Liverpool vs Reading

Liverpool’s bid to sign Standard Liege forward Milan Jovanovic could be under threat after his agent claimed there were a number of other clubs interested.

The Merseysiders were believed to be on the brink of securing a pre-contract agreement with the Serbia international, whose deal with the Belgian club expires in the summer.

However, the 28-year-old’s agent Zoran Stojadinovic claims the player’s future has yet to be decided, with reports suggesting Valencia were in advanced talks.

“There are many possibilities,” Stojadinovic told Spanish newspaper Superdeporte.

“The situation will be resolved soon, but he has not signed for any club as yet.

“There is plenty of interest from Spain, but there are also a number of clubs from across Europe that remain keen.”

Despite concerns a deal for a player Rafael Benitez has tracked for some time may be in doubt, the Liverpool manager has more pressing matters to deal with, mainly the 213th Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday. (Indpendent)

So we thought we more or less had him but now his agent decides to try the old “everyone wants him so you better offer him more” tactic. Given that Jovanovic has already reportedly been offered a three year £10m deal to move to Anfield I don’t see any reason we would up the offer. I would imagine that such an offer is ten times what he is getting in Belgium so if I were the Serbian I wouldn’t allow my agent to potentially screw up a dream move! That being said we are still at the head of the queue for the striker and he could well turn out to be a good value addition to our striking options.

Lokomotiv Moscow out to derail rival bid for Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun

Lokomotiv Moscow have joined city rivals Dinamo in the pursuit of Liverpool’s Yossi Benayoun, despite Rafa Benitez being reluctant to sell.
The Russian clubs claim they have agreed personal terms with Benayoun’s agent and that a £7.5million offer is on the table for the Israel midfielder.

Russia’s transfer window is open until the end of the month but with England’s closed Benitez knows he would not be able to buy a replacement. (Daily Mail)

All is Yossi needs is reassurance from Rafa that he is needed and apparently the Liverpool boss did just that recently and has also stated before the transfer window shut that he had no intention of selling the Israeli so hopefully the mercurial attacking midfielder is going nowhere.

Now onto the Merseyside derby tomorrow. I can hardly wait but Everton are sure to be no pushovers and the Toffees haven’t lost since we beat them ten games ago and David Moyes has managed to travel to both Chelsea and Arsenal since then and didn’t lose either battle. That being said we are also on a great run and will hopefully do the business. Dirk Kuyt to score a hat-trick?
