A match of many talking points as Anfield played host to a blood and thunder Merseyside derby. As predicted the referee was busy all afternoon taking names but he appeared to have made an error in sending off Greek international Sotirios Kyrgiakos was given a red card for his part in a horror tackle that should probably have seen Marouane Fellaini sent off too.
Despite their numerical disadvantage Liverpool had two great chances to take the lead in the first half and Dirk Kuyt put the home side ahead early in the second half after Steven Gerrard puts in a top quality corner into the box which the in form Dutchman heads in for his 50th Liverpool goal.
The Reds held on to clinch another vital three points in their race to regain their place in the top four after a determined performance at Anfield after playing most of the match with ten men. To add insult to injury Steven Pienaar saw red, possibly a lot later than he should have done, in the dying seconds for a pointless tackle on Lucas.

Finally, our luck has turned. Atkinson was atrocious, worst performance by a referee this season and we have seem some shit. Despite his ineptitude, the lads were able to put in a performance big on heart and more than worthy of our adulation. Dirk Fucking Kuyt is a Liverpool Legend. To all of his naysayers, please learn something from this afternoon. GET THE FUCK IN!!!!

Pienaar fouled gerrard and could of broke mascheranos leg with that challenge! should of been sent off alot earlier.
10 men and still beat them we fully deserved that win!!!!
Every single one of our players worked hard today everton where playing crap and fouling people all pver the pitch.

Fucking pienaar’s challenge was twice as bad as Kyrgiakos’ was total war zone first half lol loved it! Always the beauty of a Stevie g hardcore tackle and he put in about 3! Great game, Atkinson atrocious as many times before. I believe, he was trying very hard not to appear favouring the home side, and he succeeded. How he could avoid giving Fellaini red or at least yellow for a high tackle on Mascherano is beyond me.
Many outstanding performances, but it was one of those, we lose together, we win together games. Should continue to build the team spirit, we are still awaiting 2 tough games against Arsenal and Man City. Let’s celebrate this and continue supporting the team and its servants. Rafa, with all all his imperfections, never lost his team, they’re playing with maximum effort for him.

Rane you had a pop at me for no reason i responded seeing as though calling Kuyt a poacher is far from an insult. Sorry for calling you a thick irish twat an over reaction. As for the team i put out was quality! I recognised like rafa did and the commentators pointed out Everton were a different prospect and the need for agger straight back in there and the need for a quick striker to carry the threat. Rodriguez played the whole game. So got more right than most actually anyway enjoy the win like i am

Most beautiful ugly win I’ve seen in a long time!
RyanO, can’t question tactics after such a win? OK, fair enough. But having a go at Lucas is always fair game…. The Kyriakos red came all of a sudden, so I went back and looked at it in slow mo… sure enough, Lucas made a complete mockery of midfield play leading up to that tackle. Fine he’s given a poor ball, a three-hopper, but in the same circumstance you could easily see
- Xavi playing it one touch up the wing to Masch
- Masch controlling it and creating space for himself
- Kuyt passing backward safely
Instead Lucas takes a horrid touch and then falls to the back foot? How can anyone watch this guy and think he belongs in the EPL, let alone LFC?
Thankfully Kuyt bailed us out. Something he’s been doing quite a lot of. Retry is right, he’s much better the poacher than the winger… but damn Retry you developed quite the hair trigger.
Mascherano was so good at right back, leaves me wondering why we don’t play him there and Gerrard and Aquilani up the middle until Johnson returns… Hah, like that will ever happen.

Mascherano played RB couple of seasons ago and it lost us the game he was shocking totally different to today but today wasn’t any tactical battle or normal game was a total war zone and loved every minute of it! Rush was a poacher, lineker was a poacher its not a derogatory comment!! Its just a style of play…players who do their best work around the 6 yard box and have that knack of being in the right place at the right time. He would get opportunities like that in OPEN play if he were used in a strike partnership with wingers.

he’s apologised for the irish jibe so let it go! and kuyt is a poacher and should be played up front not as a winger. good result considering going a man down and good to see city result too, that 4th spot looks more possible now just need to keep grinding out results and hope rafa lets them off the leash like back end of last season when we went for it and played proper attacking football i think if he does 4th if a definate but if he carries on been mr.cautious then it could slip away from us.
either way i still think rafa should be gone at the end of season but well done lads

Dear Retryboy and some others, you miss the point. TOGETHER we stand and fall. This negative tripe is not the Liverpool Way. Attacking our own, whether it be players, fans or supporters is a poor show.
Retryboy you come out with your point’s of view. Valid? Not always but your points get put across – this is a discussion forum after all. But when you I see your name dotted around, it kinda’ grinds me down, ’cause we know how you react to other points of view other than your own.
Reacting like your do ie, being abusive etc. is just childish and most unlike the Liverpool Way I have come to know and love. Surely you can construct a meaningful argument without resorting to personal attacks.
How does anybody else feel?

at the end of the day mate playing such shit football isn’t the liverpool way neither is going into games and setting up to not lose, we play with such fear of even the worst opponents and as for airing our dirty laundry in public and using the fans in some personal power struggle with our pathetic owners thats not exactly the liverpool way and neither is accepting a manager is good enough because he won us a couple of trophys with an inherited team 5 years ago

Retry, you need to hire a PR firm. A while back you were making daft comments and getting all wrapped around the axel. Then you improve but keep taking arrows. Now you come on today and make a perfectly sensible comment about Kuyt being a poacher not a winger and somehow manage to get into a slur-fest yet again. Just let the anon comments slide…
Here, I’ll test you by saying something to piss you off:
“Ryan Babel was a completely useless second half addition today and was even more ineffective than Davin N’gog all alone upfront, once again proving that it’s not that Rafa hasn’t “found” his natural position, but that the boy is “lost” on the pitch wherever he plays.”
Now, here’s what you do. Take a deep breath, try not to slander my Irish heritage and say something funny like “Nah, Rafa just needs to Tweet him instructions, that’s all.”

Baggins-i’m just not sly about the way i do things, say what i think and stand by it will debate things properly just some people can’t accept us having a different view and can’t enjoy a victory without throwing in now we have to trust rafa! Err no. Wasn’t any tactical genius or great football played was a hard fought well won battle and as i’m sure is the case with you wasn’t one thing or one game that turned me against rafa like you say i do put things across quite strongly if i feel i’m being attacked lol gotta give you that. Redrum-Babel like ngog didn’t have any chance was 2 banks of four he worked hard though. You can’t really judge either striker when all we were doing after the goal was rightly saying to Everton come break us down then mostly just laughing at their feeble attempts to do so. You can criticise a striker for not taking chances bit hard to criticise the strikers when there were no chances in the game from open play only kuyts goal how did i do redrum come on gotta be a c+ at least lol normally just ignore the anons bugs on match day though that they haven’t got 1 single thing to contribute about the game and they simply do come on here just to try and get a reaction and score points then try saying they are real fans lol.

Dear Baggins09:
I’m quoting from your post today: “I agree trading insults is a big no no, but so is watching one stuborn man refuse to see and make changes which are so blatantly obvious…..”
I assume you are talking about Rafa being stubborn etc What are the changes which are so blatantly obvious to you. Could you be more specific, please enlighten us about the meaning of this paragraph.
“….at the end of the day mate playing such shit football isn’t the liverpool way neither is going into games and setting up to not lose, we play with such fear of even the worst opponents…..” Playing shit football isn’ our way, it is isn’t ManU, Arsenal, Real Madrid way either. However smart coaches are always playing according to opposition and their own (healthy) players they have .What are you exactly reccomending we do. Rafa tightened the defence over the last seven games and the team produced 17 points. We are still missing Torres, Johnson, Benny. Stevie G., Carra, Aquilani, other previously injured boys are rounding into form. We have been grinding the results and are playing better and better. Do you suggest we would play Arsenal style to get points for style? Did you see Arsenal getting smashed by Man U. by playing naive style, allowing Rooney run rampant up and down field. It was pretty to watch, especially Almunia digging the ball out oif his own net.
At the moment we don’t have horses to entertain you, we have The Kuyt’s Brigade, leaving everything they have on the field and showing the old spirit is back and thriving. I, and many others I’d suggest are happy watching this. If you insist on “le belle football” you may have to wait a bit longer, I am afraid.

why on earth are u sticking up for SPOTA? i dont hate rafa and never will do. i hate alex ferguson and david moyes. this man brought the european cup to anfield! i bet spota didnt hate him then did he? i bet spota didnt hat him last year when we went to old trafford and smashed them did he?? just because we have had a bad season (and i have had my doubts about rafa) there is no need to say that. i have said that it may be time for a change of manager but not once have i said i hate rafa! yes we all complain about his tactics but if we win the premiership next year and the european cup the next year even that is not good enough for some fans (retry). imagine supporting portsmouth and be fighting to even be a club? eh? some fans need to realise that even though liverpool should be in a better position you have to carry on and pull together.

Sorry Issac but Spota is a Liverpool supporter as is almost everyone else on this site is and he and you have different opinions which is by all means exceptable. but we should respect each others opinions….
again i don’t want to have a bad argument as i do respect your opinion and views. hopefully you do to mine aswell as we are slightly different in our views.
and before you go Samlfc i bet your a rafa hater NO! i’m not but i’m also not his biggest fan either.
he is a good manager but i will wait till summer till i choose whether to back him or not.
i do infact think Serie A would be perfect match for him though.

Well it was a battling display from the lads today, only what I would have expected considering the opposition…. It wasn’t a great display by any stretch of the Imagination and by what sort of knock down drawn out fight it became I would have to say for once Rafa got this one spot on…..
I will add a word of caution, this does by no means saying that we have turned any sort of corner yet, after all this was a Merseyside derby and you would expect no lesser performance from the Players…… Well done lads

some fans dont realise that we were playing with ten men for an hour?? that is a great result in any match to be down to ten men and to go on to win the match is fantastic. oh and it was a derby witch makes it even harder. oh and we were without the best striker in the world? not a bad result even if it wasnt pretty!
i just think that alot of fans on here are too negative. and if we lose to arsenal in the week there will be many fans on here saying “rafa should go” and being totally naive. in our last seven games we have let 1 goal in!! that is great form!!

Isaac-don’t think spota meant he actually hated rafa. Is hard to hate someone you haven’t met. Watching his style of play and decision making is so annoying at times when you see the talent at his disposal still today isn’t one of those days today we can be happy and celebrate! Still a long way to go but we are definitely moving in the right direction with the fight and team spirit if not the quality. Massive games all february definitely a lot more confident after today

Evening Donovan and welcome back sam…Isaac-remember telling you for months i didn’t give a fuck about your opinion of a true fan seeing as though that USED to be someone who followed rafa blindly, hurling insults at anyone who questioned him. Only recently you changed your mind and now a good fan is? Someone who is allowed to say enough is enough then move seamlessly back after a couple of good results? you have to be the best fan ever isaac! Not every fan changes their opinion game to game. Some of us as well don’t see goalless draws against shit teams with no chances created as a good thing for a big club. Today is a different story Merseyside derby and with a sending off the result was all that mattered. we still didn’t create one chance from open play and didn’t set out to outplay our lesser opponent so no we haven’t turned a corner yet. Never known a team to go through whole games without creating one chance and the manager and some fans still can’t see an underlying problem.

Good call on the Babel offsides Retry, he was indeed not COS as the replay showed and might well have scored. I was just having a go… I actually think Babel is more useful than N’gog, even though neither are of much use
Can’t wait for mid-week! Thinking (hoping) Rafa will play Aquilani in place of Lucas. He probably looked at the two matches and decided he needed to split time between the two: OK, one ugly game, one pretty-boy game — easy choice. So assuming Rafa stays generally defensive with the formation, I’m hoping he goes with:
—————–Reina——————-
-Carra—–Skrtl—-Agger—-Insua-
——–Masch———-Aqua———-
–Kuyt——–Gerrard——Maxi—–
—————–Babel——————-
Keeping poacher comments in mind it’s probably favorable to move Kuyt to striker take Babel off for Riera, and move Maxi to right wing. I prefer that route, but even in the way Rafa is bound to set up it still has similar potential with Kuyt moving forward and Gerrard filling wide right the way they did at the end of the Bolton game:
—————–Reina——————-
-Carra—–Skrtl—-Agger—-Insua-
————Masch——————–
-Gerrard———-Aqua——Maxi—
————–Kuyt—Babel————-

dr barnard -
sorry mate been logged off for a while not hiding, when i said about the stuborn man i was refering to rafa yes, i was refering to the ridgidness of his 4-2-3-1 formation, zonal marking, late subs the fact that when we’re a goal down his idea of a positive change is to throw on another defensive player when there is more attacking options on the bench his first thought is not conceeding another, and if were a goal in front we seem to shut off and not really push for a second, the way even when we have a near full strength squad players are played out of position and not always to there strengths the list goes on the way he can’t admit he got something wrong its always the ref the linesman the way the wind was blowing but never him there is always something to be going on about, the lack of funds yet when he’s told he can spend what he gets from sales he doesn’t take advantage, the fact our biggest issue in both the last windows was needing a striker and he’s not signed one, the fact he’s living off past glories when realistically our league position has slightly improved but we’re still nearly men at best. his inability to motivate and get the best out of a lot of players, the way some players are shown blind faith even when in poor form yet players like dossena, babel are not given the same oppertunities,
i’m not saying i want us to play like arsenal i’m saying i want us to play a more attacking formation 4-1-4-1 with gerrard and aquilani or yossi playing as attacking mids gerrard and aquilani are both capable of tracking back and helping out masch and offering a lot more in attack yet one is always sacrificed for lucas who is no better defensive than either gerrard or aquilani but offers far less offensively than all three players mentioned.
i know we have been grinding out a few results and today was a good result but thats down to the players availible showing a bit of grit which i commend its nothing to do with rafa changing games tactically to alter the outcome its down to the lads on the pitch.
i will always support the squad i’ve said before i think our squad is generaly good and more than capable of winning the league, but i can’t support a man with so many faults and yet the only positive is he won the CL and FAcup 5 seasons ago sorry mate thats just how it is

Just stating my view.
I know that retryboy has said sorry for the whole Irish twat thing but i still find it unacceptable that he has said somthing which i find offensive as someones opinion on sport should not be overlooked by their nationality let that be Northern Irish, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh or any other nationality.
I know for a fact that if it had been rane myself or any other ‘irish’ supporter calling retryboy an English twat (Presuming that he is English) the amount of offence it would have caused him and so many other people as it is ok to call the Irish thick but when it comes to the English you are not allowed to say anything. Dont get me wrong i have nothing against the english and i believe that 90% of the people that leave comments on this site are fair people who dont care about what country you are from but it just annoys me that someone will slag someone off because of their nationality.
And if you do get a chance to read this retryboy please have a little bit of common sense and not reply to this all guns blazing like a typical retryboy reply just because you dont agree with my point of view try to act like an adult and reply in a proper manner (is that too much to ask????)
Finally i would just like to point out what a good result the lads put out today and hope to see the same grit and determination against arsenal

I did enjoy the win, ref had a barry crocker, Everton had no idea how to break us down, Kuyt does it again!
These are the positives.
My problem with Benitez comes from his brand of football, general negativity and absolute refusal to play Stevie in CM.

Brilliant game
The determination and passion was amazing
we could have won it even with 9 men out there lol
i think Gerrard really rallied the team on, he really carried the team and controlled the whole team properly throughout the match
It was important becoz of the foul tempo the match was building up, its really easy to lose control in situations this emotional, but goes to show why he is our captain like countless times i think he showed it again. No doubt about it.
And Kuyt is a brilliant poacher he is always around that area where he is needed. I think playing him alongside Torres when he gets fit could do wonders.
Everything was absolutely brilliant to watch. The attitude was spot on.
We looked like champions today, true giants on the field.
Spurs draw makes our fourth position solid.
It was a perfect day for us. Spot on.

we dont need to be overly defensive

On the Arsenal game, I hope we actually do play Masch & Lucas in the centre. We need to dominate the midfield to control more of the possession, and we’re more likely to do that with those two there than Masch and Aquilani (who does tend to pull out of tackles). I think we’re more likely to nick a goal with Gerard in an advanced position and Kuyt up front, so I wouldnt change too much. Perhaps start Riera on the left instead.
Thought the tactics with Everton were spot on, and we looked like the Liverpool of last season – organised, compact, difficult to break down and dangerous on the break and at set pieces. Thought Babel – again – was a bit of a headless chicken up front when he was brought on. His judgement seems askew quite a lot of the time, and he doesnt hold the ball up as well as N’Gog. Babel doesn’t let the ball go at the right time for me. He seems better as an impact player who could be brought on off the bench to chase down the longer ball when defenders are tired. It’s no surprise that he scores a lot coming on in the last 20 minutes. When he starts, too many moves break down. He may improve this aspect of his game, but he needs to learn soon: 23 is not so young when you look at the football brains of the youngsters at Arsenal.

Was a good 3 points there!
Didnt agree with the Kyrgiakos sending off, especially considering he won the damn ball, and Pienaar about 5 mins earlier did a leg breaker on Mascherano which was higher, later, and DIDNT win the ball…yet he got a yellow. The second Yellow and evident red card for Pienaar in the second half was basically the red admitting he made a mistake.
Big case for Video ref isn’t it!
Anyway….I dont think Babel was really up for it when he came on for Ngog…he wouldn’t chase and seemed reluctant to even sprint. Maxi had a few good touches and is showing his class a bit however I’d of preferred to see Riera start, and then sub him after 50 min or so if he was tired!
I can see why Benitez didn’t play Aquilani…hes still a bit lightweight and the game was pretty physical to say the least.

Four out for six games and who where they against?
Sat 26th Dec FT Liverpool 2 – 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Tue. 29 Dec FT Aston Villa 0 – 1 Liverpool
Sat. 16 Jan FT Stoke City 1 – 1 Liverpool
Wed. 20 Jan FT Liverpool 2 – 0 Tottenham Hotspur
Tue. 26 Jan FT Wolves 0 – 0 Liverpool
Sat. 30 Jan FT Liverpool 2 – 0 Bolton Wanderers
Sat. 6 Feb FT Liverpool 1 – 0 Everton
Wolves a two nil win but by no means a convincing one
The Villa game a good but luck win, a bit of a smash and brag; could have quite easily lose that
The Stoke game, we real dominated that one didn’t we, played them off the park
Tottenham, where not up for it, but we still struggled
Wolves… Yet another great display, created umpteen chances, played them off the park. NOT
Bolton the only real convincing display of all the six game
Everton… They played ok without really threatening our goal, had they been up for it, it could have very well been a different matter
In truth we have with the exception of the Bolton game scarped by teams which Man, Arsenal and Chelsea has dispatched with ease
I stand by what I wrote above

Aquaman - February 7th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
Ok. Waaaaaaaay too many comments for me to read through for the moment, so I will just be doing my game review for now. I’ll get into the discussion in a moment.
So, we were down by a man and still comprehensively beat our local rivals. Pretty good work if you ask me. Also the performance was gritty and determined as I would expect from a derby. This time I have no comments questioning the desire of the team. It was perfectly clear that every redman on the pitch wanted this victory and was willing to bleed for it.
I’ll go though this player by player as that seems easiest.
Reina: Did a great job of modelling that yellow keeper kit. Gotta love it. Was interrupted once or twice by having to make a save, but still kept his head and performed admirably. Well done.
Carra: Derby day and Carra was up and ready for it. Typical Carra performance except that it was cranked up to 13. Great showing from the vice captain at both right back and center back.
Kyrgiakos: Well the tackle was a shocker. No questions there. Knew he was off as soon as it happened. Should Felliaini also have got a red? Hmm, maybe. Other than that rather glaring red blip he put in a great performance by winning anything that was in the air anywhere near him. The defense also seems mre composed with him on the field.
Agger: Good game, quieter than his two defensive partners but just as committed. Well played.
Insua: I’m liking him more and more. Was caught out by Donavan’s pace and trickery once or twice, but put in a very solid defensive performance otherwise. On the attack he was brilliant. Still our best crosser on the field.
Kuyt: Played with all the heart and courage of last season. Great performance in a game where skill had little space to show itself and raw desire won in the end. Still looks better up front than out wide, but was a good choice for the game. Also a great gritty goal. My man of the match.
Masch: Wow. Nothing more can be said. The Liverpool derby was made for this man. The commitment he showed to put his foot into Pienaar’s monstrous tackle (should have been a red, definitely) was really impressive. Even when he was moved to right back he still showed just what a great player he is. His crossing is crap though
. My other man of the match.
Lucas: Seems to becoming more forward minded at last. Put in some brilliant balls every now and then to the strikers and Gerrard. Good play.
Maxi: Seemed completely out of his depth. We’ve already seem that he’s struggling with the prem’s pace a bit, so how he could be expected to keep up with the most vicious match in the prem calendar, I don’t know. I wouldn’t have started him if I were Rafa, but he did reasonably well considering.
Gerrard: Great performance. Wonderful to see Stevie back to his heroic best.
N’Gog: Hmm. Had a couple of chances but squandered them for one reason or the other. All of them could be excused for one reason or the other, but a good striker would find a way to take at least one of them. Not surprised to see him subbed.
Subs -
Babel: Hmm. Not sure what to say. Didn’t really get any service and was wrongfully called offside for his one good move. Looked lively, but not brave. Can;t remember when last Babel really challenged for a header, but that may just be my prejudice talking.
Aurelio: He came on? Really? I didn’t see him…
Skrtel: Truly epic performance. Got to be the best bit of pay I have ever seen. Who would have thought that he would make such an impact coming off the bench. Ok, I’ll stop now.
Tactics: Starting lineup had only one real surprise for me: Maxi on for Riera. Riera had been playing really well in his last few games and Maxi is still learning the ropes. Throwing him into a derby seems risky to me. Especially with the number of legs that could have been broken.
Subs didn’t surprise me at all really. Thought that Babel may go on the right with Kuyt up front, but no harm done and Babel got another chance. Nice to see Kuyt given a chance to soak up the applause for his great game and, as I said earlier, magnificent performance from Skrtel coming off the bench.
Ref: Both brilliant and terrible in the same game. Pienaar should have had three yellow cards and a straight red by the end of the game. Felliaini should have got at least a yellow for jumping of Kyrgiakos. At the same time, this is not an easy game and the ref wasn’t pushed into making decisions. He was conned a couple of times but he didn’t let the game affect his rulings.

To The Irish contingent….. In all fairness I believe Retryboy did not make that to comment to RaNe with any racial malice intended…I understand why he made it, but in no way condone it ….
It is hard to come on this site, Make what you believe are fair and valid comments about a club you love, only to be abused, insulted at every turn. You start to get really defensive and develop a hare trigger to those that you perceive as attacking you…..
In the past month plus both Retryboy and I have been subjected to Racial taunts, abuse and insults, for no other reason than we have an opinion on how LFC should be run….. And it is often by the same Idiot, but it doesn’t make it any easier to take hearing it day in day out….. Retryboy has his very own “Cyber Stalker” who never posts any comments about Football, whose soul purpose in life is to Insult, abuse and tries to turn everyone on this site against Retryboy …….
Yes it is easy to say ignore him/them but unless you have a particular mind set it is impossible to do so…. Even though I try not to do so I myself have reacted so in the pass……
Please don’t let yourselves be manipulated by one anonymous multi posting ass hole
Retryboy has sad sorry, and you have all let him know that you did not appreciate his comment, now please be the men I hope you are and move on……

dr.Barnard - February 7th, 2010 at 4:43 pm
Hello there Baggins09 thanks for your detailed post. Here are my comments on it.
1. Rafa must believe that he plays the best formation for the long and arduous season in the Premiership, which is also best suited to the players he has.
2. Zonal marking? During this unbeaten run, we have conceded just one goal against Stoke, we kept other teams from score sheet, while scoring ourselves (Wolves being an exception). You may not like it, but it is working now, as it did in the previous seasons. It is all down to personnel, now that Kyrgiakos wins so many headers and Carra spending a lot of time on the right side, Agger, being a white man who can jump, I would go with it. However, Sotirios will sit out 3 games, I am a bit nervous, I admit.
3. You must have forgotten all the late goals we allowed against Fiorentina, Lyon and in the league that cost us dearly. Rafa decided that the best way to cope was to steady the defence and try to grind out the win by one goal if necessary. Add to it Torres absence, Messi, Silva, Villa still daftly refusing to join us, it may not be a bad choice.
4. When you can’t get or afford to bring your first players, have a most horrific string of injuries, you will sometimes play people out of position. Certain players like Kuyt do admirable job at it, work hard and never complain. Others like Babel can’t perform at any spot consistently. Maybe now, with El Zhar returning, Kuyt will play upfront more often.
5. You want to talk about a coach complaining, why you don’t talk about Ferguson incessant whining. Rafa declined to say anything about the beach ball, has refused (on most occasions) to talk about refs errors. I am sure you have noticed the “gods of football” have not supported us by sending the best refs to adjudicate our games.
6. “When he’s told he can spend what he gets from sales he doesn’t take advantage….” Name one great player Rafa refused to buy in the two last trading periods with money available and please don’t quote “rags” as evidence.
7. “His inability to motivate and get the best out of a lot of players” You mean like yesterday, oh also the games against Stoke, Bolton, Spurs? I suggest, you should rethink your point. To it I add, strangely enough his former players, including Hyppia, Alonso come out in his support during this tough time. If they believe in him, maybe you should give him a benefit of a doubt.
8. You may think Babel, Dossena, Deggen could have been our saviours this season, I disagree.
9. “It’s nothing to do with rafa changing games tactically to alter the outcome its down to the lads on the pitch.” Last season the Guardian published a stat, showing Rafa’s highest success rate when making substitutions(resulting in goals).
This is an echo of the old argument, we won Champions Cup in Istanbul due to the individual brilliance of Stevie G. and the victory had nothing to do with the manager. In the same fashion you can argue that Dunkirk and other catastrophes were caused by poor soldier’s performance, but the credit for the final victory goes solely to certain Winston C.
I remember that Rafa inserted Hamman for Kewell in Istanbul very early and it worked, not a mark of super cautious and inept manager.
10. How quickly we forget. Last season Rafa went “van banque” and started playing in a super-attacking mode”. It almost worked, if we didn’t leaked untimely goals against Arsenal and Chelsea.

dr.Barnard always like reading your posts you put your point across with such Grace and i agree.
Aquaman ditto apart from…….
I was at the game yesterday so not had chance to watch the game back on telly
Carra set the tone from the off with the challenge on pinar (i dont think him and gerrad like him)
With regards to Maxi he was ok he didnt have a bad game but he didnt have a good game and nobody made him look silly. for me he was solid.
The sending off from my position on the Kop looked like Fellani stamped on he greek, it was quite funny that when fellani was on the sidelines it looked like he was coming back on Rafa caught him by accident and he went down.
Mash at right back was awesome
Kuyt had a great game
Lucas the same what balls this lad has, going to be a great squad player for livepool
The greek had a good game its a good job he took fellani out the game because he was a right handful in midfield.
Carra was forever bollocking Insua thats the trouble with insua he got caught a few times with pace and positioning.
Ngog ok he is young but he struggled no for me. If Torres had been playing he would have given the bue shite a torrid time
Stevie he loved being back in his position got to say that im sure going forward when all are fit Rafa will alternate with him and aqualani behind Torres.
Babel had about 35 minutes to impress woeful in that position Stevie was forever bollocking him,For me he nearly has it all but he is lazy lazy lazy and doesnt listen to instructions cant play upfrOnt on his own not even for 35 mins its a shame. Good players like mash, jamie stevie adapt.
Finally, a funny moment when carra hoof the ball out of play and the Kop made there frustrations known, he turned round and stuck two fingers up and said fuck off, the kop just laughed back, what a great moment and what a great day
Wel done LFC you showed your true battling qualities to he footballing world. If you want to play footbll we can play football if you want a fight then we will have some of that as well.
Lets hope we get a posiive result in the next two games so we can kick on.

Aldo, brilliant about Carra. Funny how things like that go unreported in the rags. But, if he had given the bitters supporters a two fingered salute, the rags would be calling for him to be banned! Brilliant job by the Kop yesterday, though I do fucking hate it when twat gaffers don’t let us attack our favored end in the 2nd half, fair play to them and all, but still. You’re right about Babel too, he’s just absolute crap. I had hoped Rafa had his fill after the twattering episode, but apparently not. YNWA

I would be hoping for stability at the helm of the club with a good financial footing that will take us forward with funds to spend on world class players.
Whilst its known Donanvan that you dont like Rafa and want him out, it might be wise to make your case towards the end of the season. Lets just get be everyone till then because it is crucial that we finish in the top four. As for jose he may be the answer he may be not. What are you saying? Are you implying that I’m American? AN INSULT!! Still, good attempt to be funny. Wish that you’d register though…
Aldo:
I agree. Didn’t say that Maxi was bad, just that he hasn’t adapted to the prem yet so playing him in a derby seems risky. Saw glimpses of real quality though. Hope he comes right.
FAZAKERLEY:
You’re going to take this the wrong way, but I don’t care. Grow up! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and name calling does nothing to refute that. If anything you are the one who is looking the bigger idiot with your antics. Many of us on this site are foreign fans. Why? Because this is the only way that we can communicate with other fans both in Liverpool and around the world. We’re not lesser fans just because we don’t go to games. If we could, we would, but we can’t, so we don’t.
Lastly COS:
Why do you remove the highlights packages after a day or two? It really makes continuing a discussion difficult. If it’s a copywriting issue, then can;t you remove the highlights and let us continue the talk?

Fair point. With them in the mix you’d have a much more formidable lineup. However I’d say your problem is more in the bowling department than batting. Singh has lost his way a bit, which leaves Kahn as your only true world class bowler. It’s going to be an epic series though.

it has off late become a trend in india first match has belter of a wicket a batting paradise and the last match of the series has a turning wicket.valid point about harbhajan singh has lost his touch
when kumble retiered he left a void in the spin department very hard to replace the legend

Nice to see some South African Fans on this site.it has been a long time since i posted anything. That is because of some anonymous childish comments.More to the point.I wouldnt say we have turned the corner yet but i think it is a step in the right direction.I still cannot point out what the problem was as we only Lost Alonso. Now he was a great player with awsome vision and good passing ability but not irreplaceble.Maybe Rafas tactics is questionable at times but lets be fair he always gets it right when it matters the most.Having said that i would also like add that using Macherano and Lucas together is not a good idea.Need a decent playmaker.Aqualani good in Italy but i think the pace is too fast for him he tends to need more time on the ball.Maxi a good signing but needs a couple of games though to find his feet.
I would also like to say to the pretenders like Spurs.Villa and Man City the league is now taking shape and usual Suspects fills the top 4.So anybody that was in Doubt of LFC finishing in the top four tend to forget we always play better and collect more points in the second half of the season.I know we not in ECL and probably out of the title race and no Fa cup either.Lets look on the bright side we are playing much better football. So keep your heads up high and walk with hope in your hearts as you never walk alone.
Oh i almost forgot you dont need to be from Liverpool to support Liverpool.Does anybody know why a certain part of Anfield is called the KOP?
leave it as that.

retryboy deserves all what he gets.
he has a go at rafa but wants him to be replaced by martin oneil or mancini (when it was possible). yet martin oneil and his villa side play the most boring football ive ever seen. they are not a long ball team like wenger said but they have only one way of playing. thats counter attacking football and try to get corners or free kicks.yet retryboy has a go at rafa for being negative but villa have only scored 31 goals from 24 games!! and he wanted mancini brought in at the mid way point in our most important season in years(go to get 4th). ok mancini has done ok but he is still learning about the premiership and that is why city have lost away to everton and hull recently. putting mancini in charge of a team that HAS to get into the top 4 in the middle of a season would have been a disaster. so if you are going to make your mind up about a manager you should at least do it at the end of a season.

Fazakerley-don’t know about Donovan but i’m shaking in my size 12’s tell you what when circumstances allow it and i can get to Anfield i will be extra specially careful to avoid any short man syndrome having mother fuckers like yourself mind you though you aren’t representative of any liverpool fans, football fans or even human beings we all evolved a long time ago and as i told you before only wool round here is on your velcro gloves!! Anon 8.22-if we had acted much sooner then this would have been our best season not a battle for fourth but a title challenge, any decent manager would have taken this squad and had us ripping teams apart all season. Villa’s squad massively over performs because of O’Neill ours under performs because of rafa. City nabbed Mancini because they were worried we were going to snap him up we should have done. You say villa play the most negative football? Lmao do you watch our games? It looked to everyone like rafa had lost the dressing room…with the spirit in the last few games maybe he hasn’t and if he is looking like he will fulfill his promise of top four football he should stay till the end of the season. Forgive me if i don’t have any faith in rafa to consistently get things right but he never has in the past. If you seriously think the race is remotely won you are kidding yourself as chosen one says after february we will know more. Great start to our massive 3 game need to carry it on though and rafa has to keep making the right decisions, which for 90% of the season he hasn’t. Donovan-thanks mate shouldn’t have really given them that bone they could jump all over know how some people love choosing to be a victim, whilst really being the aggressor. Again its easy to see whose comments were about football and who really cares about the club. If the first thing on peoples minds when Lfc win is have a pop at other Lfc fans who are celebrating then they aren’t real fans at all anyway. Love the way as well everyone blames money and the squad not being good enough it is now though

London Industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Subroto Roy are reportedly in the race for a 51 per cent stake in Liverpool football club bidding to pay off its 237 million pounds debt.
Liverpool is presently owned by American duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks, who acquired the club in February 2007.
One of the most successful clubs in the history of English football, Liverpool emerged as a takeover target for Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries and the seventh-richest man in the world, as pressure mounted on Hicks and Gillett to cut a deal to sell the club, The Times reported on Tuesday.
When contacted in Delhi, a Reliance spokesman denied the reports. “We are not bidding for Liverpool,” he said. There was no immediate word on the issue from the Sahara Group owned by Roy.
Both Ambani and Roy have reportedly each tendered similar bids to pay off Liverpool’s 237 million pounds debt in return for a 51 per cent stake in the club.
Liverpool chief executive Christian Purslow also denied any knowledge of bids by Ambani and Roy, but ‘The Times’ reported that approaches began as early as November and that some preliminary talks had taken place.
Reported disagreements between Gillett and Hicks, and the lack of the fans’ support, have led to rumours that that international buyers such as the Dubai International Capital would bid for the club

Retryboy – February 9th, 2010 at 4:27 am…… No problem mate….. Yes some here will use any thing to try and attack you with… those of us who know you; know what you’re truly about, and that is wanting the best for LFC.
We do have a squad that on its day is a match for anyone, but there are a few areas we need to address, and the squad needs a manager that will bring out the best in the players and use them in the right areas……
Someone here said that even if Rafa gets 4th spot and we keep him, that next season it will be the same thing again. And you know what?…. I would have too agree……
Yes under Rafa we won the Champions League, and when to the finals the following year, a competition that he cares for above all else, and yes we came runners up in the league, hell we even won the FA Cup under him. But two things……
Since then, (Winning the FA Cup) domestically we have had some very poor runs in all cup competitions….
I liken Rafa to Babel. He shows ability but never fulfils potential. Yet people will advocate getting rid of Ryan Babel without a second thought, yet not Rafa…..
I won’t be around to chat much in May as we are off to Jam down (Jamaica) for three weeks 8th May – 29th may but at least I’m back for the World Cup ?
NO…. I didn’t throw that in there to make you jealous…LOL
Just stating it now in case I forget to let you know before we leave….
BTW mentioned in a reply to Fazakerley that “News of the World Reports that José Mourinho is eyeing a return to the premier league so could buy his way out of his contract for £5.5m…… Could be on his way to Liverpool? Hope so”…….
Two things (a) Did I say that I read the NOFW or any other paper for that matter?
(b) If I did does it matter? As he said I don’t even come from Liverpool…..
But he missed the point….. Could we be seeing Jose Mourinho at Anfield come the summer?

kutex – February 9th, 2010 at 8:06 am….. It is not a matter of whether City have done better than us so far
City has a fairly new squad of players that have been put together under Hughes and Mancini If you have watched them play you can see that they are very much still a work in progress
There fact that they are a 3 points off 4th place with two games in hand over us shows how far they have come and by the end of the season they will be so much better than they are now…..
Should they take 4th spot they will be able to offer prospective players Champions League Football along with top wages, and have the buying power to out bid anyone and could become a real force in world football….

The fact that we suffered lack of form this season does not mean things won’t get better. You seem to suggest citeh will get better, and the other way about us. Have the same faith in us, we will get better. Rafa is human, he can learn, unlearn, make mistakes, correct them but that doesn’t entirely suggest that the picture u and retry paint about him is correct.

kutex – February 9th, 2010 at 1:49 pm …. Not saying for one second that we can not play better or that our form will not improve, but just like us city have had there share of injuries, and remember besides being a team that have only been put together recently (Most Of them) they have also lose players to the African Cup of Nations so have had less time to gel…..
The points about Rafa are something else entirely so let us leave him out at the moment, although some of the things Rafa is doing does not help
City will only get better as a team, and what I am say regarding this season that is were the biggest challenge will come, should come from for 4th spot
And by the way I am not into all this” Think positive and have faith stuff” just like to look at the numbers and be realistic about things, Definitely am not into this “Let’s not talk about what wrong with the club ,lets talk about what right with the club”….. I believe that the “right” speaks of itself you need to address the “wrong” for only then can you change them and make them “rights”

Donovan Ried, I remember you saying a while ago that your partner suffers from depression. No wonder. I think, that in spite of your occasional pleasantries extended to the fellow posters, you have an incredible ability to see the most negative aspects of everything in anything, including our club. Stop raining on other peoples parades. Why do not you seek help with you attitude adjustment, it will help you, your family and this forum.
I have friends with Jamaican origins, they are most often, happy, positive, seeing “silver lining” in everything people. Go get help mate! Bon voyage to Jamaica, bring back some sunshine with you.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
This is more the way I try and view things, that and knowing that to hope things will get better is often not enough… that sometimes you have too act on things……
“Why do not you seek help with you attitude adjustment, it will help you, your family and this forum.”…… Nah Don’t need one……. I like to get in there and make things better rather than just hoping they will be so…..
But I think you are the one in need of an attitude adjustment as you proven my point for me…. You could not resist using my partner’s condition to have a gig at me….sad little person

Khan, Sorry i meant the second thing i said was true th dealings between KRC Genk and Liverpoolfc.
LIVERPOOL have struck a co-operation deal with Belgian club, KRC Genk.
Following a series of meetings an agreement has been signed until 2014 that could have benefits for both clubs.
Genk representatives flew into the city for Thursday’s night’s reserve game at Prenton Park where technical director Herman Vermeulen and club scout Roland Janssen ran the rule over the Reds’ 3-3 draw with Manchester City.
The co-operation deal will work on three levels with Liverpool and Genk sharing information from their scouting databases.
While Genk are interested in taking some of Liverpool’s fringe players on loan, the main attraction for the Anfield club is the opportunity to bring in African and South American players to England via Belgium.
As Belgium is not subject to the same restrictions found in UK employment law, Genk will be able to act on Liverpool’s behalf to sign non-EU players who could later join the Reds once they qualify for European citizenship or meet the 75% quota of international games to receive a work permit.
Liverpool have faced problems retaining non-EU players in recent years, most notably Argentine winger Sebastian Leto who was loaned to Greek club Olympiakos and eventually sold to Panathinaikos after his Italian passport was revoked.
EU regulations also delayed Chilean Mark Gonzalez’s arrival from Albacete four years ago.

Kutex-don’t tell me what to do. I am giving valid points not whining. Yes Mancini has performed better than rafa in the 11 games he has had he has won 8/11 in our last 11 games rafa has won 5 and this is our best stage of the season. City have scored 22 in those 11 games we have scored 13 and Mancini has tried every city player to give them a chance to impress. There is a big problem in setting out your stall as rafa does not to lose and that is 1 goal will rarely win a game think we have been lucky that teams have been inept offensively against us too that won’t carry on we have to start creating more!! There is a real fundamental problem in Rafa’s setup and tactics. There is never enough creativity, pace or invention. thats why we will never hit the levels of consistency needed to win the league with rafa. I rate the squad as one of the best in the league better than united’s and arsenal’s. All this get behind the team and the manager i support the team no matter what and on match day i am cheering louder than anyone doesn’t mean i can’t give my opinion on the topics being discussed with other liverpool fans have always said would love to be proved wrong by rafa. Donovan-excellent posts big difference with Babel and rafa though…you aren’t allowed to judge rafa off 30 games Babel gets judged off 15 minutes and normally left midfield. Also how can a casually thrown in 3 weeks in jamaica not lead to extreme jealousy?! Sounds much deserved to me mate think the laid back serenity can’t fail to work wonders if i don’t talk to you before have a great holiday. Anon-5.10-are there no limits to the depths you will stoop to? Obviously your life is that terrible you get your only kicks by trying to hurt others what a sad lonely pussy you are. If you disagree with any points argue with them but that would require some level of knowledge and intelligence. As you have seen now your pathetic attempts to knock a good guy down were laughable because you cannot affect anyones life or opinion conduct yourself better and you may

Retryboy, you are failing to get my point, the point here is that you are obsessed by your desire to get the man axed and this is not happening right now or the likelihood that it would is not there at the moment. so think you should keep your valid points to yourself. And one more thing, to think rafa hates babel or doesn’t wish him well is not in order. babel was bought by rafa and so he is rafa’s responsibility. no coach will sign a 10mil+ player and wish him bad. if he doesn’t believe in him, he wld have sold him. babel isn’t just working hard enough period. babel should learn to take his chance when he has it. If you watch citeh y’day you will notice Johnson had his chance and i believe he too it.
