Gareth Bale is being followed by Juventus who want the Tottenham Hotspur left-back in the summer.
Tuttosport claims that Juventus are looking for an alternative to Fabio Grosso and Paolo De Ceglie for the left flank. Grosso has has been far from brilliant, whereas De Ceglie has often been used in midfield.
A search for left-sided players has pointed the club to Tottenham’s direction. Bale is seen as ideal given his age and potential for development and is first on the list.
If that move fails a number of other choices has been outlined. Real Madrid’s Royston Drenthe, Lazio ace Aleksandar Kolarov, and Brazilian Andre Santos of Fenerbahce are all names floating around in Turin.
Juve were keen on Drenthe last summer, but they missed out after Madrid decided to keep him. (Goal.com)
Now would be a bad time to move to Juventus. They are in free-fall and unless Gareth Bale wanted to attempt his long running effort start a winning Premier League fixture in Serie A I would strongly recommend that he steers clear. But seriously Gareth Bale has recently shown glimpses of the player we thought we had beaten everyone to a few years ago and should give BAE a real run for his money. No one can deny that the Welsh international has good touch and can on his day do a great job but what he has lacked until now was some measure of consistency which I guess only comes with a decent run in the team. Harry should definitely keep the youngster at White Hart Lane as he is still very raw but has shown real potential.
Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham are capable of taking third spot this season ahead of Arsenal. They last rose to third in the table after their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in November and, before this evening’s return fixture at White Hart Lane, their manager has claimed an Ars enal defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday would give hope to the chasing pack.
Arsenal are seven points clear of their north London rivals but, with Liverpool visiting the Emirates three days after the trip to Stamford Bridge, Redknapp is aware that gap could tighten in the next week. “Arsenal are favourites [for third place] but it is not impossible for anyone to catch them, there could be a five- or six-point turn around. We thought that Chelsea were running away with it, but now look at it – wide open again,” he said.
“It is going to be tight. If we would have beaten Birmingham last week when leading 1-0, then we are suddenly not so far away from Arsenal. Someone could get third spot. Manchester City could, we could, Liverpool could. Anyone is capable with a run. Arsenal are not 100% sure to be there if they get beaten by Chelsea and other teams pick up good results.” (Guardian)
Here, here, I heartily concur. I am fully expecting Arsenal to implode. Arsene has really fouled up by not bringing in another striking option and I can see them fall away if the going starts getting tough and hopefully we will be there to pounce. That being said fourth place would do for me!
Ledley King believes Younes Kaboul can become the linchpin of Tottenham’s defence.
Kaboul rejoined Spurs from Portsmouth last week and could make his second debut for the club in tomorrow’s match against Aston Villa.
The 24-year-old had a difficult first spell at Spurs lasting only a year before joining Pompey in 2008.
But King insists Kaboul is now a far better player.
He said: “I’ve spent time with him before and we spoke about him becoming a better player and concentrating.
“I’m sure that’s going to happen. All young players make mistakes, especially in defence. But it’s down to us as a team to nurture his talent because he has fantastic ability.
“I’ve seen him this season and he has done well. He can be one of the great defenders around if he works hard and improves.” (Evening Standard)
The Younes Kaboul who has returned to Tottenham is a different proposition to the one who was previously at White Hart Lane. That is not to say that the Frenchman did badly in his first spell at the club, in fact I actually rated him at the time, but he has matured and could hopefully grow into a thoroughly good player under Harry Redknapp, after all it was Harry himself who has helped get the most out of him at Fratton Park in the first place.
So that brings me to the crucial game today. Its a match we must simply not lose and hopefully we have enough about us to get past an Aston Villa side who have gotten through their mid season blip. I’ll see you all there!
