Manchester United are reportedly planning a last ditch bid to sign Spanish youngster Sergio Canales.
The 18-year-old youngster has been linked with a string of clubs during the January transfer window, and it appeared that Real Madrid were on the verge of signing the player. But fresh reports suggest Manchester United are preparing a final offer in a bid to land the player in-front of the Spanish giants.
A complicated contract is set to expire in the summer, but it seems unlikely that Canales will leave current club Racing Santader for free. The Racinguistas are believed to be after a fee in the region of £10 million, and would also like the attacking midfielder back on loan in the 2010/11 season. Sir Alex Ferguson was reportedly very close to sealing the deal to bring Sergio Canales to Old Trafford in the January transfer window but it then appeared that Manchester United had been beaten to the punch by Real Madrid but the deal to bring the Racing Santander attacking midfielder to the Bernabeu also appears to have fallen through, giving the Premier League side hope to securing the services of the player dubbed the Spanish ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’.
Ferguson seems keen to bring in new talent for the future and after nabbing Fulham centre back Chris Smalling on the sly whilst no one was looking he then turned his attentions to Canales who has developed quite a name for himself and shows great promise for such a young player.
The teenager can play across the midfield but apparently excels when out wide and the impish Spanish Under 19 International has been in terrific form in what is only his second La Liga season and has been targeted by Europe’s elite and Sir Alex will be keen to beat off the competition to the youngster’s signature.
