bid of £7m from the Russian club who are said to be ready to up their offer to £8m. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)

So the transfer window may be shut but Yossi’s future is still unclear. My heart says he is going nowhere for the time being. Rafa won’t want to allow any of the squad to leave as he looks to press on with getting something from what has thus far been a very rocky season. Come the summer Benayoun may reassess his position and a lot will depend on how regularly the Israeli is called upon. I also think that if the talented attacking midfielder does leave he will stay in the Premier League and there would be no shortage of offers for a player of his ability. I can only hope that Rafa begins to realise just how effective a player he can be when called upon.
